Tag: behind the scenes with our southern gents

Yesterday you had the pleasure of meeting our newest team member, Morgan, and none too soon – because today, you get to meet the final participant in our Southern Gents series: her boyfriend, Kevin!

Name: Kevin Rollinson
What do you do for a job? Marketing specialist
Your Southern Weddings gal: Morgan!
How and when you became a Southern Weddings gent: We met at a soccer game during our sophomore year at NC State. After that, I came up with an excuse to hang out with her by asking for help on some assignment. We talked about the assignment for maybe ten seconds, then spent an hour getting to know each other. After some romantic dinners in the dining hall and a downtown date, we started officially dating!

What is your favorite SW memory? Definitely the V6 launch party. The food was amazing.
What is the craziest thing you’ve done in the name of SW? Nothing too crazy. Yet.
What contributions have you made to SW that people may not realize? I’d like to think that my contribution to SW is encouraging Morgan and serving as a sounding board for her ideas.
What is something you shouldn’t know about weddings, but do, thanks to SW? There is way more to “wedding invitations” than just the invitations.
Have you ever been recognized by a stranger because of SW? Not yet.

What percentage of your social media followers come from SW? No idea.
What is the best thing about being an SW gent? Knowing Morgan goes to a job she loves every day with great people!
What is your least favorite thing about being an SW gent? That there’s only one launch party per year.
If given the chance, would you become a Southern Weddings employee? Yes, but only if my title was “Director of Southern Food Sampling.”
Favorite Southern food? Biscuits!

Missed a gent? Catch up here!

I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know this Southern Gent from California since Morgan introduced him to our family almost three years ago. He’s truly a gentleman and we’re so happy to know him!

When one of your first encounters with someone involves frantic email exchanges involving highly-secret public proposal plans, you know they’re not afraid to dive right in and become one of the team. Such is the case with Dave, Lisa’s fiance and one of our newer Southern Gents. He’s been gung-ho and encouraging about all things Southern Weddings since Day One, and we love him for it! Please join me in welcoming Mr. Dave Kirk to the blog this morning…

Ryan Ray

Name: David Kirk
What do you do for a job? Financial analyst
Your Southern Weddings gal: The lovely Miss Lisa Janel Olson
How and when you became a Southern Weddings gent: Y’all may have read Lisa’s version on the blog, so my shortened version is: we met studying abroad in Austria four years ago, tried not to fall in love, lost touch, reconnected early last year, (quickly) fell in love, (quickly) got engaged, and we are getting married in May!

What is your favorite SW memory? Aside from the obvious, asking Lisa to marry me while at an SW event, it was incredible hearing from Lisa on the phone the day she got her dream job. That was a really special moment and I could not have been more proud of her!
What is the craziest thing you’ve done in the name of SW? While this wasn’t in the name of SW, I proposed at the V6 Launch Party… I’d say that’s as crazy as it gets.
What contributions have you made to SW that people may not realize? I conveniently manage to show up to shoots/events just in the nick of time to move furniture around. I hope this experience pays off in married life. Also, I make the spreadsheets for all our wedding planning, so I’m hoping to contribute some excel templates to the blog at some point.

What is something you shouldn’t know about weddings, but do, thanks to SW? I can correctly pronounce Monique Lhuillier and can identify a Sperry tent within seconds.
Have you ever been recognized by a stranger because of SW? I am still waiting for that special moment.
What percentage of your social media followers come from SW? Less than half, but I’m hoping this post will make it grow.
What is the best thing about being an SW gent? Being able to be a part (by a small degree of separation) of such an incredible small business whose mission is so noble. There are few things in this world as important and sacred as faith, marriage, and family, and to have my fiancée work for an organization that holds these things in such high regard is inspiring.
What is your least favorite thing about being an SW gent? You never know when something is going to wind up on Instagram. See me car singing here.

If given the chance, would you become a Southern Weddings employee? Of course.
Favorite Southern food? I’m a Yankee by birth, so being recently introduced to Southern foods has been the best year of my life. My favorite is probably biscuits, closely followed by fried chicken. If you put them together, that’s another favorite.
Anything else you want to add? I’m relatively new to the exclusive SW Gents club, but I can say that the SW ladies are truly passionate about what they do and they are amazingly talented at how they do it. The result is a magazine whose mission permeates the pages, content that inspires so many, and weddings that would make even the bravest men tear up (myself included… Lisa and I are a perfect match).

