When I was little, my family used to go the beach every summer. We used to spend hours on the weathered dock behind the house watching the sun set, watching fish swim and enjoying the air. There’s nothing quite like spending the end of the day outside by the water, which is why I am positive that the guests at Turner + Forrest’s wedding were extra thrilled to celebrate that way with the newlyweds. Of the details, the walkway lit with potted hydrangeas, the silver platter the cake sat on and the boat full of the Gulf’s best shrimp top my list. How about you?

What Southern details or traditions did you include in your celebration? What was Southern about your wedding? I had cotton in my bouquet and we served Southern food like fried oysters and shrimp served in wooden boats.
Describe your wedding cake or dessert: The bride’s cake was lemon flavored and the groom’s cake, which was a surprise to him) was a chocolate cake shaped like a gator.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? Living eight hours from the wedding location.
What is the one thing you are most happy you splurged on? My wedding dress.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? Walking down the isle and seeing Forrest. He cried.
What advice do you have for folks currently planning a wedding? Enjoy every minute of it!
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? We’re living in Florida and working for Younglife. We’re looking forward to getting settled in a normal routine.

What a gorgeous wedding! I love all of it! Any idea where the lanterns came from? We are doing a similar look for our wedding day (also blue and white) and have been searching for lanterns everywhere. I have found black and plan on spray painting them, but would love to just find a white option. Thanks!

    • avatar Emily reply

Hi Crystal! In my experience, these lanterns aren’t easy to find at a good price point online, but they’re pretty easy to find in stores. I found a similar (white) style at Walmart last year, and I’ve also seen similar designs at Ikea and Carolina Pottery (not sure if they have CP where you live…). I’d also try Pier 1 or Cost Plus World Market. I hope that helps — best of luck!

Shannon + Chris added a nautical touch to their preppy Southern fete with a reception at the Annapolis Yacht Club. (Currently dying a slow, happy death at the sight of the seersucker suit and pastel striped tie.) The flag pennants, bold colors and lush hydrangeas remind me of another sea-inspired wedding we recently featured. (P.S. It’s Emily’s sister, Kate!) For more from this cheery Maryland wedding, visit Kristen Hudson-Nichols‘ blog post here!

What Southern details or traditions did you include in your celebration? Our wedding theme was preppy chic. We focused the celebration on family, food, and tradition. We had a traditional Christian ceremony officiated by the same Reverend who baptized my little brothers. The ring bearers wore boat shoes and the wedding party wore J. Crew seersucker suits and dresses.
Describe your wedding flowers: My bouquet was made of white and green hydrangeas. The bridesmaids had white hydrangeas.
Describe your wedding cake: We did cupcakes with our initials and Swiss dots in lieu of a wedding cake. We cut the grooms cake, instead, which was shaped like a pizza in honor of Chris’s second love in life
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? Walking down the aisle with my dad. Chris said it was his favorite moment seeing me walk down and it was my favorite moment seeing him standing there with tears in his eyes. Also, my second favorite moment of the weekend was that my dad, who is a pilot for Southwest Airlines, surprised me and flew my plane from Tampa to MD for the wedding.
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? We are working hard and playing hard. We hope to start a family in the next couple of years.

Beautiful wedding! Can you tell me where the pink, green, and yellow striped tie came from?!

    • avatar Katharine reply

Hi DeAnna! We loved that tie, too! Em + I are pretty sure it’s a guest’s tie, so we don’t have the specific vendor info on it, but I DO know that I just found a very similar one for Mr. Kyle at a Brooks Brothers outlet. (75% off, naturally.) Happy hunting!

Can we all just agree that Leigh’s wedding up-do is simply stunning?  Stunning!  Now that that’s settled, we can focus on the awesome details from Leigh + Jeff’s celebration at the Biltmore Estate.  Joey + Jessica Seawell photographed the lovely couple, and Melissa Porter of the Asheville Event Company planned the traditional North Carolina wedding.  The bride wore a dramatic Carolina Herrera gown (with a to-die-for train!), and her maids wore a mix of hydrangea-blue frocks from J. Crew.  Of course, there’s an equally amazing reception waiting for you this afternoon!

How did the two of you meet?  Tell us your story.  A mutual friend suggested we meet.  We were living in Washington, but were both originally from North Carolina.
Describe your wedding cake: We had a hazelnut cake with vanilla pastry cream, and a white cake with buttercream and raspberry preserve filling.  We had topiary leaves made from sugar paste, decorated the cake with hydrangea accents.  The pastry chef at the Biltmore was amazing!
