Pink + sparkly Kate Spade dancing shoes, a perfect Southern bump, a custom monogram, lush pastel peonies… oh my heavens, y’all, I’m in heaven! Pink sparkly heaven! Angelica + Colby’s romantic Texas nuptials were filled with some of my very favorite wedding details, but classic and romantic didn’t always describe A + C’s relationship. In fact, Colby told us, “If someone had told my wife that she would be marrying me after we first met, she probably would have punched them.” We’re sure glad that after awhile the two reconnected for a more amicable time, and of course, this sweet day. Plus, I don’t actually believe Colby: check out his face as Angelica comes down the aisle. That’s one smitten kitten!

Big hugs to Jake Holt for not only capturing all the pretty details, but also such awesome moments (dying over the thumbs up shot!).

If I had these Kate Spades, I’d wear them to the grocery store! Scouts honor!

Tell us about finding your wedding dress.
If I said it was the first and only dress I tried on, you’d think I was kidding, but I’m not! We had gone to Joan Pillow Bridal “just to look.” I browsed the dresses and saw one I liked. “This will do,” I told my mom. Since we had some time to think about it, she told me that if in a month I was still dreaming of that dress, it was mine. A month later we made an appointment, tried the dress on, and ordered it! It was the perfect dress for me, my body, and my dream wedding. My consultant at Joan Pillow was told me I could try more dresses on for fun if I wanted! So I did, just so I could say I tried on more than one!

Angelica, your Southern bump rocks my world! Pure Southern hair perfection!

Describe your wedding flowers.
They were perfect! I wanted a romantic, spring look and what we got was 100 times better than what I ever expected. The peonies were full and fragrant, the roses were perfectly bloomed and the orchids, ranuculous and hydrangeas were the perfect shade of pink! My bouquet was exactly what I wanted — full of peonies, roses, and rhinestone-studded stephanotis all wrapped up with a tulle tutu! I had saved a photo of this bouquet from Southern Weddings before Pinterest and my florist made it better than I could have imagined! All the arrangements were large, full and soft — perfectly accenting the ceremony and reception.

Y’all, Angela’s pink tutu bouquet inspiration is right here! Gorgeous!

We love that Angelica brought a photo from Southern Weddings to her florist, but I’d have to say this floral goodness below is out of control!

Come on, Colby’s expression is absolutely my favorite detail of this wedding! A-dor-a-ble!

Did you decide to do a “first look”? We did not do a first look. All during the planning, Colby had insisted on seeing me for the first time when I walked down the aisle in my dress. I knew it was his day too, so we skipped the first look. He is very traditional when it comes to certain things and this was a non-negotiable! It was so wonderful walking down the aisle and seeing him as happy as ever. The raw emotion was 110% worth it, but it was SO hard not telling him about and showing him my dress!

Did you write your own vows?
I wanted to recite traditional vows and Colby wanted to write our own, so we compromised by combining different traditional vows, written in our own words. I just think there is something so romantic about reciting vows that people have been using to unite themselves in marriage for years and years, but thought it was so “us” to make them our own.
What readings, if any, did you have at your ceremony?
We had two readings during the ceremony. The first one was E.E. Cummings’ “I Carry Your Heart.” We had asked my dear cousin Michele to pick something to read and she said if she were to have had a reading at her wedding, this would have been it! We also had Romans 12:9-12 read during the ceremony. Colby’s cousin Tucker read in on behalf of his sister Jennifer who couldn’t be there because she had just completed a bone marrow transplant and was in North Carolina healing. (She’s now cancer free!)

There were a lot of family heirlooms used throughout our day. The alter was an antique hutch that my great grandparents had when they were young; I had it refinished for the wedding, and now it’s our favorite piece in our house! We also used a cake knife that everyone in my family used at their weddings. I wore my great grandmother’s necklace that all the girls have worn in their weddings, and carried my grandmother’s handkerchief with me down the aisle. My something blue was a sorority tradition, and Colby changed bow ties and into a white dinner coat after the ceremony. We also served individual Frito pies as our late night snack!

