Monthly Archives: March 2012

After seeing the results from our mason jar and escort card challenges, we didn’t know if y’all would be able to top yourselves the third time around. Of course, we never should have doubted! Your entries were as creative and crafty and SOUTHERN as always, and you made it very difficult for us to choose a winner. But choose a winner we did, using a highly-scientific combination of reader votes and editor opinions.

Congratulations to Sweet Tea Photography, Petal’s Edge, and the rest of the Virginia team! We loved all of the burlap projects they submitted, from a burlap bouquet wrap to burlap pew cones, wreaths, menus, candles, boutonnieres and more. You can see their whole submission here!

Kudos also to our runners-up, the Tying the Knot team and Events Uncorked! We loved both of their ideas — combining burlap and oysters, and a DIY burlap bow tie, respectively.

And lastly, one more congratulations and thank you to ALL of our participants and finalists — Cedarwood + Kristyn Hogan, Rebecca Rose + Amy Lynne, Formal Fringe, Pretty Peachtree, and Dodeline Design.

Stay tuned, because the next Ultimate Southern Challenge will be posted next week!! Suggestions for future challenges are welcomed below :)

Spring has sprung, y’all! Do you know that moment that occurs at at the beginning of the season when you find yourself suddenly confused about the state of your health? Have you come down with a cold or is it just your allergies that have (blast them!) returned? I had that moment a few days ago. Sadly, this time, it was the cold that won.

I’m working from home today, but y’all, Meg + Jeremy’s wedding is actually making me feel better! Their June wedding looks fresh and cool, especially with the addition of some smashing seersucker suits! And see those crisp white tables lined up for the reception? If that’s not perfection, I don’t know what is. The biggest thanks to Melissa Schollaert for sharing this beautiful wedding with us!

I share my favorite detail of this wedding with the bride, who had her girlfriends lining the stairs leading to the aisle. They handed her the blooms that ultimately comprised her bouquet! I’m blown away by this sweet and unique detail.

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. Like my father and his new wife and my brother-in-law and his wife, Jeremy and I met on Match.com. Jeremy had just moved to Atlanta from Orlando and was looking to meet new people, and I had just decided to start dating again after a terrible break-up. After our second date, I knew that Jeremy could be someone I could really fall in love with. And fall in love we did!
Describe the proposal. It was two days before my father’s wedding, and knowing that all of my family, especially my sister, would be in town, Jeremy popped the question on the sidewalk of our favorite neighborhood, which at the time was adorned with Christmas lights and decorations. It was beautiful and romantic. He had already made dessert and champagne reservations for later that night at a beautiful restaurant in Atlanta. We toasted our engagement and looked forward to telling the family the next day. It was the perfect proposal–one that was heartfelt and sincere and reflected the type of man Jeremy is and the kind of relationship we have.
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Elegant, simple and fun.
In what month did you get married? June
How many guests attended your wedding? About 135
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: My girlfriends who, instead of being official bridesmaids, lined the stairs leading to my processional. They held flowers to hand me, which ultimately comprised my bridal bouquet. The last girl in line tied them together with an ivory sash.
What Southern details or traditions did you include in your celebration? What was Southern about your wedding? The hospitality. We wanted all of our guests to feel welcome and included as much as possible. All guests were invited to the rehearsal dinner, and everyone stayed on site at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel. It was truly a wonderful weekend.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: Finding the wedding dress was a bit of a feat, I have to say. I had a very clear idea of what I wanted, but I had a hard time finding it. I knew I wanted something a little different from the typical bridal gown, but at the same time something very simple and classic. Something fit for a garden ceremony and that reflected my personal style, which is anything but flashy. Ultimately, I got exactly what I wanted. I wouldn’t change a thing about my dress.
Describe your wedding cake or dessert: Delicious and beautiful! It had ivory buttercream icing with sea grass detailing over alternating square layers of vanilla and chocolate pound cake separated by lemon curd and chocolate ganache.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? Finding the dress…and the right undergarments to go with it!
What range did your wedding budget fall into? We spent between $25,000 and $50,000
What is the one thing you are most happy you splurged on? Hands down, photography.

Hi Nicole! I love the groomsman ties. Any idea where they purchased them from? They would coordinate well the tan suites and blue bridesmaid dresses.

Y’all, there are many things for us to be grateful for in this post. First, that we have wonderful readers and vendors who spent Saturday morning with us at our yard sale. Second, that the rain held out and left us with sunny skies. And third, that it wasn’t as hot as last year’s yard sale! (Really, y’all, we were melting.) We were thrilled to be able to meet some new faces this past weekend and loved seeing a few familiar ones, too.

We were up bright and early Saturday morning in our green finest to welcome y’all with open arms, sweet tea, donuts and yard sale goodies. Despite our first sale, our garage was packed with dozens of lanterns, glassware and fabric. You could even find some leftovers from past photo shoots! Y’all made out like bandits and scored some great finds for your own weddings. We’re so excited to see how you incorporate them into your big day!

Our yard sales have always been among our favorite events. We love getting to meet the people who help us create such an awesome Southern community! We were lucky enough to have photographer Faith Teasley drive up from Fayetteville to join us. Some of our fab Blue Ribbon Vendors came over, too!

At the end of the day, the sweet tea was gone, the items picked over, and the hugs given out. We found ourselves left with a photo backdrop, tons of balloons, and miscellaneous wedding accessories. You can bet some shenanigans ensued.

Thanks again to Faith for taking these fun photos and thank y’all again for such a wonderful time! We can’t wait for the next event where we hope to meet even more of you!

Weren’t able to come? Say hi below so we can get to know you!
