Southern Weddings Weekly Round-Up

by in Main on

I know I say this almost every week, but this one was a really good one for Southern Weddings! Lara, Emily, Sierra, Whitney, baby Grace, Marissa (via Skype) and I gathered for our annual Christmas party this week to share the joy with each other. We also spent a large amount of time ooh-ing and ahh-ing over the ornaments from our ornament swap! Y’all are so crafty and sweet!

We continued to spread the joy on the blog this week, first by introducing our fab Blue Ribbon Vendors! We’ve been working on this project for months and were thrilled to introduce y’all to the super talented and understanding vendors that could contribute to your wedding dream team. See the details here!

The 12 days of Southern Weddings Christmas ended with a bang! Take a look at all of our giveaways. Remember, you have until December 25 to enter!

Day 1: Monogrammed hankie and gardenia hair flower
Day 2: Kendra Scott earrings
Day 3: Handmade by Sara Kim gift card
Day 5: Paperfinger custom address stamp
Day 6: Custom silhouette cake topper
Day 7: Monogram Journey Locket
Day 8: Durango Boots
Day 9: Plum Pretty Sugar
Day 10: Angee W
Day 11: Lilly Pulitzer
Day 12: Bella Figura

‘Tis the season for giving. We want to help families in need by giving a “Joy to the World” package from Heifer International. Help us deliver this amazing gift by contributing to our fund. Together, we can reach our goal!

Southern hospitality came in the form of a Richmond tote this week! Courtney Spencer of Merriment Events helped us pick the perfect items to include in a welcome bag for your guests.

Marissa told us about her very favorite Southern tradition this week: a moment of prayer. This tradition is rooted in faith, a spirit of thanksgiving, and love.

We followed a sweet wedding moment with one of my favorite Southern Style posts: Veils 101. There are so many options out there, let Marissa walk you through each one.

Emily’s back with a wedding planning update! Around here, we know Emily’s music taste is a little odd. She says, “If your Grandma danced to it, it’s probably my groove.” But who knew she also loves to bust a move to Rihanna? Check out her plans to keep her guests on the dance floor.

Emily spotted something perfectly Southern this week! Cotton juxtaposed with rich purple fabrics makes us swoon!

This week’s featured Real Wedding Gallery was Ashley + Paul. Their Florida wedding was full of school spirit!

Real Wedding fun

We’re just gaga for college sweethearts, Melissa + Eric’s peach and green wedding. Their ribbon details and family contributions stole our hearts. See it here and here.

Fun for all!

Southern Weddings is happy to announce that we’re participating in The Cream Austin (formerly known as Hitched) by Bash, Please. The event is a curated showcase for brides, grooms who want a fresh vision in wedding planning. You can check out our interview here and you can buy tickets here!

Well, ladies and gents, we’re back from Katharine’s wedding.  It was incredible, and not for any superficial reason (though the dress was oh my goodness stunning and the cake was just like she told you it would be), but because Katharine and Kyle were so obviously, completely in love, and everyone in attendance was lucky to be a part of it.  And their ceremony was amazing.

However, life goes on after a wedding, it seems (shocker!), and we thought we’d start off the week with a lovely rehearsal dinner from our friends at Calder Clark Designs, who planned the Southern shindig.  Guests gathered at Charleston’s Confederate Home to celebrate Jennifer + Ryan’s marriage.  Blossoms Events took care of the flowers, with Cru Catering presenting the food, Ashley Bakery supplying the cake, and Dulles Designs on stationery.  Making this an extra-special feature for me, however, are the pennant escort cards, which Calder ordered from my Etsy shop, Peach & Pearl.  It’s so fun to see them through the talented eye of photographer Gayle Brooker!  Read on for a few more details…

From Calder + Caitlin at Calder Clark Designs:

“The couple chose to host their rehearsal dinner at The Confederate Home in downtown Charleston.  In an effort to add a modern twist to the classic Southern charm of the venue, we chose a crisp color palette of apple green and stark white.  We draped the dinner tables in custom green linens and accented those with our collection of vintage milk glass in varying shapes and sizes.  The milk glass pieces were filled with fresh flowers in tonal shades of white and green.  Other signature elements include rattan chargers and handmade sweetgrass rosettes (a Charleston surcee); these natural elements complemented the historic setting and contributed to the Lowcountry feel of the celebration.”

Congratulations, Jennifer + Ryan!  We’re sure your wedding was equally as lovely!

In the spirit of celebration, we thought we’d introduce a few more of our lovely sponsors.  For those readers in the midst of intense wedding planning, we can’t recommend looking at our featured vendors highly or often enough.  We believe in what they do and know you (and they!) would be lucky to team up to create a beautiful wedding day.  Be sure to take a look at the “Previously” section, below, for even more reviews!

We truly can’t say enough good things about David Murray Weddings.  David and his staff’s talent for capturing editorial details as well as the tender, emotional, hilarious, and beautiful moments in a wedding day is beyond impressive.  The word “timeless” comes to mind.  They shoot mainly in Atlanta, Boston, and Kennebunkport, but would be delighted to travel for your big day.  Be sure to check out more of their work on their site here and their blog here!

Completely baffled by the photographer search process?  We hear ya.  Enter Cake & Pictures.  Their site features wedding photography guides for 50 US cities, as well as several international locations.  They’ve done a great job curating their lists, meaning you’ll be sure to find someone that will make you smile on your wedding day.  And since you’ll likely be asked to smile quite often, that’s definitely a good thing! Check out their site here and their blog here.

Studio by Carmen’s crisp, saturated images will appeal to many of our modern brides, I have no doubt.  Carmen and her husband work as a team, crafting photographs that reflect your personality and their love for their work.  Our more adventurous readers should make sure to check out their “boudoir marathons,” too.  You can check out more of their photos on their site here and blog here!

Bottle Your Brand offers eleven different sizes of labels to choose from, and all are customizable!  Their seamless system makes checking out super simple, and, if you use code FREESHIP, shipping is free (duh)!  We think their range of label styles, from preppy to classic to funky, offers something for every Southern bride.  Check out their site here and their blog here!

From the minute Katherine joined the SW sponsor family, she won us over with her sweet personality, quick email response time, and fun branding.  We’re sure all Katherine Miller Events brides feel the same way!  Katherine is an ace at navigating the Charleston wedding market, infusing every event with charming details, fresh ideas, and plenty of style.  Check out her site here and recent weddings here!

Another huge thank you to all of our advertisers!  Happy Friday, readers!

P.S. Want to get in on the action?  Email Katharine for a media kit!
