Amy and Brian met on a double blind date on election night in 2012, and as the only two Republicans in the restaurant, their night may not have ended the way they would have liked politically, but personally, it turned out perfectly! After two new jobs and a new city, Amy and Brian knew they wanted to celebrate their wedding in a familiar spot: Naples, Florida. Brian grew up visiting the beautiful beach town, and Amy quickly grew to love it too. It was just right for their Southern Florida-inspired wedding, filled with bright and bold florals, and even miniature pineapples at every place setting! I love this nod to Southern hospitality, and I completely agree with Amy’s response to what could possibly be cuter than 150 miniature pineapples: “The answer is nothing.”

Thank you kindly to Set Free Photography for sharing this beautiful day with us!

Right before we got engaged, Brian received a promotional opportunity that required relocation from Chicago to Columbus, Ohio. Since our lives were a jumbled mess of moving parts at the time, I decided to travel to New York City, where my sister and maid of honor lives with her husband, for wedding dress shopping at the one and only Kleinfeld’s Bridal. I figured if I had to fly back and forth from whereever I might be living at the time for various fitting appointments, it would be best to choose a place that came with a free weekend’s stay (coupled with some quality family time)! My mom flew in from Oklahoma (where I was born and raised), and we made a fun girl’s weekend out of the trip, filled with lots of wedding to dos, dinners out on the town, and even a Broadway show! I walked into Kleinfeld’s with a handful of photographs of wedding dresses that were all completely and utterly different styles. I had a hard time expressing what I wanted to the sales representatives. but those Kleinfeld ladies sure did hit it out of the park! I felt so beautiful when I tried on my dress–I immediately knew it was the one!

What made you choose your ceremony and reception venues? Did they have any special significance to you? We got married in Naples, Florida, where we go every year for Thanksgiving! Brian has grown up going to Naples with his parents and grandparents. I have grown to adore the place–nothing beats the combination of sunshine, the beach, and family!

Did you decide to do a first look? Why or why not? We did not do a first look, and it was one of the easiest decisions of the whole wedding planning process, since it was one of Brian’s only real demands! Brian wanted the first time he saw me on our wedding day to be when I was walking down the aisle to meet him. If there is one thing my husband is not, it’s emotional, but as that moment was happening and I got closer to him, I saw that he was crying. He never, ever, ever cries, and it was one of the most special moments of the day.

My something borrowed was the most special “something.” Brian’s mother passed away after a long battle with cancer a few years ago. I didn’t get the opportunity to meet her, but he raised my husband into the man he is today, so I know she must have been an incredible woman. During my bridesmaids’ luncheon the day before the wedding, my two sister-in-laws gave me her wedding band as a gift for my something borrowed. I have worn it every day since the day I received it. My something old was a coin that my Nana, my mother, my sister, and I all wore in our shoes on our wedding days. I had to tape mine on the sole, since I wore sandals!

What is the one detail or vendor that you were so happy to have as a part of your wedding? Everyone was incredible, but I have to say my sister, Emily Collins. She did all of the calligraphy for the wedding, from the save the dates and invitations, to the place cards, to the beverage signs, to the escort sign, to the programs, to the welcome baskets, and much more (pretty much on every piece of stationery in my wedding!) She is a high-end interior designer and architect by trade, and it was so incredible to have a little piece of her in my wedding in these ways. I love her dearly and will be eternally jealous of her amazing artistic abilities!

Our favorite detail of the wedding was: We had real miniature pineapples above each place setting. It was such a small, discrete detail, but I was head over heels for them! What could possibly be cuter than 150 miniature pineapples? The answer is nothing.

We had two different types of wedding cake (for chocolate and vanilla lovers), and we also had yummy desserts served at the tables immediately following dinner. The desserts were very Florida-inspired–chocolate-covered strawberries, fresh fruit tarts, Key lime pie tarts, and cannolis. The Key lime pie tart was probably my favorite!

