Happy Friday, belles! Since we just flipped the calendar page again (hello, May!) and Lisa and I have been hard at work with our team of stylists and vendors making Volume 9 magic happen, we thought it was time for a little #MakingSouthernWeddings update here on the blog! We have two editorial shoots under our belts (hooray!), two coming up this month, two in June, and one that is yet to be scheduled – but will likely end up being in June, too! We’ve actually already gotten the photos back from our first shoot, and let’s just say, there were some dancing lady and heart eye emoji texts involved amongst our team. We can’t wait for you to see!! But in the meantime, here’s what we can share…

Our first editorial was staged in sunny Florida. We had the help of two long-time Blue Ribbon Vendors, Ashton Events and Justin DeMutiis, and since I was out on maternity leave, Lisa also had Marissa by her side! (That’s her wearing one of our cute shoot aprons from Oatmeal Lace, above.) This shoot was bright and colorful, with just a hint of gold and citrus :)

Our second editorial took place at the Biltmore Ballrooms in Atlanta. Yeah, we couldn’t stop staring at that ceiling, either! We were thrilled to take on an indoors shoot – something a little different for us – and hope y’all will love having some ballroom inspiration in our next issue! Of course, peonies arranged by Blue Ribbon Vendor Jacin Fitzgerald, an epic tulle wedding gown, and photos by Sawyer Baird don’t hurt, either. I was back from maternity leave for this one, and it was extra fun to have my little girl and my Mom in tow for the day! But don’t get me started on Atlanta traffic… yeesh!

As always, follow along on Instagram and Snapchat for more Southern Weddings V9 action as it unfolds! You can find everything on our account, @SouthernWeddings, and the #SouthernWeddingsV9 and #MakingSouthernWeddings hashtags. And don’t forget: we will be reviewing real weddings for Volume 9 through August, so send them our way! We can’t WAIT to see your big days!! You can find our submission guidelines here.

P.S. Interested in being a Volume 9 sponsor? There’s still time, and we would love to have you! In fact, we’re running a special deal until May 9, so hop like a bunny and email Marissa!

We’re always so thankful when we can have behind the scenes photographers on hand at editorial shoots–so much goes into the making of the finished images, and it’s a lot of fun to share a peek into that with y’all! On top of that, it’s really sweet to have these records for our own memories, and since our Texas Sweethearts editorial shoot day was a favorite from this year for both Emily and me, we’re particularly glad that our Blue Ribbon Vendor and dear friend Jen Dillender was there to spend the day with us. Our vendor team and reader models were all amazing, and made this shoot such a joy to be a part of!

It is inevitable–there are always behind the scenes shots of us snapping sneak peeks for Instagram!

All hands were on deck setting up gorgeous vignettes and details around Star Hill Ranch! This property is unreal–the owners relocated historic homes from around Texas to create the most charming faux town square. We remembered it from this wedding we shared a few years ago, and knew it was our dream venue for this shoot!

Pink Avocado Catering pulled out all the stops for our Texan-inspired menu. We were determined to make upscale frito pies a “thing” at this shoot, and couldn’t have been happier with the way they turned out!

Shooting portraits is one of my favorite parts of any shoot day. It’s so much fun seeing the fashion we chose shine, especially if there’s a real couple modeling for us! I couldn’t stop laughing at the shot below of Emily wearing the veil–she couldn’t very well leave it on the ground and let it get dirty or wrinkled, after all! :)

Everyone from our photographer, to our beauty team, to our behind the scenes photographer poured their hearts into making this editorial magical–we’re tremendously grateful to work with people who share our hearts for marriage and the magic of the South.

For the finished photos from this editorial and all of the wonderful vendors involved, see V8 in print (now on news stands and online here) and this post!

Our shoot days for the magazine are long (usually 10+ hours!), and we pack in as much as we can to produce the maximum amount of goodness for y’all. Aside from beautiful images, these days often result in lots of ridiculous faces, more than a few characters met along the way, and always unexpected moments. We love taking y’all behind the scenes along the way via our #MakingSouthernWeddings hashtag on Instagram, but there are some details that we just can’t reveal until after the magazine debuts. That’s why we love the chance to have a behind-the-scenes photographer on set with us! We hope y’all love these peeks at how our “perfect” images come together!

Big hugs to Blue Ribbon Vendor Courtney Dox for snapping these photos!

We love prepping as much as possible onsite, including hair and makeup for our reader models, all of the flowers, and food!

It never fails – there is always at least one photo of Lisa or me crouching behind something to hold it in place as the photographer works her magic.

I don’t know if Jacin has ever had a stranger request than “flowering” a golf cart, but she pulled it off with aplomb! The gigantic letter balloon that she snagged from our venue to hold everything up was just the icing on the cake.

Lisa and I agreed that golf carts should be required at every shoot — they made it so much easier to tote things to and fro! And yes, you’re welcome for that beautiful shot of me eyeballing the table :)

Mid-course gown change? No problem! Lisa is our fashion expert on shoot days and a total pro at unconventional fitting locations.

And I am an expert at teaching people how to pass things. Add that one to my resume :)
