It’s our pleasure to get to introduce y’all to a new set of Blue Ribbon Vendors each month, because I just know any one of them would be a joy to you if you choose to work together! This time around, we’re introducing you to a few of them through their answers to some of our favorite BRV interview questions. Click through to their listings to find out more about them!

Name: Merideth Bugbee, Belle Soiree Events
Where you call home: New Orleans, LA
How I got into weddings: My very first job was waiting tables in a New Orleans restaurant. The ONE time the staff let me bring out a birthday cake to a lady celebrating her 50th birthday my heart was so full of joy knowing I played a very tiny part in making this day special. I knew from that moment that special events were what I was made for. A few years and lots of hard work later, Belle Soiree Events was born!

Name: Michael Cottrell, Cottrell Photography
Where you call home: Dahlonega, GA
Favorite thing about weddings in the South? My favorite thing about weddings in the South is the low humidity. No really, I love everything about the South! The folks I photograph are extremely pleasant to work with and are grateful for everything. I love sweet tea, too! Never been to a wedding that didn’t have it.

Name: Duck Woods Country Club
Where you call home: Kill Devil Hills, NC
Favorite thing about weddings in the South? The true romance of it! I am especially partial to romantic country club weddings.

Name: Emilie Baros, Emilie Anne Photography
Where you call home: Austin, TX
Favorite thing about weddings in the South? A tall glass of sweet tea, good music, and BBQ!

Name: Jessica Sowyrda, Ever & Anon
Where you call home: Houston, TX
Favorite part of a wedding day? Hands down: when the groom sees the bride for the first time. In that moment, you see utter love and awe in his eyes.

Name: Jennifer Vu, Firefly Ambiance
Where you call home: New Orleans, LA
How I got into weddings: My background is in accounting and on the weekends, I worked for another local company setting up weddings. I fell in love with weddings and three years ago decided that I needed to follow my heart. It has been three amazing years!

Name: Keeneland
Where you call home: Lexington, KY
Best piece of advice you can give to brides and grooms? During the planning and on the big day, always remember what this is all about- marrying the love of your life. Be thankful for the person you want to spend the rest of your life with, and be thankful for all your friends and family who came to celebrate with you.

Name: Lauren Soley, Lovegood Rentals
Where you call home: Hattiesburg, MS
Favorite part of a wedding day? We love everything about the reception! From the first dance to cake cutting, we enjoy seeing the newlyweds and their guests have the best time socializing and dancing the night away. Relax, and take it all in!

Name: Lydia Robins Hendrix
Where you call home: Columbia, SC
Pie bar or red velvet cake? Pie bar all the way. One of my life’s dream was fulfilled when I had one at my wedding!

Name: MiKel Rumsey
Where you call home: Columbia, SC
Favorite thing about weddings in the South? The South is like no other place on earth – the land of sweet tea, hospitality, yes ma’am and yes sir, biscuits and gravy. Where everything is better with some good food and a few friends, and no piece of clothing is safe from a monogram. Southern weddings are just the same – traditions handed down from mother to daughter, father to son, embroidered handkerchiefs and something blue. The sweet sounds and scents of the South make a Southern wedding something you can’t duplicate anywhere else.

Check out all of our favorite vendors in the Blue Ribbon Vendor Directory! I also wanted to mention that we’re working particularly hard to expand some of our areas of slim pickings – namely, Kentucky, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and West Virginia. If you would like to recommend someone (or nominate yourself!) for any of these states, please email emily at southernweddings.com!

Name: Aaron Lane Entertainment
Where you call home: Lafayette, LA
Favorite thing about weddings in the South? The attitude of brides in the South can’t be beat. They know what they want, and they want their friends and families to experience that vision.

Name: Big Events Inc.
Where you call home: Nashville
Favorite thing about weddings in the South? Southern brides appreciate tradition, but love to try new twists on old ideas.

Name: Christine Zeiler, declare photography
Where you call home: Fort Worth, TX
Favorite thing about weddings in the South? I love that Southern weddings are meaningful celebrations where family and friends come together, where friends are the musicians, where grandmother’s veil is passed down, where couples write their own vows, and homemade pies often adorn the reception. It’s pretty special not only to document one of the most significant days in my couples’ lives, but to hear the stories behind the thoughtful details.

Name: James Bryan, Eventful Furniture
Where you call home: Wilmington, NC
How I got into weddings: We started out renting a few cool items as photo props and for trade show public spaces. We quickly realized the market and look of weddings was going through a huge transition and that no one offered modern, design-driven furniture.

