Our shoot days for the magazine are long (usually 10+ hours!), and we pack in as much as we can to produce the maximum amount of goodness for y’all. Aside from beautiful images, these days often result in lots of ridiculous faces, more than a few characters met along the way, and always unexpected moments. We love taking y’all behind the scenes along the way via our #MakingSouthernWeddings hashtag on Instagram, but there are some details that we just can’t reveal until after the magazine debuts. That’s why we love the chance to have a behind-the-scenes photographer on set with us! We hope y’all love these peeks at how our “perfect” images come together!

Big hugs to Blue Ribbon Vendor Courtney Dox for snapping these photos!

We love prepping as much as possible onsite, including hair and makeup for our reader models, all of the flowers, and food!

It never fails – there is always at least one photo of Lisa or me crouching behind something to hold it in place as the photographer works her magic.

I don’t know if Jacin has ever had a stranger request than “flowering” a golf cart, but she pulled it off with aplomb! The gigantic letter balloon that she snagged from our venue to hold everything up was just the icing on the cake.

Lisa and I agreed that golf carts should be required at every shoot — they made it so much easier to tote things to and fro! And yes, you’re welcome for that beautiful shot of me eyeballing the table :)

Mid-course gown change? No problem! Lisa is our fashion expert on shoot days and a total pro at unconventional fitting locations.

And I am an expert at teaching people how to pass things. Add that one to my resume :)

For the finished photos from this editorial and all of the wonderful vendors involved, see this post!

When we set out to create Southern Weddings V8, one of the shoots we were most excited about was this one: The Fabric of a Southern Belle. We’ve never really done a “fashion” shoot before, and naturally, we wanted to put our own SW spin on this one–hopefully, inspiring y’all in a deeper way than just with pretty gowns. Conversations in our office and on Instagram led us to our inspiration: what is it exactly that makes a Southern belle? We all know it’s more than just an address–it’s a way of life and of looking at the world, and in honor of the belles in our own lives that we admire and look up to, we dove into the qualities that make Southern belles so special. With the help of seven Southern designers, seven darling reader models, and a tremendously talented team, we created a look for each gal that personified one of the qualities we find most prominent–we hope you see a little bit of yourself and the ladies you love in each one!

The Southern belle is gracious. She has a servant’s heart and is the first to lend a hand. Sydni looked fabulous in “Brooke Mason” by Alabama designer Heidi Elnora!

The Southern belle is elegant. While more can be more, she prefers just enough. How gorgeous is Anne Louise in “The Woodlands” by Texas designer Lela Rose?

The Southern belle is confident. She doesn’t need the approval of others, but stands firm in the truths of which she can be sure. Our own Emily’s sister, Kimberly, rocked “Barrymore” by Charleston designer Kate McDonald, and it was so much fun having her at the shoot!

The Southern belle is romantic. She believes in love at first sight, summer romances, and marriages that are strong as a Southern oak. Claire looked lovely in Style 5885 by Miami designer, Liancarlo.

The Southern belle is fun. She isn’t afraid to play, to dance, or to laugh with her head thrown back. We couldn’t get enough of our darling cover gal, Alexandra, in the “Kian” corset and “Priya” skirt by Texas designer Watters!

The Southern belle is warm. Her doors are always open and her front porch always full. Kimberly looked amazing in “Jenny” by Georgia designer, Anne Barge!

The Southern belle is strong. She exemplifies both femininity and inner fortitude. The “Bridgette” gown by Nashville designer Olia Zavozina was so striking on Megan!

Thank you SO much to the talented team and reader models who made this day possible! To see more from this shoot, pick up a copy of Southern Weddings V8, now on news stands across the Southeast, or order online in the Southern Weddings Shop.

Keep an eye out for more Southern Weddings V8 editorials coming up on the blog in the coming weeks! In the meantime, we’d love to know, which of these qualities do you most identify with? Does it match your favorite gown? I’m a “romantic” at heart, but the “elegant” gown is one of my favorites in this issue!

Today is the day, friends!!! There could not be more excitement in the Southern Weddings office right now. We are throwing confetti and popping champagne (at least in emoji form) every other minute, and just having the best time soaking in the love from y’all! We are so grateful.

If you didn’t pre-order V8, today is your day to head out to a newsstand near you to pick up a copy! Southern Weddings is carried by Target, Walmart, Barnes and Noble, Walgreens, Harris Teeter, and numerous other grocery stores and pharmacies (including everyone’s Southern favorite, Piggly Wiggly!).

If you DID pre-order a copy, it has hopefully already arrived at your doorstep! Yahoo!!! Pre-orders shipped on Monday and arrived to most homes yesterday.

Not finding a copy at a store near you? You can always order a copy from our shop, and your order will likely ship the same day you place it! You’ll even get a special (handwritten!) surprise from the Southern Weddings ladies :)

However and whenever you get a copy in your hands, we would be SO grateful if you would share the news! We ADORE seeing y’all’s favorite spreads, features, and photos from the issue, and, of course, your smiling faces next to our cover! Be sure to use hashtag #SouthernWeddingsV8 so we can spot your post! The hashtag is also a great way to sneak peeks at features if you’re impatiently waiting on your own copy.

Quick update on the launch party: we are more than sold out of tickets at this point. While we (seriously!!) wish we could celebrate with everyone, we are running up against a hard capacity limit at our beautiful party location, The Carolina Inn. If you haven’t gotten your ticket yet and would like to come, put yourself on the wait list and we will release any tickets we can next week!

Finally, just one more note of gratitude. We are SO THANKFUL for y’all and the ways you support us throughout the year, but especially at this exciting time for us. We couldn’t spread the mission of Southern Weddings so far and wide without your support, and we are just overflowing with gratitude to have the best readers, followers, and vendor partners ANYWHERE. So much love, so many hugs, and so many armfuls of heart eye emojis to all of you!!

With love,
Lara, Emily, Nicole, Marissa, Kristin, and Lisa