The cakes were delicious! The wedding cake was a Chambord-soaked yellow cake, with vanilla mousse and fresh raspberries. It was SO good. I hope the cake tier we have in the freezer tastes half as good as it did on our wedding day! The groom’s cake was a traditional red velvet cake that was an absolute replica of the Rolling Stone’s “Let It Bleed” Album. The Stones are Colby’s favorite band, and other than not having a first look, this was the only other non-negotiable! The Four Seasons Pastry chefs make a red velvet that you dream about.

Tell us about some of the songs you used throughout your wedding. My mom really wanted to dance down the aisle to “Brick House.” She has a funny sense of humor! We had classic selections instead, though. I walked down the aisle to “Moon River” by Henry Mancini. It was just one of those classic romantic songs that sounded beautiful performed by strings. During the ceremony, my brother and cousin performed “Your Song” by Elton John. My mom picked it out, and since then, I hear it all the time! The recessional was “Here Comes the Sun” by the Beatles. It was especially fitting since it had rained the entire week leading up to the wedding. Our first dance was to “It Had to Be You” by Frank Sinatra. It’s such a classic love song and fitting for our big band during the reception.

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story.
(From the groom) Classic romantic stories do not apply to us whatsoever. In fact, if someone had told my wife that she would be marrying me after we first met, she probably would have punched them. Well, maybe not punched, but she definitely would have given them the stink eye. When I was relocating back to TX, we were introduced at a local Houston watering hole by mutual friends who were dating at the time. I was seeing someone, and she was wrapping up her college career. It wasn’t really a set up to begin with, but I was a bit of a jerk, and she made it very clear that I was acting as such. At the end of the evening, we went our separate ways. Six months later on my 25th birthday, I had finally moved back to Texas and found myself freshly single (as in,  we broke up on my birthday) and hanging out with the same mutual friends in Austin. Angelica was also in attendance, and while she was still convinced I was a bit of a pompous jerk, she knew that I was in the middle of a quarter-life crisis and was extremely compassionate. She helped me through a pretty bad birthday weekend. Over the remainder of that summer we stayed in close communication and began dating. The rest, as they say, is history.
Describe the proposal.
I was supposed to fly to Dallas with my boss for a day trip to go shopping for clients. We got to the airport, and right as we’re about to go through security, my boss turned to me, handed me a sealed envelope and said, “This is where I leave you. Colby is waiting for you.” I went to find Colby and was shocked. I didn’t pack anything but he assured me that everything was okay, that I had luggage, and that my mom was on her way to Austin for the weekend to watch our dogs. He promised no more surprises, and I was so relieved and happy. On Saturday morning, we had a lovely brunch at Farmer Brown and then walked all over the city. Colby kept saying, “Let’s go over there and take pictures,” which I found weird since he really doesn’t like getting his picture taken. Later, we walked down to the water at Baker Beach and it’s at this point when Colby starts texting someone and checking his watch. It was getting a little annoying, so I said to him, “Why do you keep checking your watch? Is something magical going to happen at 4pm?” Apparently so. A few moments later he looked at me and said, “You know how I said no more surprises? I lied” He got down on his knees and said, “I have something to ask you. Will you marry me?” I’m bawling at this point and he’s smiling from ear to ear. Of course I said yes! He pulled the most beautiful ring out of his pocket and put it on my finger. I turned around to see some people walking over. It was my best friend Carmen and her dad with cameras! Colby had them in on the surprise, too!
In what month did you get married?
May
How many guests attended your wedding?
120
Our favorite detail of the wedding was:
For me, it was the sequined linens and our custom monogram. The linens were something that I had dreamed about for so long, that when they arrived and I saw the room come together, it was magic. Our monogram was splashed all over the wedding and now, our home. It’s traditional, but fresh. For Colby, his favorite detail was his Rolling Stones-themed grooms cake and the home-brewed Honey Basil Wheat Ale that he brewed as our favors! It was a huge hit!
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding?
Keeping all the families happy (also known as the battle of the bride’s side versus the groom’s side). I won’t go into detail, but make sure that when you talk to each side of the family, that you make sure they know the wedding is about you and your fiancé, and the joining of two families, not anything or anyone else. We had a few moments of sheer insanity a week out and it was really hard to look past that. Luckily for everyone, we decided not to run off and elope! The wedding went on blissfully and even if certain people decided not to speak to us the entire weekend of the wedding, it was perfect!
What range did your wedding budget fall into?
$25,000-$50,000
What is the one thing you are most happy you splurged on?
Lighting and our videographer. We waited until about two weeks before the wedding to add lighting and it really transformed the room. I couldn’t have imagined our reception without it! Our videographer was amazing. At the end of the day, you’re left with photos and video. Photos are amazing, but seeing and hearing the day is even better!
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? Colby’s favorite moments are a tie between seeing me walk down the aisle and leaving up the stairs in a swarm of flutter-fetti while everyone cheered for us. For me, if was standing in front of all our family and friends saying our vows. It was such a special moment.
What advice do you have for folks currently planning a wedding? Relax, don’t procrastinate, go with your instinct, and if you can afford to do something you really love, splurge. You’ll regret it if you don’t. Also during planning, stop every now and then to remember WHY you are getting married. Planning has a tendency to get carried out of control. Once a month or so, Colby and I would go to the ceremony site and talk about how excited we were to be spending the rest of our lives together.
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future?
2012 was a BIG year for us! We got married, settled, and uprooted! In December we moved to the Bay Area for Colby’s new job. For now, we are enjoying being married, traveling and exploring our new home! Starting a family is in the future, just not anytime soon. We have our hands full with our two dogs right now!

