Just like Tuesday was all about our Paper, Cotton, and Flour feature, today is all about our fabulous Charleston polo shoot! Before we reveal the final images, photographer Leigh Webber is here to give you a behind-the-scenes peek at the making of a print feature on a hot and sticky August day!

How about the SUV corral? There’s a reason wedding vendors (and editors) drive big cars — we have a lot of stuff to haul around!

We had a much bigger crew than usual at this shoot, which meant lots of consultations amongst different groups. Which kind of translates to lots of standing around in photos, but I promise, we were working hard!

Meanwhile, Barry from Blossoms Events, our florist for the day, was hard at work pulling together gorgeous bouquets and centerpieces.

In another corner of the polo field, Emilie Dulles, Nicole, and a few other helpers were prepping the escort card display.

A selection of sparkling flatware and glassware was lined up and waiting. We typically bring more than we can use in order to have options!

When the table was finally ready to set, we had one highly unusual step: dirtying the polo balls. Yes, Caitlin, Calder’s intrepid assistant, actually spit on our polo balls then rolled them in the mud to give them an authentic layer of dirt and dust. All in a day’s work, folks!

With all the pretties prepped and ready, it was time to begin shooting! Yes, these were two of the actual cameras Bryan was using:

Pretty neat, huh? Here’s the man himself in action:

Meanwhile, inside the house, our professional model (the bride for the day) as well as two lovely Southern Weddings readers were getting prepped by Pamela Lesch and Tanesha Dupree.

Once the gals were beautified, we headed out to the field to shoot!

Everything was going great until we had to climb over a fence… and one of us was in a ball gown. Our model handled it like a champ, though! Still, these might be my favorite behind-the-scenes images :)

A half an hour or so later, and we were ready to call it quits! Here’s a small portion of our shoot crew, and the SW ladies on the bottom.

A HUGE thank you to Leigh Webber for coming out and taking these amazing behind-the-scenes images!! Be sure to check back soon for the full feature. In the meantime, check out this fun BTS video, also put together by Leigh!

Southern Weddings Weekly Round-Up

by in Main on

Oh, y’all. You are so good to us. The blush on our cheeks keeps getting redder and redder — your feedback on our fourth volume of Southern Weddings has been tremendous! Everyday, we exchange a ton of emails squealing about how great our readers, sponsors, and collaborators are. We love you all like a million Reese’s cups! (That’s saying a lot. Have you seen the SW girls around some Reese’s? Probably not because we eat them too quickly.) Check out our big thank you post!

To start off the week, we had to show you SWPS, V4 Style! We package every mailing by hand in our little office. This year, we had about 500 pre-orders to get out in just a couple of days!

We couldn’t have been happier for Tuesday, V4 release day, to come around! Y’all know that means a Giant Photo Contest! Find V4 in stores (or order online to have it shipped via SWPS), take a photo with your glossy new magazine and then tweet it (@iloveswmag) and email it to us. Five winners will get to choose from some fabulous prizes we’ll putting together!

With V4 on shelves, we had to post photos from our Southern by Design spread! Southern met Minnesota in this shoot by Maddy of The Inspired Bride and Paper Antler Photography. We’re crazy for the details like the blooms from Studio Fleurette, paper products by Amy Hardy and treats from Shauna Younge.

It’s giveaway madness this week! Sierra and I were giddy to attend the Design*Sponge book signing at Anthropologie, where we met Amy Azzarito and snagged a photo with Grace Bonney. After, we had our first V4 sighting at Barnes & Noble! In celebration of all new publications, we’re giving away a signed copy of Design Sponge at Home. Tell us where you found V4 for the chance to win!

The V4 gorgeousness continues with a Southern by Design feature where Southern meets Southern California. This punch inspired shoot brings a pop of color, a twist of modernization, and the cutest details you ever did see.

Food is at the heart of the best Southern traditions! This week in the Newlywed Kitchen, one of Marissa’s oldest and dearest friends shared her recipe for Pumpkin Cupcakes. It’s so good, it won her first place at the Greater Gulf State Fair when she was 10! That’s good cookin’, y’all.

This week’s featured Real Wedding Gallery was Meghan + Chris! Their creative mason jar escort cards and delicious-looking cake had us at hello.

Who’s up for some fun announcements?

This winter, The Clifton Inn in Charlottesville, Virginia is giving the ultimate gift to the wedding couple: the entire selection of guestrooms — up to 17 of them — are included at no charge with weddings that take place at The Clifton Inn from from December 2011 through mid-March 2012. To learn more about this offer for your friends and family, visit their site.

The St. Regis Atlanta introduces their new one-of-a-kind registry, St. Regis-try. The service for couples, friends and families offers opportunities for guests of the St. Regis Atlanta to register for and purchase custom experiences for their weddings, honeymoons, or bridal showers. The St. Regis-try makes gift giving easy by offering the opportunity to contribute to a series of memorable experiences at The St. Regis Atlanta during a guest’s stay ranging from dining to spa packages to extended overnight accommodations.
