The week of your wedding, chances are, you probably won’t want to worry about much other than the main event. While this may make the idea of throwing a bridesmaid luncheon less than appealing, with a little bit of forethought and a few easy tricks up your sleeves, a bridesmaid luncheon can become one of the wedding week memories you’ll cherish most. It’s the perfect opportunity to step away from last minute to-dos and focus on being grateful for the way your bridesmaids have loved and supported you, and since graciousness is always a do in our book, we teamed up with Freixenet to share some of our best tips for throwing a sweet and stress-free celebration!

1. Choose a few special details: You don’t need to go all out for this more low-key celebration–instead, choose a color scheme and stick to a handful of thoughtfully selected decor pieces and accents. A spring-inspired floral arrangement, striking black mini bottles of Freixenet, and a mix of pastel striped straws were all we needed on our bar cart to make this luncheon feel like an extra special occasion.

2. Get everyone involved: The bridesmaid luncheon is the perfect time to do a cake pull! Originating in the Victorian era and most popular in New Orleans, this tradition has become widespread across the South, and it is one of our very favorites. Silver charms attached to ribbons are placed under the cake, and the charm each gal pulls reveals her “fortune,” for things like a life of adventure, good luck, or even being the next to tie the knot!

3. Give a gift: Take a little bit of pressure off of the rehearsal dinner and wedding morning by giving your bridesmaids their gifts at the luncheon, where they’ll have time to open and enjoy whatever you’ve selected to thank them. Along with fun surprises, we love this idea of including a few practical items as well, to help get them through the wedding day. This cute gift box included a mini bottle of Freixenet, healthy snacks, a water bottle, bobby pins, a nail file, Band Aids, and a cocktail ring!

    I am definitely throwing a bridesmaid luncheon! Many people think I shouldn’t throw it myself and that it should be thrown in honor of my bridesmaids and me by a cousin or family friend. What is the etiquette here?

      Hi Elizabeth! Traditionally, a bridesmaid luncheon is hosted by the bride as a sweet way to thank her bridesmaids for their love and support, so you can certainly host it yourself :)

We love when brides outside of the South (who may or may not have roots beneath the Mason-Dixon line) bring a little Southern flair to their wedding celebrations. Christina, who lived in Charleston while her fiance attended The Citadel, loved the tradition she saw down South of honoring her best ladies, and wanted to treat them to a bridesmaid luncheon before her wedding. With a little assistance from a Southern friend who flew from Georgia to snowy Minnesota to help, she did just that! Hugs to Jenna Walker for these lovely photos!

For the table, we used my three sets of china: the set my grandmother passed down to me (blue), the set my mom passed down to me (pink) and my brand new set (Larabee Road by Kate Spade)!

For the menu, we served fried chicken, chicken salad, pimento cheese sandwiches, and mini cucumber silver dollar sandwiches with peach champagne bellinis and cucumber water.

The cake was designed by Gateaux Inc and it was pink lemonade with whipped cream and fresh strawberries. The cake pull was so much fun and definitely the main event of the luncheon! We had never done it before, so as you can see, I read from an outline as to what each bridesmaid had to look forward to in her future. There was actually one of the worst blizzards we have ever experienced the weekend of the luncheon and my wedding, so my flowers never came in — luckily our florist had bunches of tulips available for the luncheon, and one of my florist friends drove other flowers from Minnesota to Wisconsin the next day for my wedding!

Every corner of the South has a unique personality, and we like celebrating them all! On Fat Tuesday, New Orleans and its fabulously rich Mardi Gras history is an easy pick. From the colors to the symbols, every aspect of Mardi Gras has tradition and meaning, making it ripe with inspiration for a bold and vibrant wedding! The team, lead by Ashley from The Graceful Host, chose two dresses by Modern Trousseau from Hayden Olivia Bridal. Both were full volume and totally glam, just like Mardi Gras! They also included a cathedral-length veil, a classic choice for New Orleans brides, many who marry in grand cathedrals.

Separk Mansion, a newly renovated home, was the perfect backdrop. With Mardi Gras as their inspiration, the team chose to infuse the energy and fun of carnival season into the floral design while still keeping the overall look formal, like a Mardi Gras ball.

Classic New Orleans delicacies like mini muffulettas were served.

Love this ruffled cake linen, inspired by the bride’s gown! Sweets were in no short supply, from the tiered cake to beignet truffles. Of course, the team had to include the cake pull tradition, a New Orleans staple!

Being that I was born and raised in New Orleans, I jumped at the opportunity to design a real wedding inspiration with true New Orleans style! It was so important to me that no detail be left out. And, our bride and groom are actually a real married couple! They were so sweet, and had a blast “doing it all over again”! I wanted this wedding to be approachable and have elements that brides could take away and use within their own wedding. The entire day was so much fun, and it was so rewarding sharing my culture with Charlotte!
