Psst… have you voted in the championship round of Mason-Dixon Madness yet? We’re revealing the winner later today!

Based on your survey feedback, we know that most of you prefer real weddings over styled shoots. And I have to say, I’m with you for the most part – especially because I see piles of submissions every week that are just so clearly not a fit for what we’re about. But I’m not ready to give up on inspirational editorials completely, because I still think, when done right, they can be both useful and, yep, inspiring. We don’t want or expect you to replicate every element from every shoot – but I do believe that every shoot has at least one takeaway for almost every couple.

Maybe one will introduce you to a vendor that perfectly clicks with your style. Maybe one will show you a new way to tie your bouquet or a clever idea for numbering your tables. Maybe you’ll spot your dream dress in one, or the perfect bow tie for your groom. Or, like me, maybe you love editorials because they introduce you to a part of the South you’re not familiar with – like this one, which takes us into the orange groves of Louisiana. I didn’t even know there were such things, but I’m so glad Blue Ribbon Vendor Sarah Becker Photo has shown me!

From the event planner and stylist, Brooke: Belle Chasse, Louisiana is the epitome of a small town! Everyone knows one another, stores are family-owned and you won’t find any tall buildings blocking your view of the sunset. Born and raised here, I’ve always admired the beauty of this small town, particularly the orange groves that blossom along the main road. As I began designing weddings, I knew I would jump at the chance to showcase this area! Then enters Sarah Becker Lillard. Sarah’s bubbly personality and enthusiasm at the idea of the orange grove shoot gave me the little push I needed to say “Let’s make this thing happen.” After meeting with Sarah to brainstorm on ideas for the shoot, the rest of the vendor team seemed like such an obvious choice.

I have admired Poppy & Mint since the first day I saw Destiny’s work. Julia, owner and event designer at Mrs. Vintage, fit the mold perfectly when I was looking for the props for the shoot. Her farm table, whiskey barrel and wooden crates were a clear part of my vision since Day 1. Her vintage sugar mold was the perfect piece to complete the main floral design!

Amanda, Hattiesburg-native and owner of Fine Print Calligraphy, adds a Southern touch to many of her designs. I knew she would design something that captivated the essence of the orange groves in Southern Louisiana. Amanda created custom ink colors for the calligraphy on the envelopes as well as the watercolor for the menu and invitation that gave the shoot that personal touch.

My favorite part of the shoot has to be the modeling debut of my two pups, Jake and Levi. It is amazing what a few pieces of ham as bribery can do.

Event Planner: Southern Charm Weddings | Photographer: Sarah Becker Photo | Floral Designer: Poppy & Mint | Stationery: Fine Print Calligraphy | Bridal Salon: Wedding Belles | Hair & Makeup: Chelsea Adam with Breck & Co. | Vintage Rentals: Mrs. Vintage | Cake Designer: The Sweet Life Bakery | Groom’s Suit: John’s Tuxedos | Chairs, Plates, and Flatware: Event Rental | Orange Groves: Saxon-Becnel & Sons |

Sarah Becker Photo and Mrs. Vintage are delightful members of our Blue Ribbon Vendor Directory!

This is a beautiful shoot and is close to my heart because I am born and raised in Plaquemines Parish. The stand that they are pictured in front of is actually my grandparents house not Saxons but Saxon’s brother Hewitt. It makes me happy to see my family and our farms displayed so beautifully. Thanks for the shout out to the citrus farmers and the inspiration for my possible future wedding.

Good morning, my dears! Emily and Marissa have had their turn sharing a little more of their style with our Dream Southern Summer Wedding series (here and here), so I’m excited to share mine with you! Don’t forget to keep an eye out for the rest of the SW gals’ dreamy ideas.

Summer is my very favorite season, so there’s no doubt I’ve been (secretly until now) dreaming up a wedding soiree based around my love for all citrus-colored things. In my mind, it looks like this:

Clockwise, from top left: Orange daiquiris via Pottery Barn, floral china photo by Emily Delamater, bouquet photo by Jose Villa, fabric favors photo by Melissa Jill Photography via Ruffled, bridesmaids dresses photo by Erik Ekroth via Style Me Pretty, oranges centerpiece photo by The Nichols via Southern Weddings, pinwheel photo by Tanja Lippert via Southern Weddings, ceremony photo by The Nichols via Southern Weddings.

