Southern Weddings Weekly Round-Up

by in Main on

I’m totally prepared for Christmas, y’all. Dozens of cookies have been baked, presents have been wrapped and the Southern Weddings ladies have visited Santa. That’s right. We stood in line with mothers and children for the chance to get our photo taken with Mr. Claus. The result?

Perfection. In case anyone’s feeling generous, we also made our Christmas wish lists!

Marissa told us all about another Southern Tradition this week: Burying the bourbon. According to folklore, burying a bottle of bourbon at the wedding site will keep away rain on the wedding day!

Our trees are all decorated with the help of you guys! Big thanks to those who participated in our third annual Ornament Swap! Take a look at all the fun in this recap post!

To serve as both wedding inspiration and baking inspiration, this sweet V4 feature was adorable and delicious! Mini desserts are such a great way to individually serve guests and can be beautifully packaged!

We’ve finally come down from the sugar highs from our first Gingerbread Barn Building event, but we’re happy to be able to show you a recap of the festivities! The night was full of goodies and fun competition.

We’re still raising donations for our Heifer fund this year! Help us give to families in need by contributing. Every bit counts! Vendors, if you buy ANY ad with us this month, 5% will be contributed to our fund! See this post for details and an update!

This week’s featured Real Wedding Gallery is Katie + Nathan! Their garden wedding combined vintage details and sweet Southern charm.

Real Weddings make our hearts sing

Courtney + Chris’s city-meets-country wedding was the perfect combination of glam and rustic! Take a look here and here.

Molly + Ben’s Christmas wedding was sparkly and festive. Poinsettia decorations and a Christmas tree made getting in the holiday spirit effortless. See it here and here.

Announcements

After seeing so many adorable totes from our Southern Hospitality series, we couldn’t help but make one for our readers! Order five or more copies of V4 and you’ll get a free Southern Weddings tote until supplies run out.

Last week, we introduced you to our Blue Ribbon Vendors! This week, we’re thrilled to announce a very special addition to the Blue Ribbon Vendor Directory. Our videographer category is now LIVE! Check out our awesome vendors here.

Bridal designer, Sylvie Levine, is offering her fans the exclusive opportunity to win their DREAM ring design. One lucky winner will get the special chance to customize her engagement ring with Sylvie’s help, including a one-on-one Skype chat with her. Just “like” Sylvie Collection on Facebook to enter! Act soon, the deadline is January 5th, 2012.

Interested in the Courtyards & Cobblestones bridal show we told you about last week? Check out this fun video and read the details here.

Happy Holidays, friends! How are you celebrating this weekend? Tell us in the comments below!

Ho, ho, ho! It’s that time again! Time for the SW ladies’ annual Christmas photo with Santa, that is. Why yes, we do gather our whole office and arrive at the mall with festive attire in tow. Why yes, we do wait in line with mothers, fathers, and small children. Why yes, we do awkwardly jostle over who will (or will not) sit on Santa’s lap. And the result?

Brilliant. This year we were actually slightly legitimate, as we had Lara’s new baby Grace along for the ride! In case you’re not familiar with our smiling faces, that’s Editor in Chief Lara (with Grace), Director of Advertising Whitney, and Editorial Assistant Nicole in the back, with Assistant Art Director Sierra and Art Director Emily in the front. The only gal not pictured in Marissa, who joins in the SW fun remotely from Florida or other parts of the world where her baseball player husband’s travels take them.

Also, following tradition, we wanted to share our Christmas wish lists with you. In case, you know, anyone out there’s feeling generous :)

Whitney would like a beautiful leather bag to tote her laptop to and fro the Southern Weddings office, a Jonathan Adler mug to feed her coffee addiction, and a Kate Spade planner to stay organized in the new year.

Sierra would like the perfect pair of leather riding boots, the Carly earrings from Kendra Scott (since she couldn’t win our giveaway!), and a classic black crossbody bag.

Nicole would like a sparkly dress in which to celebrate New Year’s Eve, a new teacup so her old favorite can get a break once in awhile, and a new laptop! (“It’s time,” she says.)

Marissa would like a shiny gold dress, a glittery laptop case, and a logo cuff from Tory Burch. As the remote member of the office, she would also like to put in a request for a private jet :)

And I would like a set of these tortoiseshell glasses, the perfect pair of cowboy boots, and a Southwest gift card (we’ll be doing a LOT of flying next year!).

Tell us: What are you wishing for this Christmas?

P.S. Our 2010 visit to Santa!

A couple of weeks ago, some of our dear readers and friends helped us spread the Christmas spirit with our first ever Gingerbread Barn Building Competition! Aprons were tied, holiday music was playing, coffee was brewed and game faces were on. We were so glad that our dear friend Nancy Ray was on hand to help capture the fun on camera!

About 40 Southern Weddings readers joined us in the beautiful Hill Ballroom at the Carolina Inn to show off their gingerbread building chops. Among the supplies were dozens of piping bags full of yummy Sugarland royal icing, boxes full of peppermint from Hammond’s Candies, marshmallows, pretzels, M&Ms, Hershey’s kisses, holiday-shaped chocolate, red hots, candy canes, and sprinkles galore! (And of course, animal crackers! They’re barns, after all!)

The Carolina Inn was wonderful to us and provided coffee, tea, hot chocolate and cookies to keep sugar highs at bay.

After an hour and half of intense construction and decorating, it was time for official judging by the Southern Weddings ladies! We chose one winner and three runners-up in categories like “Most Barn-Like, “Most Enthusiastic” and “Best Structure.”

Our grand prize winners, Andrea and Kat won gift cards to Minted! Our three runners-up received a Southern Weddings tote bag full of V2, V3, and V4!

All in all, it was a wonderful night and had a blast getting to know everyone, seeing their beautiful gingerbread creations and sneaking candy. We were so happy Nancy Ray was there to document the night and that Lara, Ari and baby Grace stopped by!

Happy Holidays, y’all!

*Minted is a Southern Weddings sponsor.
