Unsurprisingly, our very first summer theme is one that’s near and dear to our hearts. We’ve pulled inspiration from the South’s summers for many projects over the years, and with good reason – there’s nothing quite as resonant as memories created in the magically long dog days of childhood! Last year’s Fun and Fancy Free editorial immediately jumped to mind as one of those projects that we wanted to share with you again in honor of Summer Love – here’s hoping it inspires you to picnic, eat watermelon, and run through a sprinkler to your heart’s content!

Happy Monday, friends! So far, you’ve gotten a peek at the Dream Southern Summer Weddings of the lovely Emily, Marissa, Nicole and Kristin, and now it’s my turn!

One thing that sets me apart from most of my fellow SW gals is that I am a city girl, through and through. My sister and I joke that we sleep better to traffic noises than country noises, and nothing fires me up quite like exploring places like Atlanta, Raleigh, or Austin (three of my very favorite Southern cities). With that being said, an elegant wedding in my nearest big city (Raleigh) complete with lots of charming Southern details would be my dream come true!

Clockwise from top left: bridesmaid dresses by Jessica Lorren, tablescape by Caroline Joy via Style Me Pretty, chalkboard calligraphy by Jen Huang via Style Me Pretty, cake by Steve Steinhardt via Southern Weddings, Raleigh wedding portrait by Nancy Ray via Style Me Pretty, Just Married sign by Max Wanger via 100 Layer Cake, invitation by Patricia Lyons via Southern Weddings, venue by Sam Stroud via Southern Weddings, Vera Wang Delaney dress by Lacie Hansen via Snippet and Ink

The feel: Classic and chic with an undeniable sense of Southern hospitality. Lush florals, swirly custom calligraphy, and cafe lights strung across the ceiling would help strike the perfect balance between urban and romantic. The details would all have an understated Southern feel, such as mint julep signature cocktails, a seersucker something blue, gussied up biscuits (like from our V6 biscuit shoot–check out a little sneak peek on Instagram!) and monogrammed cocktail napkins.

The place: I love industrial elements in reception spaces, especially brick walls, hardwood floors and huge architectural windows. A venue in the heart of Raleigh with any combination of these things would be fine by me!

The time: Early June, around 5 p.m.

The style: Since we’re just dreaming here, I’d splurge on one of my favorite dresses ever, the gorgeous Vera Wang Delaney. Y’all, this dress gives me chills! I love anything with bows, so I would pair it with some dreamy Valentino bow pumps, and complete the look with a long, wispy veil, My girls would wear long, mismatched dresses in shades of blush, gray and ivory, plus some delicate gold jewelry. My groom and his guys would dress in classic, dark gray suits and brown wingtip shoes.

The food: I can’t quite shake my love affair with the foodie culture in Austin, where I went to college, so I’d have to go with an elegant, modern take on Tex Mex. If Torchy’s Tacos would like to deliver to Raleigh as well, I would not refuse it. :)

The music: This is one place I would bring in more distinctly Southern elements, especially because I love country music. I’m thinking a live bluegrass band at cocktail hour and then a handful of my favorite country songs on the reception playlist.

The flowers: My two favorite flowers are quite strictly spring flowers (peonies and dogwoods–though see if you can find a different way I’d incorporate dogwoods!). For the summer, I would opt for blush garden roses, white gardenias and pale pink ranunculus, all anchored with some dark greenery. My bouquet would be tied with a charcoal gray Froufrou Chic ribbon and accented with my mom’s gold heart locket (something old and borrowed!). Centerpieces would consist of more of the same, arranged in loose, low vessels that let the flowers and greenery spill out on to the table.

What do y’all think? What would your dream Southern summer wedding look like?

Good morning, y’all, and happy Monday! So far you have had a chance to peek into our Dream Southern Summer Wedding series with Emily, Marissa + Nicole. Don’t forget to check back soon as we still have a few more dream celebrations to share!!

Since I planned my dream summer wedding last year, I was a bit nervous for how I could top my real-life dream come true. But if I had a chance to plan another dream summer wedding it might look something like this:

Credits, clockwise from top left: striped bridesmaid dress photo by One and Only Paris via Style Me Pretty, red flags photo by Lisa Lefkowitz, Wilmington photo by Faith Teasley via Southern Weddings, striped linen photo by Justin DeMutiis via Southern Weddings, portrait by Jonathan Canlas, strawberry ice cream from Martha Stewart, nautical tablescape photo by Trent Bailey via Southern Weddings, Southern food photo by Eric Kelley via Southern Weddings, sparkly gold heels photo by Tec Petaja via Southern Weddings

The Feel: Festive, glamorous, patriotic and sparkly.  There must be plenty of navy and white stripes and of course an American flag. I have a strong love of family, faith and country. What better way to celebrate all three than with a patriotic Summer wedding?

The Place: The Carolina coast where we can hear the ocean in the distance and smell the salty beach air. Bald Head Island, Kiawah Island or Hilton Head? Any one of these lovely locales would work just fine.

The Time: 6pm, early July (ahhem, perhaps July 4th???)

The style: Glamorous meets festive + a big dash of sparkle. I can’t believe I am trading in my beloved wedding dress, but I think something a little more form fitting would be appropriate for this glamorous patriotic fete.  My girls would wear navy ruffles and the gentlemen would sport tuxedos with striped suspenders and bow ties, of course. An outfit change for the dancing portion of the evening is a must. A short and sparkly number similar to Sara’s, perhaps?

The Food: Who doesn’t love a hotdog or hamburger on Independence day? Since we are glamming things up, I think that I would honor my love of miniature food (shared with Mrs. Thomas) and server sliders, potato salad shots, and watermelon skewers during cocktail hour. Since we are at the beach, seafood will be the star of the show for the main course and must include shrimp and grits (my husband’s favorite). As for the dessert, the only option for our family on the 4th of July is homemade ice cream. We would have an ice cream bar and serve vanilla, peach, strawberry and chocolate homemade ice cream with a variety of yummy toppings.

The music: Since we are within walking distance of the Carolina coast, I don’t think anything but beach music would be acceptable? Right? The Band of Oz would be able to keep the dance floor full all night long.

The flowers: My bouquet would be a sweet mix of garden roses, ranunculus and hydrangeas, dahlias zinnias, in shades of cream wrapped in a lovely gold monogrammed handkerchief. The tables would be simple with low arrangements of hydrangeas, small flags and a smattering of strawberries.

What do you think, gals? What would YOUR dream Southern summer wedding look like?
