At Southern Weddings, we love a good printed bridesmaid dress–our In Full Bloom and Freshly Squeezed editorials are proof of that! It was probably no surprise then, that if you follow SW on Instagram, you saw how excited Emily and I were to discover the new printed bridesmaid dresses from Donna Morgan at Bridal Market. The dresses immediately had us dreaming of the beautiful weddings where they’d be at home, so over the next few months, we’ll be sharing wedding inspiration based on a few of our favorite patterns!

First up is Garden Floral – a bright, cheery, feminine print perfect for spring. It looks just as lovely mismatched with solid colors as it does on its own!

Photographer: Jessica Haley Photography / Venue: Topping Rose House and Villa des Amis / Styling: Jacqueline Weppner of Merci New York / Florals: Sag Harbor Florist / Hair Styling: Andreas Schonagel of UtopiaNYC / Makeup Artists: Sally Duvall and Yona Corbett for Sally Duvall Makeup Artistry

We firmly believe that wedding inspiration can come from anywhere and everywhere–your love story, your home, architecture, books, movies, and even fashion. Inspired by the sweet silhouettes, jewel-toned pops of color, and feminine feel of the Garden Floral print, we created this wedding inspiration board, and we love the bolder take on a spring color palette!

Talk about a classic Southern bride! Caitlin stunned in her a-line Priscilla of Boston gown and Hey Lady shoes and her four bridesmaids looked simply elegant in Ann Taylor. Add in the groom’s grandparent’s beautiful home in the background, and you have a crowd-stopper! We have to agree with the bride, who said her favorite detail was the flowers. The knockout bouquet and other floral accents were the work of Roses are Red and the gorgeous affair was captured by Vitalic Photo. Don’t forget to come back and check out Part II, it’s just as beautiful. I promise.

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. Eight years ago, I went on a family vacation with my best friend and bridesmaid, Alex. Charlie is her older cousin and was also on their family vacation. I instantly had a huge crush on Charlie! We spent the next few years flirting and seeing each other at every family function. Charlie finally came to his senses and we started dating as soon as I graduated high school. It was love at first sight; the week after I met Charlie I told my mom that I was going to marry him and the rest is history!
Describe the proposal. It was simple, a surprise, and all around amazing! I was cooking Charlie’s favorite meal (chicken parmesan) after work and he came home with flowers. He was being extra sweet but I didn’t suspect anything. I was cutting up a cucumber and turned around and Charlie was on one knee with a ring. I was so caught off guard that I actually thought it was a joke until I saw that his hands were shaking. It was really sweet and a perfect night!
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Dreamy, Elegant, and Romantic!
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: This question is too hard, I loved everything! My favorite thing was the flowers! I absolutely love peonies and hydrangeas. The centerpieces turned out even more beautiful than I imagined! Charlie’s favorite detail was the dance floor over the pool. He also says his other favorite detail was stealing the show with his wedding vows (I’ll admit it, they were really good and everyone was tearing up).
What Southern details or traditions did you include in your celebration? What was Southern about your wedding? I knew I wanted to incorporate lace into our wedding. My dress and veil both had lace details. We found a beautiful lace to make belly bands for the invitations. The bridesmaid dresses were black lace and the cake had a lace design. We each had our own signature drink at the cocktail hour. Charlie’s was a John Daly (sweet tea vodka with lemonade) and mine was a Bellini (peach champagne drink).

Never in a million years did I think that the kid I shared 80% of high school classes with, would wind on on a blog that I am now advertising on…for his wedding! You snagged a gorgeous lady, sir! I’m pretty sure I met her last year at the Brooks n Dunn concert :) It was a beautiful wedding! I wish you and Caitlin a lifetime of sweet memories and joy! God Bless you both!

Part II of this New Orleans wedding does not disappoint! Andrea and Tres had their three-tiered cake made by NOLA staple, Gambino’s. The cake was topped with magnolias, the state flower of Mississippi, and the pretty pink color was matched perfectly to a swatch of Andrea’s bridesmaids’ dresses! The newlyweds danced the night away at the beautiful antebellum home at Southern Oaks Plantation where Armosa Studios captured the gorgeous wedding.

Describe your wedding cake: We got our wedding cake from the one and only Gambino’s, a New Orleans staple. We had three layers: red velvet cake with cream cheese icing, buttercream cake with buttercream icing, and another layer of buttercream cake with raspberry icing. A swatch of my bridesmaids’ dresses was given to the baker to make the cake the exact pink color of their dresses, and it was topped with magnolias, continuing the Southern theme. The taste of the cake was more important than anything for us, and Gambino’s was a charm!
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? It was difficult planning a New Orleans wedding in Memphis, but Tres and I made several trips down to The Big Easy to get everything squared away. We were lucky enough to have such great vendors, that we never ran into a problem too stressful.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? After we were pronounced husband and wife, walking down the aisle hand in hand was one of the warmest feelings I’ve ever had. I knew we were going to ride away in the horse and carriage together, but we had no idea our venue, Southern Oaks, would make the conclusion of our ceremony so exhilarating. When we got in the carriage, the Black Eyed Peas song, “I Got a Feeling” began to play. The carriage circled around our guests who were all standing and clapping their hands to the music. When we got to the front of the aisle, out of nowhere, streamers and confetti came down on top of us and fireworks went off in the distance. Tres and I were completely surprised and our guests were in complete awe. A lot of smiles, laughs, and a complete celebration came from that moment, and I felt it was a perfect, fun beginning to our new life together.
Did you write your own vows? If so, what was your favorite phrase, verse or line? We each wrote our own vows to each other. The vow I made to Tres that I take most to heart is: “I promise to love you more tomorrow than I do today and love you even more each day to follow. And if times get tough, to promise to pull these vows out, read them, and remind myself of what I promised you on this day.”
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? One of the main aspects of our relationship is how much fun we have together, and right now we are enjoying life as a married couple and living it to the fullest. We have already traveled together so much in just the seven months we have been married and have many more travels planned for the future. We are both very focused on our careers and will continue to support and encourage each other in the work we do. Mostly, we are blessed to have found each other and are looking forward to our everlasting lives together!
