The bites and beverages have been tasted and the votes have been cast. Y’all, I can barely believe that we have reached the end of the 2014 Southern Weddings Mason-Dixon Madness Tourney. Drumroll please…

Congratulations to our friends at Cheerwine!! We are bubbling over with joy at the chance to crown you the 2014 Mason-Dixon Madness Champion!

Here’s the final look at our bracket:

Can you believe that no one in the Southern Weddings office predicted Cheerwine as their final champion? Hard to believe since Cheerwine is a staple for our office parties and celebrations. Heavens, Emily even transported cases of the bubbly cherry beverage to Connecticut for her reception, and we know she isn’t the only bride who has served ice cold Cheerwine to her guests!

Wanna know a secret? Cheerwine also sells Cheerwine-flavored ice cream and sherbet, and there are piles of recipes (yup, BBQ included) that have cleverly incorporated Cheerwine into the list of ingredients. If you love Cheerwine, there are heaps of ways to incorporate the cherry beverage into your big day!

I am a firm believe that good manners go a long way, and Cheerwine has been the definition of a gracious Southern contestant. They acknowledged that BBQ is their best friend, but noted there could only be one champ. I imagine there will be bottles of Cheerwine cracked open across the South this afternoon to celebrate! Congratulations, Cheerwine!

Happy Championship Monday! After thousands of votes and serious consternation (picking between biscuits and BBQ???) we’re down to the final two! The final flurry of voting opens now, and at 10:30am tomorrow, we will crown the champion of our 2014 Southern Weddings Mason-Dixon Madness tournament!

For now, though, we bid adieu to our beloved biscuits and hot-n-now Krispy Kreme donuts; admittedly, some of us are still mourning past losses (precious peach cobbler, I’m looking at you). None of the Southern Weddings gals have their champion still standing, so we are all excited to see who takes the cake tonight!

Here’s how our FINAL bracket looks:

You only have 24 hours to vote, so don’t dawdle! Close your eyes, take a deep breath and pick your favorite. Planning to watch the other March Madness event tonight (and cross off Spring Doin #16)? Make sure you have your party guests vote for their favorite Southern bite or beverage at halftime!

Stay tuned tomorrow for the big announcement!

And then there were four. Welcome back to the 2014 Southern Weddings Mason-Dixon Madness Tourney! We have whittled away from 64 and now have our top main, side, sweet and drink!

I have been lucky enough to visit the original Krispy Kreme location on a number of occasions, because my sweet daddy grew up in the Winston-Salem area. I admit that I am a sucker for that Hot’n Now sign, but never, ever did I think that peach cobbler would miss out on the title of best sweet in the South.

This cobbler/donut vote was the closest, and with only a handful–ahem, seven–votes separating these two delicacies, I am still in a bit of denial. We are also parting ways with Lisa’s beloved mac and cheese AND Nicole’s champion pick, sweet tea. Yes, the bubbly cherry beverage from Salisbury, NC is moving on to the Final Four!

Here’s how our bracket is looking now:

I guess your weekend meal is set: a big plate of BBQ with a biscuit, washed down with a cold glass of Cheerwine and finished with a Krispy Kreme donut. Then, place your bets and pick your favorites for the championship match-up.

Good luck! (RSS readers, click through to access the poll.)

P.S. I am counting down the days until peach season so I can make a big ol’ batch of homemade peach cobbler. Y’all are invited, just bring the sweet tea ;)

Now that all of our office brackets are pretty much shot, I can’t wait to see who’s named the surprise champ!

Well, I just won a bet against my sweetheart, BBQ for the win. He was sure the champ would be Fried Chicken, looks like I get to pick the movie next time :)

I can’t believe my beloved sweet tea didn’t make it into the final four! I’ll be rooting for biscuits or Krispy Kreme donuts from here on out, although I can’t possibly choose between them!!

Nothing like Cheerwine while playing softball and then BBQ all night and more Cheerwine. It does not get any better.