The feel: Warm, vibrant and fun with a spin — think picnic meets black tie. We’ll say our vows by the lake and move in to the lawn for the reception. Though picnic blankets will be laid out across the lawn in lieu of tables, string lights, a black and white checkered dance floor and formal attire will dress the shindig up. The whole event will glow from the sunset.

The place: On the lawn by the water, so the light breeze blows through the ceremony and keeps everyone cool.

The time: 6:00 pm in early September, just in time for us to turn on the string lights as the reception begins and the sun goes down.

The style: Though I’ve yet to decide what I’m going to wear, I know my bridesmaids will be donning multicolored dresses, with my maid of honor in a pretty floral pattern, like the photo from my color inspiration. Though a laid-back picnic reception follows the ceremony, I plan to outfit the bridal party in formal floor length gowns (in breathable fabric, I promise!) and sharp grey suits with red suspenders.

The food: I have a much-warranted love for food trucks, so I’d have a selection of three lined up near the picnic area for guests to take their pick from. Of course, there will be classic North Carolina BBQ, savory pies and seafood. For dessert, my beau and I will cut into a cake for everyone to pair with the flavor of their choice from the ice cream truck!

The music: I loved how festive but relaxed the jazz bands were when I was in New Orleans, so I think a live jazz band with some soulful brass notes would be the perfect touch for this outdoor wedding. Of course, we’ll all dance under string lights!

The flowers: A happy mix of poppies and garden roses. My bouquet will be a slightly wild arrangement, with jasmine vine (my favorite!) sprouting from the sides. At the reception, small glass vases will hold single garden roses with a little bit of greenery to decorate the guest book table, the drinks station and the bourbon bar.

What do you think, ladies? What would YOUR dream Southern summer wedding look like?

It’s gray and dreary where we are today, but nothing, I repeat nothing, can dim the lights on our next stunning V5 editorial!! For this one, photographed to perfection by KT Merry, we were inspired by the colorful world of Lilly Pulitzer and the original Palm Beach juice stand that inspired their entire brand.

Claudia from Fig. 2 Design | Studio started things off on a perfectly cheery note with her bright stationery suite. I love that she was inspired by vintage striped beach umbrellas! The beautiful calligraphy is by Meant to Be Calligraphy.

We were lucky to work with an awesome bride and groom (pros this time!) who fit our style to a tee! And let’s all take a moment to pause and admire the jaw-dropping hand-painted backdrop that Kristy Rice of Momental Designs made for us! LOVE! Finally, we can’t ignore the awesome outfits, pulled together in perfectly preppy fashion by stylist David Fittin.

Hello, lovely lady! Alex, Shannon, and Laurie Ann modeled our Lilly Pulitzer dresses to perfection!

And let’s also take a moment and give some HUGE kudos to Matthew of 50Fifty Creative Services, who created the STUNNING florals throughout this shoot! Y’all, I know I sound over the top, but aren’t they amazing?

Our beautiful table was set in the courtyard of the Brazilian Court. Its octagonal shape was perfect for this shoot, especially since it reminded me of the stationery suite! And be sure to look out below for the custom linens, designed for us by Nuage Designs. Aren’t those corners and contrast piping gorgeous?

Love all the citrus accents! The little place cards, also by Fig. 2 | Design, are too cute :)

And now, the piece de resistance: our very own “juice” stand, set on the lawn of the Boca Raton Resort & Club. And yes, we had juice, but we also squeezed in fancy popsicles from Tropipops, popsicle cocktails, mini key lime pies, mini milkshakes, cupcake pushpops by Cupcakes Couture, and tons of other sweets dreamed up by Chocolate Pi! Our AMAZING planner and stylist, Anna from Lucia Paul Design, created the stand from scratch in addition to pulling the rest of the shoot details together!

Too sweet, am I right? Have a very colorful day, y’all, and be sure to check back later today for a bright giveaway and a behind the scenes video!

KT Merry is a fabulous member of our Blue Ribbon Vendor Directory!