How did y’all meet? Tell us your love story. We first met on a double blind date on the night of the 2012 presidential election. We were inadvertently set up by one of my best friends and bridesmaids, Emily, and one of Brian’s fraternity brothers, Jake (we have to give credit where credit is due!). We were the only Republicans in the entire restaurant, so we ensured all of our drinks were sent to us red, infused with grenadine. While the night didn’t end well for us politically, professionally (hello, mini market crash), or physically (work was not fun the next morning), it did work out personally!
Tell us all about the proposal! Brian proposed to me on a summer night in August. He told me that he had made dinner reservations for us at Gibson’s, a Chicago favorite. As I began hailing a cab from our apartment to the restaurant, he grabbed my hand and started walking me down the street and across the Wells Bridge that extends over the Chicago River. He led me to the front of the restaurant and bar where we had first met two years before, and we sat on the patio for a drink before heading over to Gibson’s. After a delicious meal, we walked out of the restaurant, and he started directing me to an unknown location. We ended up on the Lake Michigan beach, with the beautiful Chicago skyline lit up behind us. Before I knew it, he was on one knee, asking me to marry him. It was beautiful, private, and perfect, and one of the happiest days of my life. After the proposal, he led me to a fancy schmancy hotel in downtown Chicago, complete with an overnight bag packed by one of my best girlfriends, rose petals, and a bottle of celebratory champagne. The room faced the water, so we watched the Navy Pier fireworks go off while excitedly calling all of our best friends and family members. The next morning, Brian took me to a surprise brunch, where all of our friends were anxiously waiting for us!
When did y’all get married? April 18, 2015
How many friends, family members, and loved ones attended your wedding? 150
What readings, if any, did you have at your ceremony? We had two readings: “A Marriage” by Mark Twain and Romans 12:1-2, 9-18.
Describe your wedding flowers. In one word, stunning! I might be a little biased, but they were the most beautiful florals I have ever seen! Bright, tropical, fun, flirty–exactly what I had envisioned!
What Southern details or traditions did you include in your celebration? What was Southern about your wedding? Plaid bow ties and navy suits, pink champagne and whiskey ginger signature cocktails, a stocked cigar bar cart with custom labels and match sets, and Southern Florida-inspired bright and bold florals, to name a few!
How did you plan for your marriage while planning your wedding? We moved cities (from Chicago to Columbus), got two new jobs, purchased a home together, and moved into said home, all while we were planning our wedding! It was an extremely busy time, but all of these moving parts were true blessings!
What advice do you have for folks currently planning a wedding? Don’t dwell in the details, enjoy every moment of the planning process, and approach the bumps in the road with a light heart–everything will end up as perfectly as you imagine!
What’s next for you as a couple? What memories are you looking forward to making together? Travel, settling into a new city, making new friends, and (of course) kids!

I love talking about weddings (probably a good thing, considering my job!), but when I scrolled through Jo and JT’s celebration, I found myself a bit speechless. It’s so evident that they were truly present as they became husband and wife–they soaked in and really felt every single moment. It’s breathtaking and inspiring to see, and I know y’all will love taking a peek into their special day as much as I did!

Didn’t Brandon Chesbro capture these moments perfectly? We’re so thrilled he shared Jo and JT’s wedding with us!

The venue that we chose was a private residence where my cousin grew up. The current owner doesn’t typically do weddings on her property, but when she found out about my family, she invited us to have the wedding there. It was so special to us to be married in such an intimate and gorgeous setting.

Did you decide to do a first look? Why or why not? JT and I decided to do a first look, mainly because we were both nervous, and we were able to ease each other’s nerves by getting to spend some time together before the ceremony. The few glasses of champagne we shared helped as well!

JT and I are both musicians, and it was important for us to use songs that were meaningful to us. Some of those songs included the Harry Potter theme song by John Williams, “There She Goes My Beautiful World” by Nick Cave, and a few Max Richter pieces. During the ceremony, my bandmate Louis Johnson sang “But Beautiful,” which is a special song for my dad and I.

What readings, if any, did you have at your ceremony? We had The Prayer of St. Francis read: “Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. O, Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love; For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; it is in dying to self that we are born to eternal life.”

What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? When JT and I sat down to eat brunch at the head table, we had a view of everyone sitting at their tables, laughing and sharing a meal. It was exactly what we had planned for our wedding day, and finally getting to see all of our loved ones in front of us was just perfect.

Our favorite detail of the wedding was the place cards. We had a poem from a book I bought JT for our one-year anniversary, “I Like You,” printed on them. It was a very special and personalized touch that meant a lot to us.

Having Brittany from Ring The Bell as our planner was such a treat. She made the day of our wedding stress-free and kept everything running smoothly. Since our wedding was very DIY-heavy, it was really nice to have someone there the day-of to make sure none of our details were overlooked.

