Oh my word. Haley + Patrick’s favorite part of their wedding was seeing all of their hard-planned details come together in one place. The result is a warm and welcoming night under the stars — a wedding that mimics what I imagine the night of the proposal was like! I can see why this was their favorite part! I’m loving how intimate their wedding feels — from the rustic seating at the ceremony to the dinner party-like atmosphere at their reception. While transforming the venue was no easy feat, we think it was well worth the extra attention.

We’re giving out big hugs to Heather Roth who shared this day with us!

Y’all, I’m just gaga over those sequined ruffles in Haley’s dress. She had actually picked out a different dress before spotting this one, but as soon as she left the store, she couldn’t get this beauty out of her mind! “I went back and tried it on again and became obsessed with it!”

Describe your wedding flowers: I wanted something simple and natural for my bouquet, so our florist used whites and greens and incorporated kale, which was my one request — I love how it looks. For the tables, I wanted to use fall colors and have a rustic feel to it. She nailed it and the flowers turned out better than I ever imagined!

Did you write your own vows? We didn’t write our own vows but we had an amazing officiant, Ruth Ellen Hasser, who gave us tons of options so we were able to make the ceremony personal and pick out vows that really meant something to us.

Our wedding ceremony and ceremony dinner were both outside. We wanted it to feel very rustic and warm for our family and friends. The ceremony night was very laid back with great wine, amazing food, candles and lanterns everywhere and out in the country, where we could enjoy a perfect night sky.

What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? Location. We really wanted the whole thing out at the farm, but it is in the middle of nowhere! We had to change our plans to make it easier on our vendors and guests. We are so glad we did though because it turned out perfectly.

What is the one thing you are most happy you splurged on? Our ceremony dinner. We had an amazing chef, Lou Rook III from Annie Gunn’s, who came down and made an amazing five course game-themed dinner with wine pairings. He incorporated boar cheek sliders, squab, elk shoulder, rabbit, and even turtle soup! I have to admit I was a little nervous, but it was amazing!

Describe your wedding cake or dessert: For our cake, I wanted something simple and elegant. We chose a white buttercream cake with a flower that had cascading petals down the cake. We did two flavors, chocolate with raspberry and mocha filling and white cake with hazelnut and tiramisu filling!

And be sure to check out Haley + Patrick’s beautiful film by Love Bird Studios!

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. We met at the opening for a new rooftop lounge. Patrick came up and introduced himself and that was it!!
Describe the proposal. We were enjoying a gorgeous fall night out by our fire pit. Patrick waited until I fell asleep (he knows me well, I always fall asleep!), and when he woke me up he was on his knee with the ring in his hand. It was so perfect and us!
In what month did you get married? October
How many guests attended your wedding? We were married in Houston, where Patrick and his family have a farm. There were 20 people there. We then had our reception two days later back in St. Louis, where we celebrated with 100 close friends and family.
Did you decide to do a “first look”? We decided against the first look. There was something so romantic to us about waiting until the ceremony to see each other.
Tell us about some of the songs you used throughout your wedding. Our first dance was to “At Last” by Etta James. After our dance, we had fireworks go off, to which the band played Katy Perry’s “Firework”!
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: That we got married :) We loved seeing everything come together and all of our ideas put together to make the perfect two nights!
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? Seeing each other for the first time!
What advice do you have for folks currently planning a wedding? I’m so glad I had such an amazing wedding planner. Especially the day of, I was so relaxed knowing I could trust her and was able to enjoy every moment of our day.
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? To continue to enjoy our little family!

The country look was just amazing. The night sky was spectacular. And the dinning room
table setting was as country rustic with charm as one could get. It was truly a well thought out design plan. And last but not least, the photography was excelent. Hat’s off to your wedding planner and may God bless both of you.

This shoot was one of the very first ones we put together, and can I tell you a secret? It actually wasn’t shot in the South! We typically stay below the Mason-Dixon Line, for obvious reasons, but since Jen Huang and the Poppies & Posies gals came to us with the kernel of an idea and the perfect place to set it — a private property in Jen’s family in upstate New York — we traveled to them. And it turned out beautifully!

As you’ll be able to see pretty quickly, we were inspired by the Kentucky Derby, but we wanted to put our own classic girly sophisticated spin on things. We focused on apples, a favorite treat of the stars of the show, and pulled soft blush into the bright red palette to soften it.

Bryn from Paperfinger created the beautiful stationery suite and penned all the calligraphy, including the lines you see in the magazine feature!