Name: Rhiannon Bosse, Hey Gorgeous Events
Where you call home: Michigan (but she’s traveled all over the South for weddings!)
Favorite part of a wedding day? Arriving to the venue in the wee hours of the morning to a blank slate about to be completely transformed, handing over a bouquet of blooms that I spent hours working on to my sweet and excited bride, high-fiving my hard working staff when we send our bride off down the aisle so seamlessly, lighting that final candle before eager guests tumble into the tent, wrapping my couples up in sweaty, happy and totally tear-filled emotional hugs before they head off at the end of the evening into marital bliss – it’s all the best. Truly.

Name: Jacqui Cole
Where you call home: Tampa, FL
Favorite thing about weddings in the South? My favorite thing has to be the wonderful clients and Southern mums! Having grown up my whole life in London, there’s a certain charm to Southern weddings that makes me very nostalgic and reminds me of my home across the pond.

Name: Julie Flury, Jewel Hair Design
Where you call home: Virginia
Favorite Southern city? I need to travel to more so I can have a fave! Pick me for your wedding in a Southern city, and I will love every minute of the experience!

Name: Kati Mallory
Where you call home: Little Rock, Arkansas
Favorite part of a wedding day? I honestly adore the first look. During all the chaos of a wedding day, it’s a pause to remember what it’s all about. I love being able to see in the bride and groom’s eyes how excited they are that they are about to spend the rest of their lives together.

Name: Caitlin Bristow, Lettered Life
Where you call home: Charlotte, North Carolina
Favorite part of a wedding day? When the music builds, the doors swing open, and the bride steps out with her father. It such a captivating moment as the bride and groom see each other from down the aisle. My heart melts and my eyes tear up every time!

Name: Alyssa DiCicco, Liberty Party Rental
Where you call home: Nashville, TN
Favorite part of a wedding day? We love seeing the groom’s face the first time he sees his bride walking down the aisle. What a special moment! Also, since we work in the rental business, it’s fun to see what colors and styles brides bring into their weddings. Each wedding has a unique touch that really speaks to what the couple is like.

Name: Amanda Day Rose Paperie
Where you call home: Richmond, Virginia
Favorite thing about weddings in the South? Southern weddings are so rich with family, friendship, Southern culture, and memories. I love how I can see a little piece of my own family background and culture in each and every Southern wedding I’ve worked on.

Name: Candace Nelson Photography
Where you call home: Troy, Alabama
Early bird or night owl? I guess I have to say early bird. I get up almost every morning at 4:30 to workout – commitment and dedication, right there!!

Name: Cote Designs
Where you call home: Aiken, South Carolina
Favorite thing about weddings in the South? The elegant and understated charm of each event.

Name: Dannon K. Collard
Where you call home: Charleston, SC
Favorite part of a wedding day? Everything! I feel like I’m part of the family the moment I walk in the door. I get to hear the bridal party reminisce on the good ole days, see the bride read the letter from her groom, watch the mother of the bride help her daughter into her dress… it’s so emotional, and I thank God everyday that I get to be a part of it!

Name: Ever Thine Events
Where you call home: Augusta, GA
How I got into weddings: I was always a lover of antique and vintage things. I rented vintage for my wedding three years ago and I became enamored with the idea. I started collecting and renting pieces out of my garage. From that point it was just a slow evolution from the rentals to what now is a full service styling/planning/floral design company!

Name: Green Bee Floral Designs
Where you call home: Winston-Salem, NC
Favorite thing about weddings in the South? Great outdoor wedding weather! We squeeze a little more warm weather out down here… which means more tea-sippin’, fan-waving, biscuit eat’n, outdoor wedding goodness!

Name: I Do I Do! Wedding Planning
Where you call home: Birmingham, AL
Favorite thing about weddings in the South? I love all the personal details we incorporate into weddings here – the custom monograms, special paper details – I love it all. I also think, in the South, the guest experience is very important. Southern hospitality is of utmost importance to our couples.

Name: Jacqueline Dallimore Photography
Where you call home: New Orleans, LA
Favorite part of a wedding day? My favorite part of the wedding day is the bride and groom’s first dance. I often find myself tearing up behind the camera!

Name: Jeff Hall Photo
Where you call home: Greenville, SC
How I got into weddings: I’m really a documentary photographer at heart. I gravitate towards authentic images that have meaning. Weddings offer me the opportunity to make something that means something to my clients and their families. Wedding photos are priceless by nature, and having the chance to capture something both momentary and invaluable is thrilling as a person and a photographer.

Name: Jen Dillender Photography
Where you call home: Austin, TX
How I got into weddings: There are three things my husband and I love: Jesus, each other, and (being true Southerners) college football. Shortly after we got married, I wanted to pursue photography, but being newlyweds, we couldn’t afford a nice camera. My husband and my brother ended up making a friendly bet on a football game (Texas A&M vs. Baylor), and if our beloved Aggies won, my brother would buy us the camera I’d been eyeing. If Baylor won, we’d name our firstborn after him. As luck would have it, the Aggies pulled out a victory, I had the camera a week later, and the rest is history!