What advice do you have for folks currently planning a wedding? Go easy on yourself. Don’t sweat the small stuff. At the end of the day, you are marrying your best friend and all of the rest is just icing on the cake…pun intended.

How did y’all meet? Tell us your love story. JT and I met at a 4th of July party in Nashville. I was new to town and didn’t know many people there. He had been a local for 10 years and quickly noticed the “new girl.” He had noticed some of his friends checking me out, but when no one made a move, he decided to introduce himself. We talked and flirted all night, and after some much-needed liquid courage, I decided to ask if he would take me on a motorcycle ride. I put my number in his phone, and we made plans to meet up later in the week. Since that night, I can’t think of a day that I haven’t talked to JT. I always think it’s corny when people say “love at first sight,” but JT and I knew quickly that we found something special.
Tell us all about the proposal! Our proposal was very intimate and special to us, so we’re keeping some of the details to ourselves. What I can tell you is that it was raining, JT was on one knee, and I cried. It was Halloween, so we went to Target afterwards to find finishing touches for our costumes. We ended the night with a bunch of friends at a dive bar in Nashville, dressed as Wednesday Addams and a hand grenade (JT is pretty inventive with his costumes). Of course, there was a lot of showing off the ring.

Tell us about finding your wedding dress. I didn’t do the typical dress hunt like most brides. My brothers-in-law actually found my skirt for me and had it shipped to my house! It fit perfectly and made the process really stress-free. I did go try on a few dresses at a store with a girlfriend as well, just for fun.
Did you write your own vows? If so, what was your favorite phrase, verse or line? We wanted to keep our vows traditional, but also specific to us. We wrote them with the help of our good friend and officiant, Raleigh McCool.
How did you plan for your marriage while planning your wedding? We joked to friends that our marriage counseling was watching the show Parenthood and discussing it after each episode. Our real marriage counseling was spending a lot of time with married couples that we respect and look up to.
If you are comfortable responding, what range did your wedding budget fall into? $10,000-$25,000
What was one way you saved money or cut costs at your wedding? JT and I didn’t feel we needed all of the bells and whistles to make our wedding special, which definitely helped us keep the cost down. Simple was best for us.
What’s next for you as a couple? What memories are you looking forward to making together? We are enjoying sharing our first holidays and birthdays as husband and wife, and are looking forward to all of those to come.

I don’t usually have the patience to sit through anything that lasts longer than five minutes. But as I started seeing the pictures and then this, I couldn’t stop! It all was above and beyond what I would expect. Your wedding planner went off the chart! And you and JT could never have, and never will, look any more in love! Loved all the colors and the flow of everything! May God Bless you both for ever and have everlasting “LOVE.”

When you get engaged at a State Fair, it seems only fitting that your wedding has the same amount of color, whimsy, and fun! Country club weddings occasionally get a bad rap for all looking the same or being too difficult to personalize, but I daresay that Brooke and Bryan blew that idea out of the water. With the help of their planner, Kim Bignon, and designer, Stacy Coon Stage, they turned the Orlando Country Club into a truly fabulous and colorful place to become husband and wife!

We’re so happy Amalie Orrange shared this celebration with us!

Tell us all about the proposal! One of our first “official” dates was to the State Fair of Texas in Dallas. Each year after that, we made sure to make at least one trip back to visit and snag a corndog. On our anniversary last year, Bryan convinced me that we were going to the fair to watch his dad receive an award. During our walk to “find his parents,” he stopped me in a garden, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him! After he proposed, he surprised me even more with a party, complete with our friends, his family, and most importantly, my family who had secretly flown in from Florida. We ended the night with the fair’s mascot, Big Tex, congratulating us. It was perfect!

Living in Dallas while my mom and sister were living in Orlando made wedding dress shopping a little tricky. We were lucky to find one weekend when everyone could be in Orlando together to speed-shop for dresses! I tried on dresses in three stores, and by the second store, I knew I had found the one. It was the perfect mix of several other dresses I had liked earlier in the day! Although it was a bit scary committing to a dress after only one day of searching, I knew it was the one when every dress I tried on afterwards didn’t even compare.

Did you decide to do a first look? Why or why not? Bryan and I chose not to do a first look before our wedding because we thought it would take away from the magical moment of walking down the aisle. Right before the ceremony, when the nerves were setting in, I thought it may have helped if I had seen him already. Walking down the aisle towards him was such an amazing moment though, and I am so glad we waited to see each other then.

