Southern Weddings

Monthly Archives: April 2014

Flowers are a favorite topic of conversation in the Southern Weddings office: we always get excited to brainstorm our yearly print bouquet feature, we ooh and ahh over every bride’s bouquet, and playing with pretty petals at editorial shoots is a highlight for each of us. So when a new book devoted to beautiful Southern blooms landed on our desks, we were excited to share it with y’all — assuming you share our floral love? Yep, we thought so :)

We are kindred souls with our fellow Southern magazines, and of course, we love that Southern Lady celebrates the art of gracious living. They’re know for fabulous table settings with beautiful floral displays, so we weren’t surprised to see their newest offering: Flowers with Southern Lady.

Arranged by seasons, this hardcover book features more than 100 floral designs as well as a how-to section with step-by-step instructions for creative place cards, centerpieces, table runners, and more. We love that it can carry you right through wedding planning onto your own path of gracious Southern living! And, we were especially excited to see the ideas for simple arrangements from your garden, and tips and tricks for decorating around the holidays.

Flowers with Southern Lady would make a perfect gift for a newly engaged friend or daughter, or, just, you know, a springtime treat for yourself! It retails for $19.99 and is available for purchase here.

“Tools Of The Trade” sounds incredibly in depth and a terrific resource to add. Great pics!

We have some big news this week! Many thanks to feedback from y’all, everyone who filled out our annual survey, and our own brainstorms about making Southern Weddings the very best it can be, a few things are changing around here!

Starting next week, we are launching a brand new series: Southern Newlywed! Every Friday, we’ll be sharing fun posts aimed at our sweet readers who have tied the knot, but aren’t quite ready to stop their regular visits to Southern Weddings :) We are SO excited about what we have up our sleeves for this series, and we can’t wait to share. And don’t worry–if you miss any posts during the week, you’ll still be able to find them in the Weekly Round-Ups, which are scooting to Saturday. That’s all I’ll say for now, but be sure to check back next Friday for the first Southern Newlywed post!

This week’s Facebook Friday engagement session is by our lovely Blue Ribbon Vendor, Robyn Van Dyke. Go take a look on our Facebook page–as well as this adorable dog, there are really cute farm animals involved! :)

Last week on Southern Living, we explained the Southern tradition of house parties. They’re a wonderful way to honor friends without having a giant bridal party! Read more here.

Catch up on this week’s features!

We admired the loveliest Lowcountry oyster broil rehearsal dinner.
With 100 days to go to her wedding, Meredith shared her ceremony plans!
We celebrated Southern Weddings’ birthday with a look back on six wonderful years!
It’s been a fierce battle for the top Southern delicacy! Vote for your favorite in the Final Four.

We love real weddings!

Natalie and Parker‘s wedding (above) was full of monograms and pearls–two of our very favorite things!
After meeting at a country dance group, it was only natural that Hannah and Kyle filled their wedding with country-inspired details.
Leanna had always dreamed of being married at Lowndes Grove Plantation, and her dream came true when she and Ike said “I do!”

And then there were four. Welcome back to the 2014 Southern Weddings Mason-Dixon Madness Tourney! We have whittled away from 64 and now have our top main, side, sweet and drink!

I have been lucky enough to visit the original Krispy Kreme location on a number of occasions, because my sweet daddy grew up in the Winston-Salem area. I admit that I am a sucker for that Hot’n Now sign, but never, ever did I think that peach cobbler would miss out on the title of best sweet in the South.

This cobbler/donut vote was the closest, and with only a handful–ahem, seven–votes separating these two delicacies, I am still in a bit of denial. We are also parting ways with Lisa’s beloved mac and cheese AND Nicole’s champion pick, sweet tea. Yes, the bubbly cherry beverage from Salisbury, NC is moving on to the Final Four!

Here’s how our bracket is looking now:

I guess your weekend meal is set: a big plate of BBQ with a biscuit, washed down with a cold glass of Cheerwine and finished with a Krispy Kreme donut. Then, place your bets and pick your favorites for the championship match-up.

Good luck! (RSS readers, click through to access the poll.)

P.S. I am counting down the days until peach season so I can make a big ol’ batch of homemade peach cobbler. Y’all are invited, just bring the sweet tea ;)

Now that all of our office brackets are pretty much shot, I can’t wait to see who’s named the surprise champ!

Well, I just won a bet against my sweetheart, BBQ for the win. He was sure the champ would be Fried Chicken, looks like I get to pick the movie next time :)

I can’t believe my beloved sweet tea didn’t make it into the final four! I’ll be rooting for biscuits or Krispy Kreme donuts from here on out, although I can’t possibly choose between them!!

Nothing like Cheerwine while playing softball and then BBQ all night and more Cheerwine. It does not get any better.
