Favorite thing about weddings in the South? The soft and natural feel to them. They can be simple and elegant at the same time. The South has the best food and the most fun :)

Name: Amanda Rose of Amanda Day Rose

Favorite thing about weddings in the South? The family celebrations, the traditions, the timelessness! Southern weddings are chock full of sweet details that have been passed down through the years, and I love that Southern traditions and values never go out of style!

Name: Adam Gilbert and Austin Stinson of Blueberry Creative
Category: Photography
Where you call home: Wilmington, NC
Favorite part of a wedding day? We love those moments when the bride is almost ready and she’s getting into her dress and putting on various jewelry. The “family element” makes those moments so great. There’s generally a lot of emotion in the room, which gives us so much to work with as story tellers.

Name: Meredith Speer of Bristol Lane
Category: Floral Design
Where you call home: Austin, TX
How I got into weddings: I minored in Horticulture in college as a creative outlet. Once I started classes, I realized floral design combined my love of art, flowers, and business. My family and friends encouraged me to design and a few short months after graduation the Lord blessed me with the opportunity to start a business!

Name: Matthew Pittman of Elements Catering
Category: Catering
Where you call home: Columbia, Mississippi
Best piece of advice you can give to brides and grooms? Take time to relax and enjoy the entire process. I know, at times, it can be stressful, but find that one thing that relaxes you and do it. This is a once in a lifetime experience and you want to enjoy it as much as you can.

Name: Amy Parman of Homestead Manor
Category: Venue
Where you call home: Thompson’s Station, Tennessee
Favorite thing about weddings in the South? The true warmth of hospitality and community. Southerners really know how to plan a party, set a table, throw open the doors, and embrace their loved ones.

Name: Levi Varner of PartyBox Photo Booth
Category: Rentals
Where you call home: Greenville, NC
Best piece of advice you can give to brides and grooms? Make sure that your guests are entertained. Not everyone is a dancer, so it’s great to offer something away from the dance floor.

Name: Stephanie Scholl of Stephanie Scholl Events
Category: Event Planning and Design
Where you call home: Raleigh, NC
Favorite thing about weddings in the South? I think Southern weddings are unique in the sense that there is such a profound focus on meaningful wedding days that ultimately lead to strong, lasting marriages. I adore all of the personalized, meaningful, unique touches that honor the couple, their traditions and culture, and the family and friends that celebrate love alongside them. The beauty of the South amazes me every day, and so many elements of a wedding pull from that inspiration. Southern weddings radiate joy, are steeped in tradition, tell beautiful love stories, and have, at their core, a desire to cultivate a marriage stronger than a Southern oak tree.

Name: Jamie Curley of Tanglewood Plantation
Category: Venue
Where you call home: Washington, DC
Best piece of advice you can give to brides and grooms? The best piece of advice I can give is to just try as hard as you can to enjoy every second of your wedding day, because the entire day passes in a second! Try to take one minute to enjoy your mother and father, try to take one minute to really look into each other eyes, and try to take a bite of your dinner!

Name: Whitney Neal of Whitney Neal Photography
Category: Photography
Where you call home: Louisville, KY
Favorite part of a wedding day? My favorite part of the wedding day is that surreal and powerful moment right before the bride walks down the aisle, and she and her father lock hands and eyes. It’s as if nothing else exists while they watch their life together flash before them.

Talented, professional, compassionate vendors are the backbone of most every smoothly-running wedding day. When you hire people who are great at what they do AND good people to boot, your only job on your wedding day will be to act as a gracious hostess, love your family and friends well, and say “I do.” What a blessing! That’s why we’re passionate about our Blue Ribbon Vendors – because we want y’all to be worrying about those three things, and nothing else. Here are a few we’d love to introduce you to!

Name: Alea Moore Photography
Where you call home: Atlanta, GA
How I got into weddings: I have had a camera in my hands for what feels like forever. In college, I went to school to be a vet, but photographed weddings for my sweet friends to make a little extra pocket money and because I loved it so much. It took a little heart and soul searching to come to the conclusion that I needed something happy every day and though it scared me, I picked up my camera again and never looked back. God was SO good, and I’m beyond thankful to get to do what I love every day!

Name: Astrid and Mercedes
Where you call home: Toronto
Favorite part of a wedding day? The vows… truly, there is no more sacred ground than that you walk upon in marriage and I think the vows set the tone for the life you want to build.

