Is there anything more Southern than sweet tea and biscuits? Hold on to your hats y’all, because this championship battle is going to be for the record books. The Final Four votes have been tallied and we are officially down to our last two Southern delicacies. Final voting is open now and we will crown our 2017 champion on Monday, April 3, hours before the ‘other March Madness’ Championship tips off!

For now, though, we bid adieu to fried chicken and hot-n-now Krispy Kreme donuts. Krispy Kreme made back-to-back Final Four appearances, but even with most of the Southern Weddings office pledging their voting allegiance, they couldn’t make it to the championship match. This year the SW gals are split in their final voting because many of us have a champion still standing!! A couple of us will be rooting hard for biscuits and at least one gal (ahem, *wink*) is 100% on Team Sweet Tea!

Here’s how our final bracket looks:

You have until Sunday night at midnight to cast your vote, so don’t dawdle! Planning to watch the ‘other March Madness’ festivities over the weekend? Maybe serve some sweet tea and biscuits along with your other favorite party foods. Need other menu inspiration? Pick a few other bites and beverages from our 2017 list of 64 – might I recommend pimento cheese, chicken & waffles and banana pudding to start? Happy voting!!

Welcome back to the 2017 Southern Weddings Mason-Dixon Madness Tourney! We have whittled the field from 64 and now have our top main, side, sweet and drink battling it out for a spot in the championship match-up! Three of the four remaining bites and beverages made it through by upsetting the higher seed so there’s no telling who is going to make it to the final round! Seems that y’all are a bunch of donut lovers. Krispy Kreme is back in the Final four, upsetting Pecan Pie by less than 10 votes!

We’re also parting ways with Lisa’s favorite mac and cheese and my beloved BBQ. However, I’m pleased to share that sweet tea lives to see another day and is the official best ‘beverage’ in the South!

Here’s how our bracket is looking:

Voting is open until the 29th

Fried Chicken upset BBQ by 4 votes, so call your mama, your beau, and your best friend if you want to see your favorites (ahem, sweet tea) in the finals! Each vote matters!

And just like we’ve narrowed the field to eight! Today, we are saying goodbye to cornbread and shrimp & grits and red velvet cake (Amber’s championship pick). North Carolina’s darling Krispy Kreme donuts and my beloved sweet tea survive and advance to fight for the chance to make it to the final four! And don’t forget your vote counts! Pecan pie edged out red velvet cake by 5 sweet votes.

Here’s how our bracket is looking now:

All four #1 seeds are alive and kickin’, with spots in the Final Four AND bragging rights as category winners up for grabs! Voting is open until the 27th!!

A little confession? I had a hard time picking between pimento cheese and biscuits because I think of them like the peanut butter and jelly of the South. I think I’m going to make a big batch pimento cheese this weekend. Feel free to join me, perhaps grab a slice of red velvet for dessert?
