I really have to learn not to work on Southern Delicacy posts when I’m hungry, because boy does that Coke in a bottle and pimento cheese sandwich look DIVINE!

For those who aren’t familiar with the deliciousness of pimento cheese, it’s a simple Southern staple typically made of sharp cheddar cheese, mayonnaise, pimentos and some simple seasoning, such as salt and/or pepper. Some folks like to get fancy and sub in or add onions, cream cheese, garlic or Monterey jack cheese. Works for me!

According to this fun article on NPR by Wright Bryan (talk about a Southern name!), “Pimento cheese is so ingrained in the lives of many Southerners that we don’t realize our passion for the stuff doesn’t exist outside the region.” He wrote that perhaps the most “national” exposure for pimento cheese was its yearly appearance as a popular sandwich choice at the Masters golf tournament in Augusta. I think those green-jacket-wearing boys have the right idea! The yummy pimento cheese sandwich is traditionally served on cheap white bread. From a quick fix for children playing on a hot summer’s day to the after-church potlucks, pimento cheese has been firmly rooted in everyday Southern life for years and years.

Of course, like most Southern favorites, pimento cheese can be dressed up or dressed down. We love these creative presentations for a wedding cocktail hour!

And how about this, y’all? Really love pimento cheese? We were tickled pink by the fact that you can actually join a pimento cheese of the month club. Seriously! It’s through Asheville’s famed Tupelo Honey Cafe, so you know it’s going to be delicious. Find out more here! If you’re not ready for a yearlong commitment yet, try your hand at their personal recipe, available here.

Welcome back to our Summer in the South series! For today’s post, I’m excited to introduce you to a fabulous Southern guest blogger — A Southern Lady! She and I met via Twitter, and (unsurprisingly) became instant BFFs! Not sure if it’s our love of anything (and everything) monogrammed, or the fact that she’s a good ol’ Southern girl like myself, but either way, if you don’t follow her, you should!

Y’all know it can get hot as a tin roof on a sunny day here in the South, so our friend A Southern Lady is here to share her summertime essentials to keep you looking and feeling cool.

A. In the summer, you simply cannot go wrong with a maxi dress! This watercolor Charlie Jade dress is straight from A Southern Lady’s closet! She says its sleek look “is the perfect combination for a killer outfit on a hot summer day, or a cool summer night.” Ah-greed!

B. Don’t worry about a bad hair day with this adorable and monogrammed beach hat form Marley Lilly. Marley Lilly has an amazing selection of colors and monogram fonts, but A Southern Lady thinks you can’t go wrong with the traditional interlocking font!

C. Let me start by saying how obsessed I am with scoring this next pick! This J. Crew Bubble Necklace is such an amazing accessory! A Southern Lady suggests adding it to a plain v-neck to spice up a look, or pair it with a maxi dress to make it more fun! She says these necklaces go with everything and will grab everyone’s attention.

D. Jack Rogers is the epitome of classic Southern style, and these ones are GLITTERY! It doesn’t get any better than that. These Navajo sandals are comfortable and super stylish.

E. This Nail Life nail revitalizer definitely falls under “essentials” for A Southern Lady. Summer to her means a different bright color nail polish every day, and this revitalizer keeps her nails strong and healthy and looking great for all of those new polishes!

F. Summer is the perfect time for white jeans! Pair them with a bright colored or patterned top and some wedges and you are set! But don’t be caught sporting these before Memorial Day – definitely A Southern Lady no no!

G. You know what they say — “the bigger the hair, the closer to God.” A Southern Lady says this phrase was invented because of Kenra 25 Volume Hair Spray! This is the only hairspray she’s ever used that makes her hairstyle stay, no matter the humidity, without weighing it down! She even carries a travel size in her purse at all times.

H. Want to feel pretty in pink? A Southern Lady swears by Chanel Lip Gloss in Desir! Although pricey, it has the best color and feeling of any lip gloss she’s ever used. Definitely a summer essential!

I. The sun can dry out your skin so badly while you’re bronzing in the sun with your girls. MAC Studio Moisture Cream will work wonders and keep your skin looking young and feeling great after a long summer!

J. You can never go wrong with a great pair of nude wedges! The color goes with almost anything, and can dress up or dress down an outfit. Whether it be a night out at the beach, or a casual date with a cutie, every Southern girl will look amazing in a pair of nude wedges.

K. Nothing says summer like stripes, and y’all know I die for anything with a bow on it! So this bandeau set might need to make an appearance in my closet! The fun combo is a perfect touch to make your beach trip even better!

What are some of your summer essentials to survive a hot Southern day? Don’t forget to let us know and leave our friend, A Southern Lady, some love on Twitter!

I plan on having brunch with the most important women in my life. My mom, grandma, aunt and sister/ maid of honor. We will then make our way to the wonderful Legare Waring House in Charleston where me and my 11 bridesmaid will spend the day getting ready and laughing together. I am looking forward to recording those sweet moments with them and taking some pictures. It will be so exciting to think that my Fiance and his groomsmen will be right below our rooms doing the same thing!

The month of June has been jam-packed for us Southern Weddings ladies! And the Instagram app has made it even easier for us to share little snippets of the fun with all y’all! Here’s a little peek into what’s been going on behind the scenes, in and out of the SW office.

1. My handsome husband’s baseball team participated in the Rickwood Classic. Don’t tell that I was late, but I showed up in the 9th inning for a picture of BDK in his old-timey uniform then left!

2. Lara’s parents celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary! Aren’t they a gorgeous couple?

3. Nicole enjoyed the Women in Country Showcase at the Charlotte Music Awards.

4. Animal Rescue Day brought the sweetest faced pups to the ballpark, and the worst puppy fever to BDK and I.

5. Nicole discovered Sweet Tea Ice Cream!! It’s made in North Carolina, and definitely will become a new staple in our office!

6. My hubs, BDK (on the right), participated in an on-field skit! I laughed until my cheeks hurt – then I broke my toe at this same game!

7. Emily spotted this gorgeous gardenia on an evening walk. So lovely!

8. She also snapped a shot of this hot doggie relaxing in the shade at Tuckahoe Plantation during a V5 shoot. It was about 98 degrees that day – yeow!

9. Krispy Kremes make the perfect celebration treat for a great shoot! Don’t you agree?

10. Emily’s cryptic sketches from a a big V5 editorial planning meeting. Can you guess what kind of feature this will be? Don’t worry – neither can I! ; )

11. Lara’s sweet Grace laughing in her sleep. Let’s pause just for a sec! Can this doll-baby get any cuter? I think not!

12. The adorable Miss Nicole starting V5 layout and choosing image selections. Wait until y’all see what we’ve got in store!

13. A peek at Lara’s desk. Can you believe she painted that peaceful art in the background? What a talented lady!

14. Nicole went skydiving (AHHH! So not jealous!) then gorged on some delicious hushpuppies afterwards (so jealous!).

15. Just a few of the yummy chocolates we’ve been tasting for Taste TV. I know, it’s a tough job!

How was your June? What were the highlights of your month?

P.S. See what our May looked like here.