Here’s our beautiful couple for the day! Jacqueline and Jeff just got married in October, so they were engaged at this shoot, and they were so sweet and adorable! The “bridesmaids” were equally as wonderful, and they were ALL good sports about shooting in the mist, and then rain :)

Now that’s a bouquet!! Between Amy yesterday and Sierra and Juliet today, we were lucky to work with the most talented florists!

This little guy might look cute, but he was not so interested in our photo shoot. Well, I take that back. His interest in our photo shoot extended to trying to nip treats off the sweet table and steal mouthfuls from the bouquets. Needless to say his stay was short-lived “on set.”

A bourbon bar! Love this man-friendly option for a cocktail hour or a corner of the reception. Sierra and Juliet brought boxes of beautiful accessories, like these vintage bourbon bottles from their prop shop The Trove, which was so helpful!

Gorgeous linens from La Tavola, an overflowing centerpiece from Poppies & Posies, and gilded details everywhere made this table shine. My very favorite detail, though, might have been the apple place cards – such a beautiful bright pop of color on the soft table!

Ahhh the sweets table. Emily from Lael Cakes blew us out of the water with her amazing looking and tasting completely vegan and gluten free apple-themed desserts. Between the mini apple pies, the gold-dusted caramel apples and THAT CAKE, we were singing her praises the whole day. Isn’t that cake pretty much the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen??

Huge thanks to our entire northern crew who worked on this shoot! Even though you’re in Yankee territory, you know a thing or two about Southern hospitality :)

Be sure to pick up your copy of V5 to see even more details and photos from this editorial, and stay tuned for the behind the scenes video by McKenzie Miller on Saturday!

With a husband who travels frequently, I can definitely identify with the challenge Claire + Nathan faced when they took their relationship long distance. But with creativity and the help of Claire’s friends, I think Nathan came through with a sweet and surprised-filled proposal (be sure to read all about it below)! Then he poured on some more sugar during their ceremony, by vowing: “I give my all to you, my support for your achievement, my counsel for problems, my prosperity for yours, my shoulder for your tears and my ear for your voice.” Swoon!

Special thanks to Brett Heidebrecht for capturing their joy filled day!

Jumping up and down on the bed in hot rollers? I want to be friends with this bridal party!

Describe your wedding flowers: Gorgeous! We had wildflower bouquets with pale pinks and creams, light blue and burlap and lace tied around.
Describe your wedding cake or dessert: We each had a traditional cake (pink and creamy for mine and a red Razorback for his) and then had cheesecake squares!

Personally, I’m loving the mixed bridesmaid dresses. Each of Claire’s girl’s picked out her own short and sleeveless gray dress, and acccording to Claire, they came from Anthropologie, J Crew, and Nordstroms.

I walked down the aisle to “Great is Thy Faithfulness.” It was the same song that was also used in my parents wedding. During the wedding, our friend sang “Till Kingdom Come,” which is our song.

We decorated the property with a ton of white lights draped through trees and lining the buildings — it looked gorgeous as the sun went down.

We spent a good chunk on photography, knowing we would have those pictures forever! Food was another one — we wanted everyone traveling to our wedding to have a great time and enjoy the party!

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. We met our junior year of college. I went with a group of girls over to a friend’s house to cook dinner and Nathan was there. Two years later, I graduated and Nathan went to India for a year. We didn’t speak until a year and a half later when he called to ask me on a date. I swooned and the rest is history!
Describe the proposal. Nathan and I dated long distance for a year while he lived in Arkansas and I worked in Lawrence, Kansas. I’d settled on not being surprised by a proposal because every weekend I saw him was so planned! But he arranged for my friends to plan my whole weekend – Friday, two friends took me to get a manicure and a spray tan and Saturday, two other friends took me to get coffee and out to a lookout that Nathan and I love. As I walked up the stairs of the lookout tower, I saw Nathan sitting there. I was shocked! He led me up the stairs and we looked through a photo album of the four years we’d known each other. It was four years to the day of when we’d met.
In what month did you get married? May
How many guests attended your wedding? About 230
Did you decide to do a “first look”? Yes, mostly for time’s sake.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? My dad passed away when I was a kid, so instead of a father-daughter dance, I danced with my mom and sister to “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” It was a sweet moment of celebrating our family
What advice do you have for folks currently planning a wedding? Ask for help when you need it! Being stressed can take all the fun out of planning a wedding.
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? We just moved to Springfield, Missouri to work with a college ministry at Missouri State University. We’re getting settled into our first home!
