Happy Fourth of July, ladies + gents! We hope you’re celebrating with your families, eating barbecue (whether you like it Memphis style, Western North Carolina style, or Eastern North Carolina style, like me!), diving into some red velvet cake and heading out for fireworks this evening. We’ll see you back here tomorrow with our regular posts, but in the meantime, lots of love from the SW crew!

The Kentucky Derby is this weekend! Before you run off to dig out your largest sunhat and pluck some fresh mint leaves, sit back for a minute and soak in some run for the roses inspiration.

Vintage trophy cups, a brilliant red rose bouquet, chilled mint juleps, a merry Sperry tent set next to the racetrack… I’d say this is beautiful inspiration for a Southern wedding!

Confession: I loved the derby inspiration board posts from last year so much that I have been seriously looking forward to what y’all would come up with this year! So, so gorgeous, and the perfect classic inspiration for a Southern wedding!

Just wanted to add in that my amazing bridesmaids through me a GORGEOUS shower that was derby-inspired. It was so much fun, and all of the guests were remarking on how unique it was. I am a professional rider, so it fit my passion perfectly. All of the guests were instructed to come dressed in their best derby outfits, complete with the hats! It was so much fun… I think it would be great to do a column on shower themes :) Keep up the great work, this site is my fave for planning… I will be leaving you all very soon, however, as I am getting married in just NINE days! ( and 2 hours and 58 minutes, but who’s counting??) wooohoo!

That sounds awesome, Stephanie! Good luck with these last few days pre-wedding, but don’t feel like you have to leave us right away!! :)

I seem to be going all summery for my last few inspiration boards, don’t I? I assure you, I’m not trying to hurry spring along – I’m loving the mid-70s temps we’ve been having, and am most certainly not ready to leave them behind for the humid 90s we’ll have in just a few weeks!

Despite all this, I’m pretty happy with this inspiration board and color palette based around key lime pie. By the way, I think key lime pie is a candidate for a future Southern Delicacy post, don’t you?

P.S. Have an idea for a Southern Inspiration Board? Let me know in the comments and I’ll whip one up for you!

Y’all do the best job with these inspiration boards! Of course, I always love the Derby ones… I’d love to see a series inspired by southern authors: Tennessee Williams, William Faulkner, Truman Capote, the list goes on and on.

Hi Elizabeth! As a former English major, I love that idea! I think I’ve already got an idea for our next one…
