Happy Friday, belles! The Southern Weddings ladies recently had the chance to attend the Carolina Inn Bridal Showcase right here in our hometown of Chapel Hill (you can see a few photos here!). “Bridal fairs” often get a bad rap, but they’ve come so far in recent years, and there are now lots of great options for y’all! We’re so happy to introduce you to a really unique one today: Southern Wedding Experience: B… The Event.

Of course, with a name like that, you know they’re going to be up our alley! Though we’re not affiliated with them, we love the sound of what they do — it’s really quite different from anything we’ve ever heard of!

The Southern Wedding Experience is geared toward brides who are planning a destination wedding, or a wedding in a destination market. It brings together a select group of wedding professionals for a series of five-star weekends of pampering, planning, and information-sharing in the Southeast’s most charming, wedding-friendly destinations: Savannah, Asheville, Nashville, and Atlanta. The first event, in Savannah, is coming up soon — March 1-3!

After three days, the goal is for each bride to leave with a vision for her wedding, decisions on venue and vendors, and important info for planning the event, all while in a vacation-like atmosphere! For the Savannah weekend, you’ll visit top venues including the Tybee Island Wedding Chapel, the Mansion on Forsyth Park, and Savannah Station, and each location will be decked out with designs to inspire by the best local vendors. National experts Stacie Francombe, Shawn Rabideau, and Brooke Thomas will also be on hand to dish out wedding tips and advice. On top of all that wedding goodness, there will be gourmet meals, a styled fashion show, and chances to sit down with the best vendors in the Southeast!

Ready to go? Here’s the itinerary for the Savannah event, and here’s all of the ticket information.

Not in Savannah? The Southern Wedding Experience is coming to Asheville on August 2-4, Nashville November 15-17, and Atlanta February 28-March 2, 2014!

You can find out more about all of the events here. Happy planning, friends!

All photos by Parker J. Pfister. Southern Wedding Experience sponsors include Mansion on Forsyth Park, Biltmore Estate, Grove Park Inn, Tybee Island Wedding Chapel, Savannah Station, Grand Bohemian, Crest Center & Pavilion, Classic Event Rental, Aria, BBJ Linens, AFR, Shay Brown Events, Southern Wedding Library, Inspire Smart Success, and Bridal Style.

Ohh that sounds great! I hope they do one in Charleston. I wouldn’t exactly say our wedding is going to be a “destination” wedding since we live here, but it definitely is a popular destination for many people!

Southern Weddings Weekly Round-Up

by in Main on

There are quite a few lovely things we featured on the blog this week, but the most exciting by far was the reveal of our newest cover! Our fifth anniversary issue really is prettier than a little red wagon full of speckled pups!

We welcomed our Southern Bride of the Month, Lauren to the blog! She’s planning a wedding in Georgia to her beau, James.

We posted our last V5 Behind the Scenes bow tie giveaway this week! Make sure you enter here for the chance to win a bow tie from our prop closet.

With October well behind us, we thought it would be fun to do a little behind-the-scenes recap. Take a look at what the SW ladies were up to!

We are super pumped to celebrate the holidays with y’all! Join us for our fourth annual Ornament swap and our second annual Gingerbread Barn Building Competition! Details here.

We had to sneak in one last gorgeous shoot before we dive into V5 features! We love the rustic tones and deep colors of this fall inspiration shoot.

Real Weddings and true love

Leigh and Lander created a wedding that was fashionable and heartfelt. See it here.

Lauren + Jeremy’s wedding had the perfect dose of fun, celebratory details. See it here.

Great things ahead!

Now that we have a special copy of V5 in our hands, we are even more excited for our big V5 Launch Party! We are so grateful for everyone who wants to celebrate with us. Unfortunately, there are so many of you that we’ve sold out of space and can only accommodate those who are registered! We’re looking forward to seeing all of you belles and beaus who registered in your gold and glittery best on Thursday. Yahoo!

Huge hugs and congrats go out to everyone saying “I do” this weekend, including our Southern Bride Blogger, Amanda!

Have an amazing weekend, friends! What are y’all doing? I’ll be in Asheville helping my sister plan her wedding!

Our October was full of pretty leaves, Halloween hype and general fall fun. With the State Fair in town, it was also full of deliciously fried foods and carnival games. Take a look at what the Southern Weddings gals did last month!

1. Emily and John ventured to some waterfalls while taking a weekend trip to Asheville

2. Lara, Grace and Ari went to the McKee Farm corn maze!

3. I waited in line for a fried chicken biscuit from Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen — a Chapel Hill must!

4. Lara surprised Emily and I with some Krispy Kremes as we made our final edits on V5.

5. I ran the Color Me Rad 5K with my sister and Dad.

6. Emily, in the thick of the name change process, gathered up materials for the social security office.

7. I went to the State Fair and got to the top of the Ferris wheel just just as the fireworks show began.

8. Kristin celebrated the start of fall with some homemade chicken vegetable soup.

9. Emily, also in the mood to celebrate fall, whipped up some pumpkin chocolate chip muffins on wedding china! (She gladly shared the recipe with us here.)

10. Kristin celebrated her eighth first-date anniversary (photo from first date weekend, October 2004).

11. Marissa unpacked from Bridal Market and repacked to move! Yes, that is peanut butter in her suitcase.

12. Kristin spent a gorgeous Saturday morning at the State Fair tasting a pile of yummy (mostly fried) Southern treats: ham biscuit, fried pickles, fried snickers, roasted corn and more!

13. One of the one million gorgeous gowns Kristin saw during Bridal Market in NYC. This one is by Ines Di Santo.

14. Emily and I spent a couple of days proofing V5!

15. Marissa had dinner in NYC with Kristin, Kat Harris and former SW editor, Whitney. Once an SW girl, always an SW girl!

16. We carved a Southern pumpkin, y’all! This guy even has a dapper bow tie.

17. Lara went on a trip across the U.S. for Making Things Happen and flew over beach, canyons and snow.

18. Emily painted some golden pumpkins as her crafty project of the month.

Tell us: What did you do in October? What were the highlights of your month?
