Y’all, there are many things for us to be grateful for in this post. First, that we have wonderful readers and vendors who spent Saturday morning with us at our yard sale. Second, that the rain held out and left us with sunny skies. And third, that it wasn’t as hot as last year’s yard sale! (Really, y’all, we were melting.) We were thrilled to be able to meet some new faces this past weekend and loved seeing a few familiar ones, too.

We were up bright and early Saturday morning in our green finest to welcome y’all with open arms, sweet tea, donuts and yard sale goodies. Despite our first sale, our garage was packed with dozens of lanterns, glassware and fabric. You could even find some leftovers from past photo shoots! Y’all made out like bandits and scored some great finds for your own weddings. We’re so excited to see how you incorporate them into your big day!

Our yard sales have always been among our favorite events. We love getting to meet the people who help us create such an awesome Southern community! We were lucky enough to have photographer Faith Teasley drive up from Fayetteville to join us. Some of our fab Blue Ribbon Vendors came over, too!

At the end of the day, the sweet tea was gone, the items picked over, and the hugs given out. We found ourselves left with a photo backdrop, tons of balloons, and miscellaneous wedding accessories. You can bet some shenanigans ensued.

Thanks again to Faith for taking these fun photos and thank y’all again for such a wonderful time! We can’t wait for the next event where we hope to meet even more of you!

Weren’t able to come? Say hi below so we can get to know you!

Oooh, fun! When might y’all be having another yard sale? So many things I love seeing on the blog – including the adorable bowties right now!

Top o’ the mornin’ to y’all! It may not be St. Patrick’s Day yet, but we’re fixin’ to get in the spirit! Why, you ask? We’re hosting another Southern Weddings yard sale and we couldn’t think of a better day to schedule it than March 17!

Now is it just the thrifter in me, or are yard sales the best? I love finding pieces here and there that aren’t needed by their owners anymore but that I think are the bees’ knees. Plus, if I find something really cool and one-of-a-kind, I like to make up a story about it’s past. You know that lamp I have? Yessir, it was made from the stones of an ancient royal palace and then traded along the high seas until the ship wrecked and the lamp washed ashore Carolina beach. Totally believable.

The first SW yard sale last year was a blast for us and for our readers and we couldn’t wait to put together another one! We can’t guarantee our goods come with stories quite as epic as the one above, but they are beautiful and need a home in someone’s future wedding!

This time, we want to get y’all even more involved. Of course, you’re invited to shop among our wares. But if you’re an event planner or even a former bride who wants to sell some gently used wedding items, too, we want you to participate in the yard sale with us! Shoot me an email to let me know that you’re interested and tell me what you want to sell.

Who else is more excited than a hen on a hot griddle?
P.S. I reckon the SW ladies will be donning their green best. We encourage you to do the same!

Hey, y’all! Last Friday’s first-ever Southern Weddings Yard Sale was a smashing success!! We had such an amazing time meeting readers, drinking sweet tea and Cheerwine, and sending wedding goodies off to lovely homes (despite the 95+ degree North Carolina heat!). As promised, we’re back with lots of photos.

First, the set up! We started the morning stocked with so much wedding goodness, it spilled out of the garage and down the driveway. A small sampling…

The SW ladies were ready for the big day, too, flowered sundresses and all! We also helpfully told readers what currency we were accepting (including biscuits, naturally), and set out delicious Sugarland cupcakes (complete with cupcake flags from Emily!), cookies, sweet tea, and Cheerwine.

And then the readers arrived! We had SUCH a great time meeting y’all — HUGE thanks to everyone who came out! A partial list of our new (and old!) friends (apologies if we missed someone!): Annemie of Megapixie Photography (who posted her own recap here!), Sarah from A Southern Season, Becca from Rebecca Rose Events, Megan (whose wedding we just featured here + here!), Jamie from Viva L’Event, Marletha from In Season Events, Deidra from Memorable Milestones, Barbara from An Elegant Affair, Alanna from Parties by Bash, Samantha from Bliss by Sam, and Nancy of Nancy Ray Photography.

With the help of these generous ladies and more, we raised $1,489 for Stop Hunger Now and Southern tornado victims! WAHOO!!

For those of you who couldn’t make it out, we hope you enjoyed this little photo tour! We had a blast and are definitely open to hosting more events this summer for local ladies, so tell us — how would you like to hang with the Southern Weddings gals? Cupcake party? Cake decorating class? Outdoor barbeque? Brunch at Fosters? Let us know, and we’ll make it happen!

Photos by our intern, Emily.

I’m sooo bummed that I couldn’t make it. Especially after seeing the pictures! Do you all plan to do any more yard sales in the future?! Hopefully so! I think a cake decorating class is an amazing idea!!! Outdoor barbeque sounds great as well…..although, can you wait until the fall for that one?! lol You all are the best!

Hi Laura! We are definitely considering it after such a turnout and seeing some of the stuff we have left. And yes, those are great ideas! We will be sure to give a shout out on the blog if another yard sale is in the future or for any other activities we plan for our readers.

  7. avatar Paula reply

Boo! Any chance of doing an ‘internet yard sale?’ I’d pay for freight! (To Australia…..) Either that or will just have to move there!

  8. avatar Corinna Hoffman reply

That’s awesome that ya’ll raised that much for charities! :) That lobster dress is awesome!! Lara–you look amazing for a mom-to-be! :)

The yard sale was great! Thanks for hosting it! How about an event to learn how to arrange flowers for centerpieces? Okay, that’s a completely selfish request because I have about 500 mason jars that we hauled up from an old moonshine still to fill with flowers for the reception. No joke! http://sweetcarolinalife.blogspot.com/2011/03/we-brewed-white-lightnin-til-sun-went.html

    • avatar Sierra reply

Caroline: I loved reading your story about how you got the mason jars. Such a trek, but I’m sure you will incorporate them beautifully! Way to put that fiance to work! And Tyler’s was indeed a perfect pick to cool down after the intense heat at the yard sale. Yum!