Catch up with the other SW gents!

Ok, so the obvious question is, “Does Dave have a brother?” Or cloning technology? What a sweet, articulate, gracious guy. I don’t know Lisa but I’m just so happy for her after reading this post. He’s a keeper for sure!

Definitely a stand up guy, that Dave. Even though you are from the North, you’ve definitely got the charm of a Southern gentleman! Loved this post!

It’s obvious to anyone that knows them that Kristin adores her husband Kyle, so of course, we adore him by extension, too. That being said, like Brandon, most of the Southern Weddings gals haven’t had too many chances to get to know Kyle in person, seeing as the Winchesters live in Virginia. Despite that, he had me cackling and quoting lines to Lisa as I read through his interview, which is exactly what I was hoping for with this series. I hope y’all enjoy meeting Kyle just as much as I did!

Name: Kyle Preston Winchester (Have to roll out the full name in the South, right?)
What do you do for a job? Collegiate Sports Marketing Sponsorship Executive
Your Southern Weddings gal: The beautiful Kristin Neal Winchester
How and when you became a Southern Weddings gent: I noticed KNW on the first day of class during our senior year at UNC when she dropped her pen and proceeded to talk to it. Things blossomed over the next few months as we realized how many friends we had in common. We started dating in October and quickly got married 7.5 years later.

Hot Dog! Photo Booth

What is your favorite SW memory? The V6 Launch party is the only event I’ve had the pleasure of attending and it was a blast. The food was delicious and the people were so much fun. However, my favorite “memory” is more pluralized–since KNW works remotely, I have the pleasure of listening in on an occasional Southern Weddings staff video conference. To hear the energy and passion they all bring to their careers is inspiring. Plus, since it’s a video chat, I get to wave at everyone.
What is the craziest thing you’ve done in the name of SW? Editing ads, finding cows to milk, and yes, the bow ties. But, I have a feeling that the craziest thing is yet to come. These gals are dreamers and visionaries, so there’s little doubt that they’ll collectively envision something crazy and Southern and fun for me (or us) to do.
What contributions have you made to SW that people may not realize? Kristin is a sound-boarder, so there are a lot of marketing and sales ideas bounced around during our lunchtime/dinnertime/free time/all the time conversations. When there are sports involved, I am typically consulted in some fashion, given my career and passion for so many of them.

What is something you shouldn’t know about weddings, but do, thanks to SW? Having been a part of Kristin’s life for so long, I’m bound to have learned a great deal about weddings (I mean, she’s had a wedding notebook since she was 10 years old, come on now, people). From trumpet gowns to princess-cut diamonds, from first look photos to latticework, it’s all covered. Of course, she’s learned all about the 4-4-2 Diamond formation and never misses the NBA Draft, so it all evens out.
Have you ever been recognized by a stranger because of SW? Not yet–perhaps that’s an advantage of living in a small college town.
What percentage of your social media followers come from SW? The venn diagram intersection of “wedding blog and magazine devotees” and “basketball/soccer/hip hop music” social media followers is very, very small. Therefore, I don’t think many of my followers can be attributed to SW. However, if any readers want to be the first, @kylepwinchester would be honored.

What is the best thing about being an SW gent? Getting to peel just a bit off of the inspiration tree from these ladies. There’s so much intentionality behind the organization’s mission and mantra that you can’t help but be encouraged by their ideas, vision, and vigor.
What is your least favorite thing about being an SW gent? This question is non-applicable.
If given the chance, would you become a Southern Weddings employee? Of course. Once SW expands into covering Southern sports and hip hop, I’m their guy.
Favorite Southern food? See entire Best Southern Foods bracket.
Anything else you want to add? Hi Mom!!

Missed a gent? Catch up with Ari, John, Brandon, and Taylor!

That Instagram photo is the BEST! K + K make a great team — I love that Kyle gets to participate in some of our team meetings through mini appearances and consulting :)

I am dying over all these answers. All straight from KPW. I only edited for factual errors (including the fact that we dated for 7.5 years NOT 6.5 years before getting married. Time flies when you’re having fun, I guess.). Also, LJO – that IG photo is the best, I had forgotten about it. I need to get that printed!!