Name: Cherish Creations
Where you call home: Deep in the heart of Texas
Favorite thing about weddings in the South? Tradition is always the staple and I love how they are always a family affair.

Name: Cynthia Rose Photography
Where you call home: Havelock, NC
Things you’d write home to your Momma about: I’d write home to my momma, but I happen to reside in the same neighborhood where I grew up, just a few houses down from my parents, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! We’ve been published in local wedding magazines in Eastern North Carolina and a handful of wedding blogs, but we feel our greatest and most important accomplishment is making our clients happy.

Name: Distressed | Rentals & Revival
Where you call home: South Mississippi
How I got into weddings: I ditched the rat race and went for something I loved – design and working with women! This warm style from a much simpler time came so naturally to me and I quickly went from styling homes to weddings. While working on my first few weddings, it drove me crazy that I could not find authentic pieces to use! So I started building and hunting them one by one. From there, my collection grew into something really special – it may now be the largest vintage rental collection in the Southeast!

Name: Early Mountain Vineyards
Where you call home: Madison, VA
Favorite thing about weddings in the South? We love seeing couples incorporate family traditions and heirlooms into their wedding days. Having four defined seasons lends to wonderful colors and creative decor, making each wedding unique.

Name: Everything But the Ring
Location/Coverage: Texas and worldwide
Best piece of advice you can give to brides and grooms? When you sit down to dinner, take each other’s hand and stop for a moment. Look around the room and take it all in – this is the only moment in time that all of those people will be in the same room together and it’s all for you. Feel THAT love!

Name: Jaclyn Journey, Jaclyn Journey
Where you call home: Louisville, KY
Favorite part of a wedding day? Quiet mornings before the storm – taking time to rest and be present with your family or bridesmaids is to be cherished. You’ll never forget having coffee and breakfast with them while dreaming about the day that is to come!

Name: Jordan Weiland, Jordan Weiland Photography
Where you call home: Lakeland, Florida
How I got into weddings: I’ve always loved photography. I graduated with a Studio Art degree and a passion for photography. I knew I wanted to be my own boss so I did portrait photography for some time until a friend asked me to shoot a wedding with her. I was hooked.

Name: Emily Kennedy, Kennedy Occasions
Where you call home: Murfreesboro, TN… it’s just a tad south of Nashville!
Favorite thing about weddings in the South? The traditions! I love pearls and grandmother’s lace. I love Southern charm and family influence. I love the rolling hills, beautiful blooms, and high school/college sweethearts.

Check out all of our favorite vendors in the Blue Ribbon Vendor Directory! I also wanted to mention that we’re working particularly hard to expand some of our areas of slim pickings – namely, Kentucky, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and West Virginia. If you would like to recommend someone (or nominate yourself!) for any of these states, please email emily at southernweddings.com!

Name: Merideth Bugbee, Belle Soiree Events
Where you call home: New Orleans, LA
How I got into weddings: My very first job was waiting tables in a New Orleans restaurant. The ONE time the staff let me bring out a birthday cake to a lady celebrating her 50th birthday my heart was so full of joy knowing I played a very tiny part in making this day special. I knew from that moment that special events were what I was made for. A few years and lots of hard work later, Belle Soiree Events was born!

Name: Michael Cottrell, Cottrell Photography

Best piece of advice you can give to brides and grooms? During the planning and on the big day, always remember what this is all about- marrying the love of your life. Be thankful for the person you want to spend the rest of your life with, and be thankful for all your friends and family who came to celebrate with you.

Name: Lauren Soley, Lovegood Rentals
Where you call home: Hattiesburg, MS
Favorite part of a wedding day? We love everything about the reception! From the first dance to cake cutting, we enjoy seeing the newlyweds and their guests have the best time socializing and dancing the night away. Relax, and take it all in!

Name: Lydia Robins Hendrix
Where you call home: Columbia, SC
Pie bar or red velvet cake? Pie bar all the way. One of my life’s dream was fulfilled when I had one at my wedding!

Name: MiKel Rumsey
Where you call home: Columbia, SC
Favorite thing about weddings in the South? The South is like no other place on earth – the land of sweet tea, hospitality, yes ma’am and yes sir, biscuits and gravy. Where everything is better with some good food and a few friends, and no piece of clothing is safe from a monogram. Southern weddings are just the same – traditions handed down from mother to daughter, father to son, embroidered handkerchiefs and something blue. The sweet sounds and scents of the South make a Southern wedding something you can’t duplicate anywhere else.
