Southern Weddings Weekly Round-Up

by in Main on

Happy New Year, dear friends! I don’t know about you guys, but I have great feelings about 2012. Our blog features started off better than ever after a week of reviewing the Best of 2011.

We started the New Year off with a bright winter beach inspiration board. Soft hues and a sweet celebration make for a serene wedding!

As we’re getting into the full swing of 2012, we thought it would be more than appropriate to have our favorite guest columnist, Katie from Marriage Confessions back! She shared her fun perspective on New Year’s resolutions.

Y’all, we’re giving away two tickets to The Cream Austin! This bridal show is chock full of fun details and delicious eats among other surprises — and all with a Southern twist! Go to this post for more details and the chance to win!

Emily’s planning a wedding and filling us in on all the details! This week, we get to see what she has in mind for her big rentals. My favorite part? The Sperry tent!

We had a lot of fun this week putting together a three-part “Ask the Experts” series on winter wedding inspiration for one of our readers. Madi has always wanted a summer barn wedding, but may have to plan a winter one instead. She wants to be sure that the warmth of Southern hospitality remains strong! In Part I, Emily started off by providing a rustic, but elegant inspiration board.

Marissa walked us through the basics of winter fashion in Part II. We love the fur stoles, dainty gloves and love-sleeved gowns that are practical for cold-weather weddings.

Lastly, I rounded up some of my favorite finds and DIY projects in Part III. These ideas are sure to create the warm atmosphere and cozy comfort guests are looking for in Southern hospitality!

This week’s featured Real Wedding Gallery was Meredith + Blake. Romance and whimsy are abundant in this Texas wedding!

If you missed it, last week’s featured Real Wedding Gallery was Ashley + Patrick. We love the feminine details and elegant garden theme!

Real Weddings make our hearts sing!

We can’t get enough of the colorful details from Alex + Paul’s spring wedding. Yummy food and garden-like tablescapes win us over every time. See it all here and here.

If you missed it, we featured a sparkly and exciting New Years Eve wedding last week! The winter details and candlelight are to die for! See it here and here.

2012 brings wonderful things!

Did you get engaged over the holidays? You should enter High Cotton’s campaign to be crowned “Mr. and Mrs. High Cotton!” Before the competition ends on February 29, submit an essay and photo to High Cotton for the chance to win up to $1200 High Cotton products to dress your gents for your wedding! Take a look at their site for more details and an entry form. Good luck!

The Girl in the White Dress, Kelly Sauer’s wedding-specific branch of photography, is giving away TWO free 2012 weddings! Each wedding will include an engagement session, 6-8 hours of wedding coverage, 300-350 images, a one-of-a-kind proof book, a web album, and a DVD with the digital proofs. Go to Kelly’s blog for more details!

Macon’s Wedding Ring is having a bridal show! If you’re in the middle-Georgia area, be prepared for food, music, prizes, and a chance to meet wedding professionals! Check out the website for more information.

We’re happy to share the story of “The Fifty Nifty“. Paper Antler photographers Johnny and Michelle Hoffner will tour the US, photographing 50 weddings in 50 states in just 50 weeks all to raise $50,000 to benefit She Dances, a Birmingham-based human trafficking charity. Check out their YouTube video and follow their blog for updates on their tour!

Happy Weekend, lovies!

Southern Weddings Weekly Round-Up

Hello from Charleston! Emily, Sierra and I are here for a wedding this weekend and I’m really excited to get to know the city a little better. Sierra and I made it through the evening drive with the help of some Tootsie Rolls and Wendy’s and now I’m happy to present to you this week’s Round-Up!

In honor of Halloween, Emily put together a Southern Gothic inspiration board with the perfect combination of elegance and the eerie Old South.

This week’s Southern Fab Find reminds me of the best of Southern style — the great mix of pretty dresses and easy-going details. Peach Tree Lane’s jewelry combines all of those things! Go to this post to enter to win a set of their earrings.

We couldn’t help ourselves — there are two giveaways this week! Our favorite Southern bows from V4 are now up for grabs and you have the chance to win five of your choice! Go to this post to enter.

When Southern met Nantucket in this Southern by Design feature, pops of blue and red stole our hearts. This shoot dreamed up by Desiree Spinner and photographed by Trent Bailey brings together the best of the North and South!

Emily’s Southern Spotting induced a growl in my tummy, y’all. Doesn’t this banana pudding in lieu of a wedding cake look delicious?

