Monthly Archives: July 2010

Though we know so many of our readers are already located in the South, we wanted to put something in V2 for those ladies who might not be lucky enough to live south of the Mason-Dixon Line… but who are smart enough to be planning nuptials in our fair region!  We hope our special destination wedding guide came in handy, wherever you might be getting married!

The eight-page spread featured advice from stationery favorite Minted; planners Beth Helmstetter, Alison Hotchkiss, and Kelly McWilliams; luxury wedding consultant Rebecca Grinnals; wedding dress guru Randy Fenoli (y’all know we love him!); and many more.  Pick up a copy to see the rest!

In case you missed it, we’re giving away magazines!  Order a copy this month and we’ll give you another copy free for a friend!  Order here.

The dog days of summer are here and in North Carolina that means it’s time for running through sprinklers and guzzling lemonade… that is, only if you’re brave enough to actually go outdoors in pure humidity. In the many mid-day hours where it is just too hot, I’ve been on my trusty MacBook obsessing over today’s giveaway.

Why? Today we’re bringing you a fabulous wedding day photography giveaway from Maile Lani!  Feast your eyes on a few of her beautiful images…

Here’s what’s being offered: Maile Lani is offering a full 8 hours of wedding-day coverage, a high-resolution DVD of both black and white film and digital images, an image gallery on Maile’s website where guests have the option to order pictures, and some polaroids! Your only expense? The lucky winner will get all of the above for only the cost of travel from Maile‘s home in New Orleans!  This is good, people.  Really good.

We are looking for fun couples who are planning a unique and super Southern wedding! If this sounds like you and your fiance(e), please email whitney at iloveswmag dot com with the following information:

— the location and date of your wedding

— a photo or two of you and your fiance(e)

— a short description of how you met/your love story

— a short description of your plans for your wedding: how it will be unique, stylish, handmade, creative, and, most importantly, SOUTHERN.  We’d also love to hear about any details you’ve already nailed down.

The cutoff date for contest entries is Monday, July 26 at 11:59pmMaile and the SW ladies will choose the top contenders, and then we’ll vote right here on the blog starting on August 3.

Best of luck to all of you!!  We’re so excited to see your entries!

This sweet engagement shoot from fab photog Punam Bean is lovely enough to make you pause without knowing the story behind the images.  But for me, I knew this one was a keeper as soon as I got the email back from Nicole with a few details behind the day.  She wrote, “John and I love all things historical and vintage and we wanted to incorporate several other things that reflect us as a couple, like our love of literature and the television show LOST.”  Umm, did y’all hear that?!  She loves LOST!  And so do I.  Read on for a few more details behind the day, and look out for references to the show throughout the shoot!  To see all of the images, click here!

P.S. Nicole wanted to make sure we gave a shout-out to the source behind her “awesome vintage dress,” Vonlenska Vintage.  Shout-out?  Check!  The lovely venue is Old Bethpage Village Restoration.

From Nicole:

“We wanted to create something that was ‘out of time,’ as if these pictures could have been taken in any time.  John and I love all things historical and vintage and we wanted to incorporate several other things that reflect us as a couple, like our love of literature and the television show LOST.  LOST is a show about fate, destiny, and finding what you are meant to do and who you are meant to be with.  Characters in the show are intertwined and paths constantly cross.  The show features time travel and characters and their conscious travel through time.  When one character, Desmond’s, consciousness is lost in time, it is his true love, Penny, his constant, who restores him.  John is a social studies teacher, and while I teach, as well, I also work at a bookstore part time, so the props we brought with us fit our personalities, and were referenced in LOST.

“We were really fortunate to have the weather on our side that day.  It had rained most of the week and we thought for certain that it would continue throughout our shoot.  However, it could not have been more ideal with the afternoon sun coming in through the clouds.  Punam eased any nerves that we had by making every moment comfortable and natural.  It almost felt like we weren’t working with a photographer, but creating candid moments with a friend.  Nothing felt too posed or crafted; instead, every smile and gesture was organic, as if we were the only two people there.  We can’t wait to work with her again at our wedding!”

  3. avatar Sarah Kealing reply

Awwww, LOST! "If anything shall go wrong, you will be my constant." How romantic! And that first photo tells a story of it’s own. SO love this shoot.