Our favorite detail of the wedding was: Although it’s hard to pick just one detail, I think our favorite was our confetti exit. Our wedding designer, Stacy Coon, created the most elaborate and beautiful confetti bar where guests could make their own mix of confetti. There were about twenty varieties of confetti to choose from, including pieces with our pictures on them. As we made our exit, not only did our guests shower us with confetti, but there were also ten confetti cannons shot from the balcony above us. It was so much fun and made for great pictures!

Our ceremony and reception were both at the Country Club of Orlando, the country club I grew up attending. We initially wanted our ceremony to be in my parents’ backyard in Orlando, but due to the bugs and weather in Florida, we decided an indoor venue was a better choice. Since we couldn’t be in the backyard, the country club right down the block was the next best thing.

Our flowers were magnificent! Lana from Fairbanks Florist has been a long-time friend of the Bosserman family. She did an amazing job taking some of my weak ideas and turning them into beautiful floral pieces throughout the ceremony and reception venue. She made hundreds of arrangements in hues of red, pink, and white. Everywhere I looked, there was one (or ten!) of her masterpieces. One of the most special moments of the day was when she personally delivered my bouquet to me before the wedding. It was so special to receive my bouquet from a friend, who I know had worked so hard to make the day perfect for me!

Describe your wedding cake. Our cakes were absolutely gorgeous and, more importantly, delicious! Sugar Suite created the exact cake I had pictured in my head for months. The bride’s cake was eight tiers and had amazing red and pink sugar flowers running all the way down it. There were gold accents on the cake that matched the cake stand and sequin tablecloth. Bryan’s groom’s cake was a chocolate peanut butter cake in the shape of Texas with a replica of his favorite cowboy boots on top. The boots looked stunningly real. One of our favorite parts of our morning-after brunch on Sunday was eating leftover cake!

How did y’all meet? Tell us your love story. Bryan and I met in college through our roommates. I attended Baylor University and he attended Texas A&M. We attended several sorority and fraternity functions together before we started dating, almost ten months later. We lived in different cities for the first three years of our relationship, but finally both ended up in Dallas. We were in Dallas together for almost two years before we got engaged.

How many friends, family members, and loved ones attended your wedding? 270
Did you write your own vows? If so, what was your favorite phrase, verse or line? Neither of us are marvelous writers, so we opted for traditional vows. We also found something special in reciting vows that thousands of other couples have recited before us.
What readings, if any, did you have at your ceremony? We had readings from Proverbs and 1 John.
Tell us about some of the songs you used throughout your wedding and why you chose them. Bryan and I walked back up the aisle to “Cowboy Take Me Away” by the Dixie Chicks. My dad suggested this song because Bryan is quite the cowboy. We did our first dance to “Me and You” by Kenny Chesney. This song was sweet and country–our favorite! We also danced to “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” by Stevie Wonder to officially start the dance party.
What Southern details or traditions did you include in your celebration? What was Southern about your wedding? I think what was most Southern about our wedding was that it was very traditional. Our venue was the Country Club of Orlando, which was founded in 1911 and is very traditional in decor. Our ceremony was traditional in that we waited to see each other until I walked down the aisle, old hymns were sung, scripture was read, and traditional vows were said. At dinner, we sat our guests at long banquet tables, which created a warm and inviting environment, showing Southern hospitality. Bryan’s groom’s cake also had cowboy boots on top of it–can you get more Southern than that?
How did you plan for your marriage while planning your wedding? We planned for our marriage by attending an eight-week wedding prep class at Watermark Community Church in Dallas. We learned about roles in marriage, communication, finances, expectations, etc., in regards to our upcoming marriage and life together. It was a great way to have discussions on important topics that aren’t always the most fun to talk about, but that are so important when deciding to share your life with someone.
What advice do you have for folks currently planning a wedding? Find a solid team to help you. Whether it be friends and family who love doing DIY crafts or a team of trained professionals, don’t try to do it all yourself! Delegating tasks takes the stress off of you and allows you to enjoy the planning process.
What’s next for you as a couple? What memories are you looking forward to making together? When Bryan and I got back to Dallas after our honeymoon, we got right to work moving into a home we recently purchased together. For the next couple of months, we plan on finishing up house projects and making memories together with our friends and family in our new place. Our honeymoon to St. Lucia also inspired us to do some more traveling in the future.
