Lara may have already tied the knot to the man of her dreams, but that couldn’t stop me from dreaming up a romantic bridal shower for her and Ari. It is so much fun to plan out some bridal shower inspiration for each other and it may serve as inspiration to some of y’all as well! Also, a little bird mentioned that Ms. Casey is considering a vow renewal, so maybe a little party inspiration will be just what she needs…

Lara grew up on the Florida panhandle, so I couldn’t think of a better place for this bridal shower soiree than a white-washed beach house overlooking the ocean. We would mingle on the porch, eating scrumptious mini key lime tarts (perfect for a Florida celebration!) and chit-chatting away.

Lara’s favorite color is a light and relaxing shade of teal, so I knew that we had to incorporate that lovely shade into the party. Comfortable teal pillows would line the porch swings and bottles of sea glass would line the tables.

Guests, dressed in their finest beach attire, would cheer to Lara and Ari’s continued happiness. Their dearest friends and family would give toasts to the couple.

Lara adores Luna Bars, and I momentarily considered setting up a Luna Bar dessert table, but I figured that light macaroons and zesty key lime desserts might be a bit more fitting. Guests would also enjoy refreshing mint juleps and champagne.

I’d love to have photos of Lara and Ari and their families and friends set up around the porch, and there would be plenty of candles to light the space after the sun went down. At the end of the evening, we would all hop on bicycles and peddle home along the beach after we said our farewells.

My dream shower is happening next weekend :) my maids of honor are throwing with a Bridal Soirée, Kate Spade themed! Round gold confetti, bright pinks and red’s everywhere. Super preppy, playful and girly!! Kate Spade sayings throughout the house and tulle poms everywhere. I can’t wait to see how they put it all together! I’m such a lucky bride!

Hi Whitney! That’s so fun! ESPECIALLY since I am currently planning a Kate Spade shower in real life!! I’m sure yours will be awesome!

I considered starting this post with “Surprise! Whitney’s getting married!” but I thought that might be a little mean. Don’t fret, y’all. Whitney’s not rockin’ a ring yet (though we did get a peek into her dream wedding!). We just thought it would so much fun for us to take turns dreaming up some bridal shower inspiration for each other. We thought it might help any of y’all who are busy planning showers, too!

This week, I’m playing off of Whitney’s classic tastes and her fun personality for a little garden soiree. I imagine all of us toasting to her engagement, playing games and chit chatting until the sun comes down. Then, as you must expect, string lights will come on!

I wanted to keep Whitney’s shower fresh and fun, so a garden party where everyone could don a pretty dress was absolutely the way to go. I kept imagining beautiful Southern plantation houses with a lush green grass yard for us to celebrate the bride-to-be! The landscape would speak for itself while blue and white linens would play up the springtime setting and pops of red would contribute to the “love is in the air” vibe.

Whitney’s a fab baker (y’all remind her to teach me how to make coconut macaroons!) and a monogram-lover. (She’s also a coffee-lover, and I did, for a moment, consider adding a coffee bar to this shindig!) So along with some other little activities, I think a mini cake decorating competition is in order! It will be the perfect dessert ending to an afternoon of snacking on modernized Southern fare like mini mac and cheese, pulled pork sliders, biscuits with yummy jams and cheeses, and mint juleps.

I’d love to include some cute photos of Whitney growing up around the space and big chalkboard for guests to design Whitney’s new married monogram. At the end of the night, guests would leave with a tote bag full of hydrangeas and a snack for the ride home: coconut macaroons.

If you’ve already had a bridal shower, what was it like? What would your dream bridal shower look like?

I love Southern Weddings Magazine. I bought my first issue when planning my daughter’s wedding. I don’t have wedding to plan any time soon, but I can’t wait for the next issue. There are so many good ideas. Thanks for a great magazine!

Sit a Spell: Lara Casey

by in Main, Personal on

For the final contestant in our Sit a Spell series, I present to you Lara Casey! Our dynamic Editor in Chief really needs no introduction, so I’ll let her take it away… – Emily

1.  My husband, Ari, and I eloped to Vegas after just having met five months before.  It was so not like either of us, but it was perfect.  We’ll be celebrating our six year wedding anniversary on March 18th!

2.  My grandmother, a true Southern belle from Alabama, is one of my favorite people on earth.  She’s a redhead, too, and feisty at that!  Grandma “Bunny” will be 94 this December.  I just talked to her and she told me to tell all of y’all hello and it’s wonderful to meet you here on this blog.  She doesn’t know what a blog is, but I told her it’s a place on the internet where all of my favorite friends read about pretty weddings and wonderful love stories.

3.  I used to be a personal trainer.   And at one point, I could deadlift 225lbs.   Useless skill, but fun to intimidate my male clients in the gym.

4.  There is an elbow in my rib.  No, really.  And a foot in my belly.  I’m due with my first baby – Grace Austin – in about 11 weeks!

5.  I’ve been eating the same breakfast almost every day (with the exception of about a dozen days) for the last 15 years.  Jay Robb protein powder and oatmeal.  It never gets old to me!  And I probably eat more Luna Bars than is legal.  I should be their spokeswoman.

6.  I am really bad at trivia.  Or anything to do with pop culture.  We cancelled our cable a while ago and I generally rely on my husband to tell me about current events.  Don’t ask me to name a band or pop star.  I’d lose.

Photos by Nancy Ray

7.  I got a D in tap class once.  OK, technically it was because I injured my knee running and had to sit out most of the class, but I was pretty terrible at it.  I went to school for music and theatre and design.

8.  I started the magazine on Microsoft Publisher.  Eventually, I taught myself InDesign by literally pushing all the buttons to see what they did.  Ever since I was a kid, I never read instruction manuals to put things together.  I get much more pleasure out of figuring it out myself.   One exception that I’ve learned the hard way on:  Ikea furniture. Do not attempt without the manual. Ever.

9.  I still don’t know who goes first at a four way stop.  I usually just wait for someone to go first or give me a funny look and pause awkwardly, telling me to go.

10. I genuinely love my job and couldn’t dream up a better group of women to work with every day. I pinch myself every day! Oh my stars, these ladies are the real deal – kind, genuine, hard-working and fiercely devoted to you, dear readers!

I love that you started on MS Publisher! I used to use that back in the day and I definitely learned InDesign by clicking on all 500 buttons and googling “How to make a polka dotted square?” :) Glad to know I wasn’t the only clueless gal out there!

Your love for what you do shows, and that’s what makes SW so awesome!

Hi Grandma Bunny! Lara, I tried out Luna Bars after seeing a picture somewhere of your pantry collection and am a convert! I’m also bad a trivia and awkwardly lapse into silence when someone brings up the latest celebrity news.
