There are few things we love more than stories of true, life-long love — yes, even more than weddings! That’s why we couldn’t resist sharing this video that has been making its rounds on the internet lately — if y’all haven’t seen it yet, now is the time to sit down with some tissues and take a look. Fred Stobaugh is a 96-year-old gentleman who entered an online singer-songwriter contest (via a manila envelope in the mail) on a whim, after penning a tune for his late wife, Lorraine. This touching video by Green Shoe Studio tells the whole story of how “Sweet Lorraine” came to be…

Where do we even begin? This is the kind of love that we live for around here. It is truly inspiring to see the way Green Shoe Studio turned this song into such a beautiful tribute, and then gave the world the opportunity to celebrate Fred and Lorraine’s love story. Whether you’re newly engaged or have been married for decades, we hope this touched your heart the way it touched ours!

If you’re in the mood for some more sweet videos, take a look at our past wedding films here.

Oh my goodness. This is one of the best videos I’ve ever seen, and it’s one of my favorite Southern Weddings posts. The kind of love Fred and Sweet Lorraine shared is the reason why I love weddings. Thank you for sharing this and for making me cry! : )

This is so much sweeter than anything I have ever heard… Thank you so much for sharing this Lisa! These days life-long love seems to be a distant memory, it is such a precious gift. Life-long love isn’t about the extravagance of the wedding but it’s in the fullness of a marriage through God. Bless y’all, happy monday:)

Southern Weddings Weekly Round-Up

by in Main on

Happy September, friends! Maybe this is due to the fact that this is my first fall out of school, but I still think September feels like the start of something new. That is definitely the case here in the SW office! V6 is wrapping up with only two shoots to go, and there are some other exciting things happening this fall that we can’t wait to share with you. In the meantime, let’s take a look back at the wonderful features (seriously, so much good advice!) and lovely weddings on the blog this week!

Can y’all believe it has been almost a year since Emily got married? In light of her upcoming first anniversary, she compiled a list of traditional and modern anniversary gifts, which you can find here. (P.S. Part two of this feature is coming up next week!)

One of the trickiest areas of modern wedding etiquette to navigate, for brides, grooms and guests alike, is what to do with all of our technology. Emily broke down what’s appropriate and what’s not, from ways to request an unplugged ceremony to hashtag signs at receptions. See it here.

Kristin shared her third “Hint for a Happy Marriage” with “Put on Your Spouse’s Shoes” (No, that doesn’t mean sharing your monogrammed Jack Rogers with your groom!). Don’t miss her wonderful advice here.

We love Real Weddings!

Candice and John were married at John’s beautiful family home in a celebration full of elegant details. See it here.

Abby and Sam switched from a destination wedding in the Bahamas to a surprise wedding in their hometown! So fun! See it here.

We love the way Augusta and Jordan celebrated the bounty of the South by including lots of fresh peaches in their wedding decor. They were the perfect complement to all of the other pretty peach details! See it here.

Kate and Tanner drew inspiration for their glamorous Texas wedding from one of the most meaningful places–their rose gold wedding rings. See it here.

Last but not least!

We’re sharing a lovely engagement session by Amanda Castle for Facebook Friday! Stop by our Facebook page to take a look.

The NotWedding is coming up in Athens, Georgia on September 12! If you’re not familiar with the NotWedding, it’s a completely unique bridal show alternative in the form of a faux ceremony and full reception. “Wedding guests” get to experience the talents of so many vendors that come together for this event firsthand! Find more information and buy your tickets here.

We love seeing pictures after our sweet Southern Bride Bloggers get married! Congratulations, Dori and Skylar! See more of their pictures by J&J Photography here.

Have a happy weekend!

Our Blue Ribbon Vendors are some of the best in the South — of that there’s no question. And by best, we don’t just mean that they excel at their chosen craft, whether it be photography or planning (though they do), but that each is a kind, patient, creative individual who is just bursting to help you make a meaningful beginning to your married life. Please say hello to a few of our newest additions, including several wonderful venues!

Barrington Hill is a private equestrian estate in Florida that has opened their doors for select weddings! Their gorgeous oaks and manor house are the perfect setting for happy nuptials.

CJ’s Off the Square in Franklin, TN provides the best of both worlds — a gorgeous garden venue, and a talented, big-hearted full planning team.

George Street Photo is a talented, passionate group of photographers in Texas who specialize in photojournalistic coverage of your wedding day.

Christi, Lindsay, and Veda make up the Atlanta-based team of Godwink Brides, and all three specialize in natural light photography.

I’m so happy to introduce Grey Snail Press to you today, because J created the invitations for my dear friend Jackie, who is getting married this weekend! I love her casual cursive style.

I love that the work of Huz from Kreative Angle manages to be both dramatic and hearfelt at the same time. He is based in Houston.

RiverOaks Charleston specializes in “event setting and story telling” (by the river and under the oaks, no less), and they do it with an talented planning and floral team that can handle “everything but the dress.”

We recently had the pleasure of working with Raleigh-based Twenty-One Films on a behind-the-scenes film for V6, and I can say that they are as delightful and talented in person as you’d guess from their online presence!

Still on the hunt for your perfect Southern vendors? Check out our whole crop here! Vendors, if you’re interested in applying, please fill out this form and we’ll be in touch!
