After their fashion-forward ceremony, Alison + Manny treated their family and friends to a low-key reception at the Hermitage Hill Farm and Stables that brought all the comforts of home to the burlap-covered guest tables. The newlyweds decorated the space with their favorite books and handmade chalkboards that doubled as table assignments, and Flowers by Rose repurposed Mason jars with white tulips and daisies. I’m in love with the bride + groom’s sweet, made-for-two wedding cake, courtesy of Carrie Hampton Ashton. For those of you who can’t get enough of Alison + Manny’s big day, hop on over to Katelyn James’ blog post for more fun!

Tell us about finding your wedding dress: This was the first dress I ever tried on! I didn’t have a very specific picture of what I was looking for, except that I would have loved to find a dress with a sweetheart neckline. I love pockets, too, but wasn’t too convinced I would find a wedding gown with them! I had visions of removing the large bow that was originally on it and adding a sash of flowers to make it fit my personality more, but when my mom and I removed the bow to make the changes, it looked perfect to me the way it was!
Describe your wedding flowers: I loved our flowers! Many of our decorations were sort of mismatched and pieced together in fun ways and so I knew I wanted some variety in the types of flowers. We placed a few stems of some tulips, some gerbera daisies, some hydrangeas, etc, in a mason jar wrapped in twine and a great shade of green ribbon! My parents found the jars at thrift stores in Harrisonburg and my mother in law had a friend with a farmhouse give her crates and crates of them They made adorable (and cheap!) vases and votive holders!
Describe your wedding cake: I had NO idea what the cake was going to look like. I had given the baker a few pictures of some ideas, and she created the most beautiful cake! Manny had expressed early on that he would like to have cupcakes at our wedding. I agreed and loved the idea! We just wanted a two-tier wedding cake in addition to the cupcakes, just large enough to be a centerpiece on the cake table. Our baker used ivory butter cream frosting on a chocolate fudge cake with peanut butter filling! The design was adorable and fit perfectly with our theme – she piped the middle of the two tiers with icing that looked just like the twine, adding an adorable little brown flower to the center.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? Staying within our budget while planning a wedding with 250 guests! We had a budget of $10,000 we needed to remain under, and as such, it was a daunting task to figure out how to accommodate this large number of guests while still achieving a wedding day that was distinctly “us.” Planning the wedding for the “off-season” at our reception venue and using a local favorite barbecue place as our caterer were two things that really helped to off-set some costs! All of our centerpieces and decorations were basically homemade, as well!
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? Manny was offered a full time job on staff with Young Life AT our wedding!! We’ll find out in April where in Virginia he will be placed, and we will move at the end of July.

Carolina couple Jennifer + Kyle definitely win the glitz ‘n glam award for V3. With the help of Elyse Woodward Events, the bride + groom transformed the Design Center of the Carolinas into a sparkling soirre reminiscent of the Great Gatsby. Cake Lady Jill definitely takes the cake for her fabulous display of black and white confections. I’m in love Mille Holloman Photography all over again for sharing this gem with us. I just love the seamless incorporation of a relaxed lounge area in the reception space. Unlike many other wedding and reception photos I’ve seen, the lounge space is intermingled with the dining tables, and almost resembles them as well. This looks like a great place to catch up with some guests you haven’t talked to or weren’t sitting with! Also, the entire black and white motif is gorgeous!

I’d love to know where they found the “J” and “k”. I’ve been looking for something similar for our wedding in May.

It’s hard to believe it’s still winter after seeing Jennifer + Armand’s technicolor dream wedding at the Country Music Hall of Fame, and the celebration only got bigger + better once they moved the party to the ballroom. I’d spend more time in speechless wonder at the glitzy indoor reception, styled by Sweet Life Designs, but I’m already two steps ahead and drooling over the to-die-for candy bar. Oh, my sweet heaven! As if the happy couple wasn’t already on a sugar high, Maples Wedding Cakes designed J + A’s blue and white confection. Hugs to Nashville-based photographer Kristyn Hogan for getting our weekend off to a bright start!

Tell us about finding your wedding dress: I had no idea what kind of dress I wanted. I went to one store with my mother and we tried on about 13 dresses. I liked a lot of them and they were all different styles, which made it harder to decide which style I liked best. A few weeks after the first attempt, we went to another store where I found two that I loved. They were total opposites too and I couldn’t decide. Someone asked me how I wanted to wear my hair on that day, and I did a makeshift ponytail on the side while wearing the drop waist dress and knew immediately that it was the one I wanted.
Describe your wedding flowers: I love bright colors and I wanted my flowers to reflect that. The bouquets, boutonnières, and flower arrangements consisted of blue dendrobium orchids, hydrangeas, orange roses, calla lilies, and a few more flowers. There were hints of blues, oranges, and pinks in all the arrangements. There were flowers that bordered the runner as well. The table arrangements at the reception venue were amazing. There were tables with large cyliners filled with water, some of them had pomanders of orange roses, and some had submerged blue hydrangeas. The flowers were absolutely amazing and definitely everything I wanted and more.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? We both agree that being apart was the biggest challenge. Armand’s group, Naturally 7 began touring with Michael Buble in March of 2010, which meant he was gone most of the time for long stretches. Armand definitely wanted a part in the planning so much of it was done sending pictures, calling while in meetings with the our planner, and showing him things to choose over iChat or Skype.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? (From the groom) After the prayer of consecration, I saw Jennifer being given a microphone, and my first thought was, “Oh my goodness! I didn’t write my vows, I guess I’ll just have to improvise. Stay calm Armand!” And then I see one of my favorite pianists, Dr. Cedric Dent from the group Take 6, move toward the piano to play. All of a sudden, Jennifer starts to sing! She already knew that if she sang, I wouldn’t be able to control my emotions, and sure enough, I cried throughout the whole song. I have no idea how she was able to make it through but she did an amazing job.
