It’s no surprise that so many of our favorite weddings of all time took place under the gracious canopy of a Sperry Tent. They’re the perfect classic backdrop for events of all aesthetics, with their beautiful sailcloth canopies, expert construction, and lyrical lines (plus, those flags atop each tent peak!). Today, we’re sharing nine of our favorite Sperry Tent weddings that show the range of celebrations where these tents are at home, and how many creative ways they can be used.

If you’re thinking of booking one for your own wedding or event, be sure to check out Sperry Tents Southeast!

No. 1: Alex and Trevor’s wedding was one for the books, from their candle-lined ceremony in the woods to her overflowing bouquet and their sugar flower cake. A twinkle-light draped Sperry Tent was the perfect setting for dancing into the night! Photos by Clark Brewer, styling by Caroline Brewer, and planning by RT Lodge. No. 2: Continuously ranked one of the best all-time from our archives, Callie and Jamie filled their wedding with meaningful details inspired by their love story. For their reception, they chose to dine al fresco at long tables, then headed under the tent for dancing, late-night snacks, and a confetti blast! No. 3: When I think of the ultimate Southern Weddings wedding, Whitney and Clark’s celebration pops to mind first. From their classic attire to the graceful way they hosted their guests under a tent and inside Pippin Hill, it doesn’t get much more lovely than this. Photos by Patricia Lyons and planning by Easton Events. See more of their Sperry tent wedding.

No. 4: I mean, I’m making this list, so I guess I get to include my own wedding, right?! It is most definitely one of my favorites :) Our tent added the perfect indoor-outdoor feel to our garden reception, and was the perfect classic backdrop to our pink and navy details. No. 5: Anne Sydney and Jesse might win for having the larger tented wedding in our archives, clocking in at 470 guests. But I think they also might win for best tent location: on top of a mountain! Photos by Melanie Mauer and design by Jaclyn Journey. See more from their Sperry tent wedding.

No. 6: Georgia and Charlie’s tent was the perfect classic backdrop for their colorful, floral aesthetic. I love the patterned curtains they added at the tent’s entrances – such a pretty touch! Photos by Eric Kelley and planning by Easton Events. See more from their Sperry tent wedding.

No. 7: Landing yet another Easton Events wedding on our list (we told you she was the Sperry queen!), Lauren and Rob’s classic coral celebration always stands out as such a joyful one. I loved how simple and vibrant their color scheme was! Photos by Jen Fariello. See more from their Sperry tent wedding.

No. 8: A petite tent is a perfect way to gather in an intimate crowd and make the space feel intentional! I love this pretty anniversary party on Snippet & Ink (her pink dress!). Photos by Tec Petaja and planning by Calder Clark.

No. 9: Jen and Shane turned to a tent when thunderstorms threatened their outdoor ceremony – such a great Plan B! :) We love the lush greenery lining their aisle as well as the custom monogrammed Moscow Mule cups. Photos by Katie Stoops and planning by Easton Events as seen on Style Me Pretty.

The best weddings feel like experiences outside of time and set apart from normal life, where everyone has the attention, space, and energy to focus on what matters most. There are many ways you can help cultivate this atmosphere – have a strong logistics plan, budget time for moments with family members – but one of our favorites is creating an environment that feels special, and marks the occasion. I can think of no better way to accomplish this than with a Sperry Tent. (I will admit to a bias, though – I rented one for my wedding!)

The beauty of Sperry Tents is that they are strikingly beautiful just as they are – no tent liner, no draping, no elaborate florals or lighting needed. They are elegant and classic.

Sperry Tents are handcrafted by sailmakers in coastal Massachusetts and are made from genuine sailcloth. The wooden support poles are hand-milled at a historic 1930s sawmill. All of their design decisions prioritize craftsmanship and have a minimal, classic aesthetic that’s at home anywhere from a field to a beach to a manicured backyard. You can really feel the love that went into each one when you’re standing inside!

And yes, those merry pennant flags come standard with every rental. I adore them!!

If you do have a strong color scheme or elaborate decor in mind, a Sperry Tent is the perfect neutral backdrop – no clashing carpet or bad lighting to get in the way! Speaking of lighting, Sperry retailers also offer a variety of beautiful options, from cafe lights to classic fisherman-style lanterns.

By far one of the most popular and memorable details at my wedding was the lounge spaces we set up in our reception tent. Yes, people remember the ceremony and the music, but what people bring up most two years later is how much fun they had catching up with friends and family on comfy couches in a beautiful space (with the ability to pop back and forth to the dance floor!). It’s a great example of what’s true about weddings: people may not remember what you said or what you fed them, but they will remember how you made them feel. A feeling of inclusion and hospitality is a major wedding do, and a reception lounge can be a big step toward that!

While lounges can be set up in many locations, we happen to think that Sperry Tents make the absolute perfect back-drop. And we’re not alone! In one of my earliest conversations with our florist (who had a Sperry Tent for her own wedding), she said, you know, the nice thing about a Sperry is that they are so beautiful, and create such an experience on their own, that you don’t really need much in the way of extra decor. Not needing the smaller details frees your budget up to include more substantial details, like a lounge space!

As you can see, Sperry Tents are a classic, neutral backdrop that works with every aesthetic and location, from a field to a beach to a manicured backyard. The tents are handcrafted by sailmakers in coastal Massachusetts and are made from genuine sailcloth, and the wooden support poles are hand-milled at a historic 1930s sawmill. All of their design decisions prioritize craftsmanship – you can really feel the love that went into each one when you’re standing inside!

In case you’re wondering, in my experience, Sperry Tents are more expensive than a standard frame tent (though obviously with good reason). If you start to add anything to the tent like a liner, draping or pole covers, however, the price will usually exceed a Sperry!

A few tips for those of you thinking of adding a lounge space to your wedding reception:

Search out rental options. Vintage rental companies are popping up left and right (we have several stellar options in the Blue Ribbon Vendor Directory!) and traditional rental companies are adding more lounge options as their popularity grows. There are options to fit every aesthetic, from shabby chic to ultra modern.
Plan carefully if using your own pieces. For my wedding, we decided it was more cost-effective to purchase pieces to supplement our rental couches rather than buying everything. We bought several Ikea Lack tables and white ottomans and then were able to either sell them after the wedding (on Craigslist!) or give them away. If you go this route, however, make sure that you have the vehicle necessary to transport your items to your venue, and that someone is assigned to pick them up post-wedding!
Make a diagram. I don’t know about y’all, but spatial issues are not my forte, and when faced with trying to figure out how to fit our couches and our tables and our bar AND our dance floor in our tent, I was baffled. Enter: Sperry’s AMAZING space planning tool. After selecting your tent size and shape on their website, you can add and play around with a ton of different decor options to come up with the perfect arrangement, including lots of different lounge configurations! SO helpful.
