Happy Birthday, Marissa!

by in Main on

Today is our lovely Marissa‘s birthday! Y’all already know and love our stylish, monogram-wearing, Crimson Tide-loving advertising director, and in honor of her special day, we thought we’d share a few of our favorite memories with this amazing gal. Wishing you the happiest of birthdays, Marissa!

From Morgan: I love how genuine Marissa is! She is one of the friendliest people I have ever met and I think she could talk to anyone for hours on end. My favorite memory of Marissa is snuggling up to her all evening at the V7 launch party. At both our team photo shoot and the launch party, we ended up next to each other, striking our best poses. I think we have the “hand-on-the-arm” pose down pat, M!

From Emily: My favorite memories of Marissa are the many times over the years when I’ve gotten to sit in her “stylist’s chair.” She’s done my hair and/or makeup for almost every big SW event since she joined the team! In addition to looking better thanks to her skills, I love the time getting beautified gives us to chat together. Just like all good friends (and Marissa is a good friend to many), we pick right back up where we left off every time.

From Lisa: My favorite “memory” of Marissa is really more like a bunch of little memories—our email gush-fests over sweet (and tear-inducing) real weddings, swooning over really amazing fashion together, and sending her picture texts after I go to the hair stylist to make sure I look okay. You are always and forever fabulous, Marissa, and I’m so thankful for you!!

From Lara: My favorite memory of Marissa is her very first email to me years ago. I had written about blog post that she resonated with and she took a leap of faith to email me about it. Somehow, I knew we’d work together after that first virtual interaction. That memory sticks out to me because her passion for people and expressing her genuineness hasn’t faded over these years. Marissa has a Southern heart of gold!

From Kristin: I think our trip to Bridal Market in 2012 stands out above all other great memories I have with Marissa. Although a tried-and-true Southern girl, Marissa navigated NYC like she lived there–dragging me all across the city, hailing cabs and hopping from one side of town to the other with ease and grace. I remember being utterly amazed at her sense of self, her fortitude, her ability to work a room, and her uncanny ability to remember EVERYONE’s name and face. I think one of the biggest reasons we get along like peas and carrots is that between the two of us, we’ve never met a stranger! Happy Birthday, MAK!

From Nicole: My favorite memory of Marissa is from three years ago. We had just implemented weekly team meetings, and lucky for all of us, Marissa lived in North Carolina and was able to come in person to all of them. We hadn’t spent much time together at that point, but she made such an impression on me as a then-undergrad student. Her presentations to all of us on ad sales and new ideas were always thoughtful and snazzy-looking. Her big personality and confidence brought so much energy to the conference table (a.k.a. Lara’s dining room table). She instantly became like a big sister of the group, and even though all of our roles and relationships to each other have changed a lot since then, I still always think of her as the cool big sister who can just as easily give you fashion advice as business advice, and who encourages you to take leaps when you’re nervous. (See: V7 Launch Party, when Marissa made me hold Emerson as we waited in line for the photo booth, despite my terrified protests.) :)

Please help us wish Marissa a very happy birthday in the comments below! :)

For us at Southern Weddings, one of the best parts of the new year is meeting new, freshly-engaged brides! We love when y’all come to us early in the planning process, because it gives us a chance to point you toward a few of our favorite resources. Our Newly Engaged page and Wedding Planner are at the top of the list, but we also love introducing you to (or in this case, reminding you of) some of our favorite brands, like David’s Bridal! Their Spring 2015 collection of wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses is out, and it’s beautiful!

Of course, SW readers are likely already familiar with DB, since many of our lovely brides have worn their designs:

Samantha (Perry Vaile), Kimberly (Michelle Boyd), Kortney (Emily Weis), and Lindsay (Jen Fariello)

David’s Bridal just debuted their Spring 2015 line of wedding and bridesmaid dresses, and we want to make sure you’ve taken a peek before you head out shopping, mamas and sisters in tow!

The new collection includes many of the details we saw on the runway at Bridal Market this fall, including elaborate and inventive backs, beautiful lace, and mixed media fabrications.

Since we had so much fun poring over the new designs, we thought we’d pick a few favorites for you! Here are the SW gals top picks from the collection:

Love these gowns? Find them on the David’s Bridal website! Emily’s pick / Lisa’s pick / Nicole’s pick / Morgan’s pick / Marissa’s pick / Kristin’s pick

You can find all of these and many more right here! Don’t forget to take a peek at David’s Bridal’s new bridesmaid options, as well – this spring they’re debuting four new pastels, one neon, and three new laces (rose gold, silver, and champagne), bringing their number of hues to 53!

Happy shopping, belles!

This post is brought to you by David’s Bridal–thanks for your support of the brands that make Southern Weddings possible!

Love to see how DB develops their designs each year. Love the blush chiffon over the white in the very first gown, adds color and volume without being too large.

Any hints as to when their fall collection will be out? I’ve heard June, but am looking to get a preview of what they have! I love their Spring 2015 collection, but am hoping for some warmer fall colors for my September 2015 wedding!

There were so many beautiful styles this year! Meredith’s Monique Lhuillier is my favorite.
