It’s only appropriate for Cassie + Ryan, both actors, to have an old Hollywood themed wedding. (How perfectly 1940’s is the photo of Cassie sipping on a soda? Adorable.) The bride’s sleek Amsale dress made her feel like Audrey Hepburn as she walked down the aisle and said her “I Do’s” to Ryan. The orchids and hydrangeas, courtesy of Ilex for Flowers, that hung from the guests’ chairs and were draped along the stone wall were the couple’s favorite detail of the wedding and hinted at the floral gorgeousness to come at the reception. Big thanks to Amelia Strauss for sharing! Don’t forget to come back for Part II.

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. I was walking across the street at a crosswalk in Los Angeles, when a Suburban ran a red light and nearly hit me. I yelled at the SUV “It’s alright, I’m just walking here!” Ryan was walking ahead of me, had made it to the sidewalk and laughed at what I said. I apologized, and he was impressed that I nearly had a run in with death and I had made light of it. We began walking together and were somehow headed the same direction. It turned out that our cars were parked next to each other and were the same color blue. We continued to talk for two hours by our cars. Ryan admits he was too afraid to ask for my phone number, so he asked me to write my name on a $10 bill. I wrote “Cassie Yeager is a…” right next to the 10. He still has that ten-dollar bill.
Describe the proposal. I was still in school at the time. Ryan had asked me earlier if I would go to dinner with him when I was done with class. At eleven that night, he was waiting outside the school for me. I was starving and he asked me to go for a walk with him. Reluctantly, I agreed. We held hands and his hands were sweating (which never happens). All the restaurants were to the right of the school, but when we turned out of the school, he suggested we go left. As we walked, we came upon the crosswalk where we first met. He said, “Remember how we met, how you made light of such a frightening situation?” I giggled. Then he stopped at the corner and knelt down. “Cassie, I have appreciated how much happiness and laughter you have brought to my life, will you please be my wife?” I forgot how to breathe and couldn’t figure out how to give him my finger to put the ring on, but was eventually able to whimper out a tearful “Yes.”
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Classic, enchanting, dazzling
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: To choose just one is impossible, but the bunches of white orchids that draped across the stone wall as we exchanged our vows strongly stand out when I reflect on the day.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: My mother knew exactly what dress I wanted before I did when she saw the Amsale design in a bridal magazine. She and my Aunt Cass flew out to LA and we went to Saks 5th Avenue Beverly Hills. When we walked the floor, my mother did not see the dress she saw in the magazine and asked our consultant about it. She knew exactly which dress we were asking about and, within an hour and a half, I was deciding between the Amsale and a gorgeous flowing Grecian goddess dress. It came down to the Amsale because it fit the theme of our wedding, “Old Hollywood” and the classic 1940’s. I felt like Betty Davis and Audrey Hepburn as I stood in it the dress.

How’s this for an exciting start to your week: pre-orders for Southern Weddings V4 are now open!!!

We’re officially a few short weeks away from the date Southern Weddings V4 will release onto newsstands around the country (yeehaw!), and just days before the issue hits stands, we will ship out a massive amount of pre-orders from our humble office in North Carolina! Last year we personally shipped around 500 copies in the first few days of V3’s release — can y’all top that this year?? I think you can!

To add to the madness and make sure you have a copy in hand the minute V4 is available, just click here! Remember, even though you’ll pay now, your order won’t be shipped until October 14! (V2 orders, of course, will continue shipping as usual.) If you choose to order a V2 + V4 combo, that order will also ship on October 14.

We are so crazy, hoppin’ excited over here, y’all!! We can’t wait to share all the goodness we’ve been working on!

Soo… will I find it on newstands before I would receive it in the mail if I order it? I want one regardless, just trying to decide what to do!

    • avatar Emily reply

Hi Stacey! The magazine will debut on a Tuesday, and we will ship pre-orders Priority via USPS the Friday before that. So, depending on where you live in the country, you should receive your copy either the day before or the day of the newsstand release (obviously international orders will take a bit longer!). Hope that helps you make up your mind!

Whew! It’s been a crazy week, y’all! Aren’t you glad tomorrow is Saturday? Maybe you’ll be sleeping in and treating yourself to a big breakfast, like me. This week was all about inspiration! Let’s take a look back.

Emily put together a Southern Inspiration Board full of soft peaches and blues. It’s the perfect ode to our favorite summer fruit, the peach, which hits peak ripeness in August.

This week’s Southern Fab Find brought me visions of an outdoor cocktail hour. Wouldn’t your signature drinks look adorable on these Paper Fancy trays? Go to the original post to enter to win one!

We received so many cute and creative escort card entries for our first Ultimate Southern Challenge. This week, we shared our top ten finalists! Emily Steffen submitted barbecue sauce and spice rub escort cards!

Beeology teamed up with photographer Jill Higgins to bring us these sweet-as-honey escort cards.

Daisies and Pearls brought us an idea that’s sure to put a spring in your guests’ steps. The Carolina Shag steps are illustrated on these escort cards, photographed by Meredith Perdue.

Cyn Kain Photography and Erin McLean Events shared an adorable idea that comes with easy DIY steps! The s’mores escort cards look so yummy!

The pie pop escort cards submitted by Allison Barnhill Designs, photographed by Elizabeth Ryan Photography and catered by Relysh Catering will have your mouth watering!

The entry submitted by Southern Fried Paper and photographed by Sarah Kate brought life to a Southern staple, sweet tea! We also love the table display by After Yes.

Y’all know how much we love our seersucker bow ties! Honey Bee Invites gave us an intense dose of cuteness with their escort cards, photographed by The Studio B.

Honey Bee Invites and The Studio B brought us another adorable concept: Fried Check-In!

We sat a spell with our dynamic Editor In Chief, Lara Casey! She really needs no introduction, but she’s got some pretty funny tidbits to share with you.

Remember Dana + Danny? They’re black, white, and red Florida wedding won our hearts. This week, they’re our featured Real Wedding Gallery!

Y’all will love these announcements!

Paper-lovers rejoice! The Lettered Olive is holding their very first trunk show in Charleston, S.C., to show off their new collections, iPad app, and to offer you a sweet little deal! Remember to visit them on Wednesday, September 7 from 4pm to 7pm at their shop!

We know how much y’all adore Forage bow ties. Lucky you, they’re featured in 100 Layer Cake’s Pop-Up Shop this week! Head over there before the sale ends tonight!

Before y’all go, here’s a photo from Dixie Pixel. Genuine. Fun. Love it.

See you next week!
