Despite our 5 A.M. wakeup calls, when Emily and I hit the road to Charleston for our Holy City Hospitality shoot, we were giddy with excitement. The clouds cleared more and more the further south we drove, and Emily’s car was packed to the brim with perfectly wrapped black and white gifts, chic paper details, a gorgeous little Monique Lhuillier, and even Taylor‘s signature hat, which he kindly loaned to us. As you can see, we had tons of amazing details to shoot, and thanks to the hard work and sweet personalities of KT Merry and the A Charleston Bride ladies, the day was just as lovely as we had dreamed it would be!

Thanks so much to our Blue Ribbon Vendor, Dana Cubbage, for capturing all of these moments behind the scenes!

The William Aiken House‘s yellow walls and checkered floor could have been made for this shoot. We loved spending the day at this historic Charleston venue.

This was our first shoot armed with our Oatmeal Lace aprons, and it is safe to say they became a permanent fixture at all SW shoots after that!

KT and Chad are quite the dynamic duo–we always love working with them, and KT is fearless when it comes to getting the perfect shot!

See how this gorgeous shoot turned out here and in V7!

I must say, y’all, I’m extra excited to share the behind the scenes of V7’s A Bushel and a Peck because this is by far the best my hair has ever looked at an editorial shoot! ;) It was such a blast to be on both sides of this shoot–one of our biggest of the year, with incredible vendors who flew in from across the country to take part, including our photographer, Tec Petaja, and florist/stylist, Rhiannon of Hey Gorgeous Events. Our Blue Ribbon Vendor, Nancy Ray Photography captured all of the magic that went on behind the scenes, from invitation styling and film rolling, to bug spraying and table setting!

Oh, how we love Fearrington! There are so many beautiful nooks and crannies in the gardens that we took full advantage of.

I just have to pause for a second because the photo below makes me smile so much–thanks for protecting me from mosquitoes, fiancé! :)

Spending time together and with friends doing something we love so much is one of the best things about shoot days. Kristin drove down from Virginia to be on hand, and Rhiannon flew all the way from Michigan to style and create the most amazing floral arrangements for us.

After wrapping up at Fearrington, we packed up in about five cars and headed an hour west to the perfect peach orchard we had selected. It was the loveliest setting for our table, plus a bunch of bride and groom portraits!

Ladder-less, Tec had to climb onto a very precarious stack of crates to photograph the food! We did our best to spot him and make sure he didn’t fall face down into the peach galette :)

The day ended the way all the best shoot days do: hot, sweaty, tired, and bugspray-scented, but overwhelmingly happy, grateful, and excited about creating something truly meaningful and inspiring. Stay tuned for more editorials coming up over the next few weeks, and don’t forget to order your copy of V7 here!

When I interned with Brides of Oklahoma magazine, I remember shoot days ending pretty similar – hot sweaty and tired! It’s so rewarding seeing the beautiful creations after a hard days work!

You look beautiful Lisa! I’m loving that y’all are sharing a look at the making of V7. One of my favorite behind-the-scenes photos is the one that shows the moment when Tec captured the cover shot :)

I think I hold my breath for the full week leading up to each photo shoot day, hoping and praying that we’ll be blessed with beautiful weather. Thankfully, because of our sunny Southern clime, we usually get our wish. But sometimes we don’t — and the result can still be beautiful! Even though the day of our Berry Bliss shoot was gray and chilly, we were still able to make some Southern Weddings magic happen. Big thanks to Graham Terhune for capturing the work that went into making the final images oh-so-lovely!

Most photo shoot days start with many deliveries — flowers and chocolate and paper, oh my!

There’s usually lots of ironing and sorting and unpacking, too. We were thankful to have our spring intern, Jessica, on hand to help with this one! We even did a little repotting of geraniums for our table centerpiece!

My go-to plan is to shoot any still elements (paper suites, bouquets, boutonnieres) inside in the morning while we set larger elements up and models get prepped. That way, we save the best light (afternoon!) for the people and table! And oh yes — you know who’s setting up the table. And hauling the table. And loading and unloading the table (and everything else).

Though we have a general idea of how everything’s going to look, I like to wait until the actual day to make final decisions and consider a few options for things like linens and table settings. Things can definitely look different when they’re next to each other and not just photos or ideas on paper! Happily, we had Whitney’s sweet puppy to distract us from our careful consideration!

We had some pretty cute human models, too, including Mr. Pax and his mama MacKenzie. It was all hands on deck for redheads at this shoot!

Even Miss Grace came to observe!

Did I mention that we do a lot of carrying and holding on shoot days? These next few photos should illustrate that pretty well. Let’s just say my back was a little sore the next day from all that crouching! But we do it all with a smile, because it really is fun :)

Up next: The finished photos, and a SUPER awesome giveaway you won’t want to miss!
