Yesterday you had the pleasure of meeting our newest team member, Morgan, and none too soon – because today, you get to meet the final participant in our Southern Gents series: her boyfriend, Kevin!

Name: Kevin Rollinson
What do you do for a job? Marketing specialist
Your Southern Weddings gal: Morgan!
How and when you became a Southern Weddings gent: We met at a soccer game during our sophomore year at NC State. After that, I came up with an excuse to hang out with her by asking for help on some assignment. We talked about the assignment for maybe ten seconds, then spent an hour getting to know each other. After some romantic dinners in the dining hall and a downtown date, we started officially dating!

What is your favorite SW memory? Definitely the V6 launch party. The food was amazing.
What is the craziest thing you’ve done in the name of SW? Nothing too crazy. Yet.
What contributions have you made to SW that people may not realize? I’d like to think that my contribution to SW is encouraging Morgan and serving as a sounding board for her ideas.
What is something you shouldn’t know about weddings, but do, thanks to SW? There is way more to “wedding invitations” than just the invitations.
Have you ever been recognized by a stranger because of SW? Not yet.

What percentage of your social media followers come from SW? No idea.
What is the best thing about being an SW gent? Knowing Morgan goes to a job she loves every day with great people!
What is your least favorite thing about being an SW gent? That there’s only one launch party per year.
If given the chance, would you become a Southern Weddings employee? Yes, but only if my title was “Director of Southern Food Sampling.”
Favorite Southern food? Biscuits!

Missed a gent? Catch up here!
Ari (Lara)
John (Emily)
Brandon (Marissa)
Taylor (Nicole)
Kyle (Kristin)
Dave (Lisa)

The first day of summer is right around the corner, and with the higher temperatures and more ridiculous humidity, things can get a little crazy around the Southern Weddings office – so crazy that we’re asking our gents to contribute to this here blog. That’s right: over the next few weeks, you’ll get to hear from all seven of the SW Gentlemen. They’ll be sharing everything you’ve ever wanted to know about the secret (or not so secret) life of a magazine editor’s husband – what it’s like to be on the other side of the sweet-tea-drinking, seersucker-wearing, instagram-taking public persona. We’ll be going in order of Southern Weddings longevity, so please join me in welcoming the original Southern Gent, Ari Isaacson!!

Family photo by Gina Zeidler

Name: Ari Isaacson
Your Southern Weddings gal: Lara Casey
Occupation: Interventional Radiologist
How and when you became a Southern Weddings Gent: October 2005– it was a balmy Pensacola fall and Lara was the hottest personal trainer in town. I was a navy guy with something to prove. I won Lara over with my cheesy one liners and my bulging biceps.

We are hitting the way-back button on this one – Ari was a groom model in one of SW’s very first photo shoots, back in 2008! We were going for the distressed look :) Photo by East Hill Photo.

What is your favorite SW memory? Out of all of the memories, my favorite was watching Lisa and Dave get engaged.
What is the craziest thing you’ve done in the name of SW? I wrote about twelve real wedding stories for the first issue.
What contributions have you made to SW that people may not realize? I often push heavy pallets on delivery day.

Another Ari photo shoot appearance – can you spot him? Photo by Rae Leytham.

What is something you shouldn’t know about weddings, but do, thanks to SW? Oasis foam, hot glue, and mermaid style dresses.
Have you ever been recognized by a stranger because of SW? Yes… A girl in the neighborhood stopped me while I was walking one day and said, “Are you Lara Casey’s husband?”
What percentage of your social media followers come from SW? Social media? What’s that?

What is the best thing about being a SW Gent? The cookies and cupcakes and chocolate tasting.
If given the chance, would you become a Southern Weddings employee? I already am.
Anything else you want to add? I put together all of the furniture for the SW office, including the famous monogrammed chairs.

There you have it, ladies – the behind-the-scenes perspective from the ringmaster Southern Gent! Check back next Tuesday for our next interviewee: the one and only John Thomas!!

“The cookies and cupcakes and chocolate tasting.”
I think that has to be one of the best response to the “what’s the best part of your job?” question.

We just wrapped up our second Southern Weddings Volume 7 editorial shoot on Tuesday, so we thought now might be a good time to check in and report on our first shoot, which took place at the end of April! So many people wonder how, exactly, the magazine comes together with such a small staff. The answer boils down to relationships – we are so lucky to work with such talented folks! This time around we had Landon Jacob on hand for photography, Kelly from Philosophy Flowers on blooms, and LULA Hair & Makeup making everyone look beautiful (just to name a few!). Though everything came together perfectly on the day-of, this shoot was not without its hiccups in the run-up – leading to this (overly dramatic?) instagram photo we shared just days before:

Consider it our best attempt at a Scarlett O’Hara impression. In the end, though, our worries went unfounded, as we were rewarded with an absolutely gorgeous day – probably the prettiest one we’ve ever had for a shoot.

We tried something a little different for the cake this time around – we purchased a simple two-layer beauty from Whole Foods, then added our own decor. It turned out better than we expected, and we’re excited to share this totally doable idea in the magazine! Jordan captured the final result (just out of the frame!) beautifully.

Possibly my favorite moment of the day, though? I returned home, tired after many hours on my feet, only to turn around from putting things away to see my cat gleefully licking our cake!! Her eyes were practically closed, she was so happy. Well, at least we know it was delicious :)

We’ve been sharing snippets of magazine prep with a new hashtag on social media, #MakingSouthernWeddings – we hope y’all will find it fun to follow along! In the meantime, you can pick up past print editions in our shop to tide you over until November!