The next installment of “Emily Plans a Wedding” brought details of her bridemaids’ dresses. We’re totally digging the flowing floor-length inspiration she gathered up!

Southern Hospitality strikes again! This time, Courtney Caplan and Sarah Miller of Caplan Miller Events helped up put together a goodie bag full of Austin’s best.

You’ve seen me and Marissa try to plan our dream wedding and it’s harder than it looks! Now take a gander into what Sierra’s dreaming up for her big day.

This week’s featured Real Wedding Gallery was Heather + Sam. I died over their sweet paper products and gorgeous flowers.

Real Weddings make us happy

Jamie + Dan’s intimate outdoor wedding at the Historic Cedarwood included wildflower and hummingbird details that made us feel right at home. See more of it here and here.

Time for more good news!

Can’t get enough of Emily’s wedding planning? Check out the interview she did with Oh Lovely Day!

Men’s Wearhouse is currently hosting their Well-Dressed Man Facebook contest! Brides, submit a photo of your fiancé looking his best so that Facebook users can “like” their favorite entrant. At the close of the contest on November 17, the photo with the most “likes” will win $2,500 to spend at Men’s Wearhouse! See more details here.

Have you entered our HUGE photo contest yet? Find a V4 and tweet and email us your photos! We can’t wait to see your creative entries! Take a look at some of the competition here.

Have a wonderful weekend, y’all! We’ll see you on Monday!

Oh, y’all. You are so good to us. The blush on our cheeks keeps getting redder and redder — your feedback on our fourth volume of Southern Weddings has been tremendous! Everyday, we exchange a ton of emails squealing about how great our readers, sponsors, and collaborators are. We love you all like a million Reese’s cups! (That’s saying a lot. Have you seen the SW girls around some Reese’s? Probably not because we eat them too quickly.) Check out our big thank you post!

To start off the week, we had to show you SWPS, V4 Style! We package every mailing by hand in our little office. This year, we had about 500 pre-orders to get out in just a couple of days!

We couldn’t have been happier for Tuesday, V4 release day, to come around! Y’all know that means a Giant Photo Contest! Find V4 in stores (or order online to have it shipped via SWPS), take a photo with your glossy new magazine and then tweet it (@iloveswmag) and email it to us. Five winners will get to choose from some fabulous prizes we’ll putting together!

With V4 on shelves, we had to post photos from our Southern by Design spread! Southern met Minnesota in this shoot by Maddy of The Inspired Bride and Paper Antler Photography. We’re crazy for the details like the blooms from Studio Fleurette, paper products by Amy Hardy and treats from Shauna Younge.

It’s giveaway madness this week! Sierra and I were giddy to attend the Design*Sponge book signing at Anthropologie, where we met Amy Azzarito and snagged a photo with Grace Bonney. After, we had our first V4 sighting at Barnes & Noble! In celebration of all new publications, we’re giving away a signed copy of Design Sponge at Home. Tell us where you found V4 for the chance to win!

The V4 gorgeousness continues with a Southern by Design feature where Southern meets Southern California. This punch inspired shoot brings a pop of color, a twist of modernization, and the cutest details you ever did see.

Food is at the heart of the best Southern traditions! This week in the Newlywed Kitchen, one of Marissa’s oldest and dearest friends shared her recipe for Pumpkin Cupcakes. It’s so good, it won her first place at the Greater Gulf State Fair when she was 10! That’s good cookin’, y’all.

This week’s featured Real Wedding Gallery was Meghan + Chris! Their creative mason jar escort cards and delicious-looking cake had us at hello.

Who’s up for some fun announcements?

This winter, The Clifton Inn in Charlottesville, Virginia is giving the ultimate gift to the wedding couple: the entire selection of guestrooms — up to 17 of them — are included at no charge with weddings that take place at The Clifton Inn from from December 2011 through mid-March 2012. To learn more about this offer for your friends and family, visit their site.

The St. Regis Atlanta introduces their new one-of-a-kind registry, St. Regis-try. The service for couples, friends and families offers opportunities for guests of the St. Regis Atlanta to register for and purchase custom experiences for their weddings, honeymoons, or bridal showers. The St. Regis-try makes gift giving easy by offering the opportunity to contribute to a series of memorable experiences at The St. Regis Atlanta during a guest’s stay ranging from dining to spa packages to extended overnight accommodations. To find out more, visit their site!

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Spot a V4? Tell us where you found it and be sure to follow us on Twitter and join the fun on Facebook!
