Monthly Archives: December 2011

Our Southern Hospitality series has featured so many cute tote designs that we just couldn’t resist creating a Southern Weddings tote especially for our readers! Aren’t they adorable?

The fabulously talented Joni from Chocolate Butterbean designed this Southern beauty for us, and that’s me modeling one on the right! (Thanks to my brother for the photo!) Belles, if you aren’t familiar yet with Joni’s work, you MUST drop what you’re doing and head to her site this instant. She whips up the most wonderful (and Southern!) custom invitation suites and wooden signs. Anyone who owns a copy of V4 has seen her handiwork in action — Joni made our Beau Bar sign!

Now for the good part: here’s how you can get your hands on one!

Starting today, with the purchase of five or more magazines, you will receive this limited edition “Sweet as a Peach” Southern Weddings tote bag FREE with your box of magazines! No telling how fast they’ll go, so this offer is only available while supplies last!

I am getting married in Savannah on April 12th this year. I would LOVE to order these for my bridesmaids. Are they available for sale?

I have a particularly delicious Southern Weddings V4 feature to share with you today! Melody of My Sweet & Saucy took our request to re-imagine classic Southern desserts and ran with it. Braedon Flynn captured the tiny treats beautifully. Shall we take a walk down the buffet line?

First we have tiny individual pound cakes with fresh raspberries.

Melody scooped layers of red velvet cake and frosting into mini mason jars, and cut out the most perfect, tiny Krispy Kremes lookalikes. (Yes, I’m drooling, too. It’s okay.)

Blueberry cobbler served in mini skillets — I die!

These mini pecan pies would be perfect at the end of the night, or as a take-home favor!

On the left we have mini key lime tarts for Florida celebrations, and on the right, adorably rustic hand pies.

Perhaps my favorite idea? Banana pudding shooters. Yum!

Be sure to pick up our latest print edition to see the rest of our mini dessert ideas! And tell me: Will you or did you serve any dessert besides cake at your wedding?

P.S. More Southern dessert goodness:
Hummingbird cake and peach pie
Strawberry shortcake cake
Mini key lime tarts

Gals, the Southern Weddings tree is decked in HIGH style this year. With over 80 participants in our third annual ornament swap, our tree is just full of red and green (and silver, and gold, and blue, and pink…) Southern Christmas goodness.

The ornament swap included participants from 20 states

Before we reveal some of our swappers’ handiwork, we wanted to share the surcie the SW office sent out. With more than 80 ornaments to craft and send, we wanted something simple and inexpensive to make, and light to ship. And Southern, of course! Sierra hit upon our winning idea with the suggestion of a fabric bow tie which Nicole helped turn into a reality. One afternoon of crafting by Emily, Nicole, Sierra, and Whitney, an assortment of fabrics and ribbons, a hot glue gun, and a plate of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies later, we had these pretties!

Yep, they’re a little homemade-looking, but we hope y’all enjoyed them!

Now, on to readers’ finds and creations, which were, on the whole, more impressive than ours. Here’s just a small sampling of the goodies we received over the last few weeks!

Lilly Pulitzer fabric, embroidery, custom monograms, gingham, seersucker, glitter, burlap… y’all pulled out all the stops!

Yeehaw! If that doesn’t get you in the Christmas spirit, I don’t know what will. Big thanks to all who participated — we had such a blast swapping with you gals! If you missed out this time, be sure to check back in November of next year, when we’ll be back with the fourth annual ornament swap!
