Talk about a classic Southern bride! Caitlin stunned in her a-line Priscilla of Boston gown and Hey Lady shoes and her four bridesmaids looked simply elegant in Ann Taylor. Add in the groom’s grandparent’s beautiful home in the background, and you have a crowd-stopper! We have to agree with the bride, who said her favorite detail was the flowers. The knockout bouquet and other floral accents were the work of Roses are Red and the gorgeous affair was captured by Vitalic Photo. Don’t forget to come back and check out Part II, it’s just as beautiful. I promise.

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. Eight years ago, I went on a family vacation with my best friend and bridesmaid, Alex. Charlie is her older cousin and was also on their family vacation. I instantly had a huge crush on Charlie! We spent the next few years flirting and seeing each other at every family function. Charlie finally came to his senses and we started dating as soon as I graduated high school. It was love at first sight; the week after I met Charlie I told my mom that I was going to marry him and the rest is history!
Describe the proposal. It was simple, a surprise, and all around amazing! I was cooking Charlie’s favorite meal (chicken parmesan) after work and he came home with flowers. He was being extra sweet but I didn’t suspect anything. I was cutting up a cucumber and turned around and Charlie was on one knee with a ring. I was so caught off guard that I actually thought it was a joke until I saw that his hands were shaking. It was really sweet and a perfect night!
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Dreamy, Elegant, and Romantic!
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: This question is too hard, I loved everything! My favorite thing was the flowers! I absolutely love peonies and hydrangeas. The centerpieces turned out even more beautiful than I imagined! Charlie’s favorite detail was the dance floor over the pool. He also says his other favorite detail was stealing the show with his wedding vows (I’ll admit it, they were really good and everyone was tearing up).
What Southern details or traditions did you include in your celebration? What was Southern about your wedding? I knew I wanted to incorporate lace into our wedding. My dress and veil both had lace details. We found a beautiful lace to make belly bands for the invitations. The bridesmaid dresses were black lace and the cake had a lace design. We each had our own signature drink at the cocktail hour. Charlie’s was a John Daly (sweet tea vodka with lemonade) and mine was a Bellini (peach champagne drink).

Alison + Manny just might win the prize for most (effortlessly) fashionable wedding. The bridesmaids’ ruffled frocks from London Times (available at Dillard’s, y’all!) and the gents’ coordinated blue ties are awesome enough, but throw in a pair of cowboy boots and cardigan-topped David’s Bridal gown (like Alison did) and you’ve got yourself one winner of a Virginia wedding. Katelyn James photographed A + M swapping vows at the Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church, and Flowers by Rose designed the ladies’ all-white bouquets. (Alison gets extra points for keeping her basic white bouquet from looking anything but boring!)

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. The first time I saw him, he had long shaggy hair, a scruffy face, and he was riding on the back of a mini dirt bike. To say that it was “love at first sight” probably couldn’t have been more of a falsehood! We met in the summer of 2007 when we each traveled from North Carolina and Virginia to work for three months at a Young Life property in the Pocono Mountains of New York. The Lord began to develop a great friendship as we spent the summer with our team of sixteen interns. Little more than this friendship had developed, however, as the summer drew to a close. We stayed in touch over the following months where the Lord developed between us a great mutual respect and the discovery of shared joys and passions. On January 5th, 2007, our relationship became “official” with a phone call Manny made to my dad asking him for permission to date me, along with the request that he continue to pray for depth in our growing relationship.
Describe the proposal. In August of 2010, on a trip back up to the camp in New York where we had met, we took a walk one morning to a small stone chapel on the edge of the property where we had spent countless hours with our friends the summer we met. As we rounded the corner, Manny began to tell me a story about his trip to Spain earlier that summer, and the moment when he knew he couldn’t imagine spending the rest of his life without me. As we stopped in front of the chapel doors, he dropped to one knee, pulled out the ring, and asked me to marry him. Through my flowing tears I dropped to MY knees and responded with an emphatic “are you serious?!” After wrapping my arms around him and whispering yes, Manny reminded me that I had completely overlooked the diamond ring clutched between his fingers and said “Well, this is for you!”
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Blessed, warm, homemade
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: Our home-made decorations like the jars, the chalkboards, and the burlap banners. Manny was so wonderful about telling me how much he loved these little things and it really felt like our wedding day was a great representation of who we are!
What Southern details or traditions did you include in your celebration? What was Southern about your wedding? We used lots of fun burlap and twine… I love the warm feel it gave to the evening! Mason jars were everywhere!

Get the Look :: Chelsey + Janin

by in Main on

In love with the sweet, rustic details that infused Chelsey + Janin’s celebration? You’re in luck! Here’s our round-up of C + J-inspired goodies. If you missed their real wedding feature, click here and here, and be sure to check them out in print in V3!

A. Chelsey paired a Holly Stalder shrug with her Casablanca gown, and we think she made an excellent pick. Holly specializes in light, frothy, and delicate, and her pieces look perfect paired with both elaborate and simply elegant gowns.

B. Ring bearers don’t need much accessorizing to make them adorable, but we like these diminutive bows from Buttered Toast. Our pick is the “Cloudy,” but there are many more patterns in her shop!

C. These carefully-crafted felt flag toppers would look swell atop a tower of cupcakes. Mayi Carles would be delighted to make them in the shade of your choice!

D. Decor doesn’t get any simpler nor sweeter than bundles of dried lavender nestled in monochromatic vessels. For this wedding aesthetic, we love the look of milk glass or stoneware. Find dried lavender bundles here.

E. Happily, pepsi crates are an easily found decor addition — garage sales, flea markets, eBay auctions, and Etsy all abound with these vintage cubbies. Hand them off to your caterer to hold passed drinks, or use them to arrange programs or seating arrangements.

F. Simple Sweet Designs makes these 10″ high moss letters, which we feel would be right at home at Chelsey + Janin’s reception. She’ll custom make the letter(s) of your choosing!

G. Continuing with the mossy theme, we found this moss and birch ring pillow that’s an excellent lookalike. We also found this one and this one in our Etsy search, all reasonably priced!

H. Vintage wire baskets to hold your programs are also easily found at flea markets, but if you’re not the hunt-and-gathering type, feel free to pick up this burlap-lined lovely from Wisteria.

I. Last but not least, Chelsey used brown pocketfolds to encase her invitations. We love the offerings from Envelopments.

Have a question? Leave it below and we’ll find an answer!
