This post is sponsored by Invitations by Dawn – thanks for your support of the brands that make Southern Weddings possible!

The Southern Weddings office has been buzzing with excitement for the last few weeks over the upcoming National Stationery Show! Seeing the new line-up of gorgeous paper products is a highlight of the year for Nicole and me, and we’re excited that she’ll be in NYC attending next week (and then reporting back to y’all!). (And okay, maybe I’m a tad bit jealous. too.) Luckily, our friends at Invitations by Dawn sent some of their beautiful new lace wedding invitations to tide us over!

For over 30 years, Invitations by Dawn has helped couples invite their guests in a way that fits their style to a tee. That’s a lot of couples whose lives they’ve been a part, and they don’t take that responsibility lightly – they really care about their couples, and have the friendliest, most knowledgeable consultants in the business. Their etiquette tips and assembly guides also make things a breeze.

Invitations by Dawn offers a huge variety of styles (with samples!), including letterpress, embossed, thermographed, and full color digital. We’re especially smitten with their lace designs, super fitting for the Southern bride who so often wears a gorgeous lace gown or veil.

The kind folks at Invitations by Dawn are offering Southern Wedding readers 25% off your wedding invitation order with code SOUTHERN25, including premium collections (letterpress and foil-stamped – only Disney is excluded!). The offer is valid through August 31, 2014.

Take a peek at their lace invitations, and all of their invitations here! We’d love to hear which design is your favorite!

We just wrapped up our second Southern Weddings Volume 7 editorial shoot on Tuesday, so we thought now might be a good time to check in and report on our first shoot, which took place at the end of April! So many people wonder how, exactly, the magazine comes together with such a small staff. The answer boils down to relationships – we are so lucky to work with such talented folks! This time around we had Landon Jacob on hand for photography, Kelly from Philosophy Flowers on blooms, and LULA Hair & Makeup making everyone look beautiful (just to name a few!). Though everything came together perfectly on the day-of, this shoot was not without its hiccups in the run-up – leading to this (overly dramatic?) instagram photo we shared just days before:

Consider it our best attempt at a Scarlett O’Hara impression. In the end, though, our worries went unfounded, as we were rewarded with an absolutely gorgeous day – probably the prettiest one we’ve ever had for a shoot.

We tried something a little different for the cake this time around – we purchased a simple two-layer beauty from Whole Foods, then added our own decor. It turned out better than we expected, and we’re excited to share this totally doable idea in the magazine! Jordan captured the final result (just out of the frame!) beautifully.

Possibly my favorite moment of the day, though? I returned home, tired after many hours on my feet, only to turn around from putting things away to see my cat gleefully licking our cake!! Her eyes were practically closed, she was so happy. Well, at least we know it was delicious :)

We’ve been sharing snippets of magazine prep with a new hashtag on social media, #MakingSouthernWeddings – we hope y’all will find it fun to follow along! In the meantime, you can pick up past print editions in our shop to tide you over until November!
