Hi, friends! The V5 engine is humming steadily in our office! We’ve completed seven (7!!) photo shoots so far, and we have three more coming up before the end of August. The completed images have started rolling back in from photographers, too – I always know when one arrives in the daily mail haul because of the excited squeals!

I wanted to give you a little sneak peek at a shoot we produced a few weeks ago at the beautiful Tuckahoe Plantation in Richmond, Virginia. It was an extremely HOT day – about 95 degrees and sunny – as evidenced by the sleepy dogs and cats we found all over the property.

Our cast of characters for this shoot included a professional model, Chelsea, as well as three Southern Weddings readers! One of them — Marissa — has actually modeled for us once before, in last year’s polo shoot. (Yes, she got to wear the famous skirts!) She’s a total pro by now!

We were also reunited with part of our fabulous team from last year’s Williamsburg shoot, Courtney from Merriment Events and Katie Stoops! We’re very fancy, with our dish towel shade screen and all :) Also, aren’t the gardens at Tuckahoe just gorgeous?

Fun fact: Courtney headed out to a nearby farm the day before the shoot to gather extra hydrangea when our floral order didn’t arrive as planned. The blooms were so beautiful, and we loved that they came from a local farmer!

P.S. Want more V5 sneak peek goodness?

P.P.S. Want to reserve your ad spot in Southern Weddings V5? Just shoot Marissa an email! In fact, we’re running a special right now in honor of National Pecan Pie Day! :)

Hi Jaime! Yes, that dress is Monique Lhuillier, and I believe the style name is “Devotion.” Hope that helps! You can see the full post here: http://iloveswmag.com/2012/02/08/dreamy-watercolor-wedding-by-tec-petaja/

Melissa + Eric were college sweethearts who met as teenagers at camp. After reuniting with Melissa in Nashville and proposing on campus under a gazebo, translating the Southern romance into Southern wedding style looks practically effortless. Ribbon details looked marvelous swaying in the wind and even better dressed up with calligraphy! Melissa’s sister wrote “Love in the Life – That is Paradise” on the ribbon wrapped around Melissa’s white rose bouquet. We love how easy it was to personalize, but how sweet it looks! From the flower girl’s banner to the vine-draped altar, Melissa’s + Eric’s ceremony sings sweet Southern love. We can’t thank Phindy Studios enough for sending this one our way!

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. We met way back when I was 15, and Eric was 16. I traveled with a group from my home on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, to volunteer at a camp in Indiana for adults with mental disabilities. Eric had been volunteering there for several years. When my family decided to move to Nashville a few months later, I was thrilled- 5 hours to Indy was a lot better than 13! We dated long distance for years, driving back and forth once a month until Eric was able to transfer to my university in Nashville. As we continued to spend time together, everything we’d come to love about the other person was confirmed tenfold.
Describe the proposal. Back during our freshman year apart, Eric and I took a walk around Belmont University’s campus. We sat in one of their beautiful gazebos, and he looked me in the eye and promised he’d find a way to make it to Nashville. Sure enough, four years later, he led me to sit in that same gazebo as he went down on one knee to ask me to be his wife!
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Sweet, romantic, and uniquely ours!
In what month did you get married? September
How many guests attended your wedding? 120 – Almost entirely family!
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: The calligraphy my sister did for the ribbon wrapping our bouquets. The lyrics, “Love in the Life – That is Paradise” have a lot of meaning for Eric and me.
Did you write your own vows? If so, what was your favorite phrase, verse or line? We went traditional and used Lutheran marriage vows, but wrote our own words for our ring exchange. I loved Eric’s line that stated “I commit to center my life in Christ in order to love you.” He says his favorite words from me were, “I commit myself to you with wholehearted love and joy.”
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: I got quite lucky with my dress! I had my heart set on a designer that was very expensive. As I tried those dresses on, the sales girl slipped in a similar looking design from a different designer – and at a third of the price! I fell in love with it instantly, and with a few changes I made, like the sash, it was perfect.

There are so many gorgeous Southern wedding ideas to be gleaned from Victoria + Michael’s celebration! Not the least of which, is how to still look graceful and elegant in the sweltering Southern summer heat. Step one, I gather? Choose a light-as-air Delphine Manivet gown. It also helps to have good-natured guests like those of V + M, who will still pull Christmas crackers and don crowns even in 95+ degree heat. Thanks to Amber Karson Events for planning, and Brian Tropiano for capturing, all of the gorgeous pink and gray details!

Our favorite detail of the wedding was: My family is British, and at Christmas, our table is set with Christmas crackers that contain a joke, a trinket and a paper crown that you pull apart with the person sitting next to or opposite you. We had our wonderful calligrapher write guests’ names on silver Christmas crackers and we used them as place settings. It was joyful to look around at dinner and see friends and family celebrating with paper crowns on their heads.
Describe your wedding cake: Michael and I really wanted pies at the wedding, so we decided to have a small cake, mainly for us to cut, and a number of our favorite pies (apple, blueberry and strawberry-rhubarb) for guests. At our tasting, we nearly changed our mind because the raspberry-cream cake that Windows Catering made us was amazing. We ended up sticking with the pies, though. However, shortly after the cake cutting we got pulled away to take photos and didn’t get to have more than a bite of cake. We’re planning to order some for our first anniversary to make up for it!
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? The late-breaking news that it wouldn’t just be hot, but that it would be the hottest day in the Washington area in over a decade. Having to adjust on the fly to make sure guests were as comfortable as possible at our outdoor wedding and that the ceremony could proceed as planned was a challenge. Thanks to our great wedding planners, who knew exactly how many industrial-sized fans we could plug into each outlet and who came up with the wonderful idea of handing out chilled towelettes, some late purchases of extra parasols and fans, and the great attitude of our guests, we managed.
What is the one thing you are most happy you splurged on? Brian Tropiano, our photographer, was amazing to work with and captured the particulars and the spirit of the wedding.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? It was so touching having our friends and family play such an important role in our ceremony. Good friends and family did readings and both Michael’s mother and one of the groomsmen and his girlfriend sang us songs.
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? We are looking forward to a honeymoon early next year that will take us from winter in Washington to a romantic getaway in Paris followed by an island vacation in the Seychelles.

What a beautiful wedding!! I totally felt in love with one of the picture above and I was wondering who I should ask permission from to be able to use it on my website (which is under construction right now).
Please if you could get back to me to let me know, that would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you so much!