Let’s start with a secret, y’all. When my husband and I registered for our own wedding gifts, we registered for only black and white items. My thought was that we didn’t have a home at the time and this way everything would match with my future stylings. Let’s be honest, the real reason we did this is because I’m obsessed with black and white. It’s classic, sophisticated and oh-so-chic! Much like Meridith + Patrick’s wedding! I’m smitten with their black, white and cameo pink color palette, but also the incredibly sweet details M + P incorporated into their big day. Especially the needlepoint silhouettes Meredith’s mama made, and her grandmother’s banana bread with Texas pecans in the welcome bags. And of course some good ol’ Blue Bell Ice cream!

We’re so glad Alyse French was on hand to capture this gorgeous fete!

I am not a girl to spend months trying on dress after dress after dress. A perpetual list crosser-offer, I was on a mission to find “the dress.” In one day. With my mom and best friend (and dad!) in tow. My only criteria was that it wasn’t overly ornate or something that would date. The December after our engagement, I came home to Houston for a long weekend for my mom’s birthday and while there, made appointments at three different bridal boutiques. I found a viable option during the first appointment and an even better — timeless meets preppy with pockets — option at the second. I didn’t have an emotional, teary-eyed moment, but definitely thought the dress was unique and reflective of my personal style. It felt right. Yet, we had one more appointment to go. After a massive (but comical) fail at the third boutique, I immediately called back the second — just minutes before their five o’clock closing time — to see if we could come back immediately to buy the dress. With luck and the kindness of our amazingly wonderful stylist, Fortunata, at Belle Mariee, we were able to procure the dress and open some bubbly, all the while meeting my goal of securing “the dress” in one day.

Did you decide to do a “first look”? Why or why not?
Patrick and I did decide to do a first look for a couple reasons. First off, this is a really exciting moment for a bride and groom and one that we wanted to capture not only in our minds, but also in photographs, forever. Our church had photographer restrictions in the sanctuary, so a first look best enabled us to capture that moment up-close-and-personal. Second, it really helped with the flow of events for the day and alleviated some pressure on our timeline after the ceremony. We took bridal party photos in addition to the first look before the ceremony, which worked out really well.

Our favorite detail of the wedding was: I think we have a tie for two different reasons. For its symbolism, we really liked the tartan hair flower I changed into for the reception because it was made from the tartan of Patrick’s family’s Scottish clan. It represented the transformation of my joining his family through our marriage. For its sentimentality, we really liked the needlepoint silhouettes my mom made that hung from our chairs at the reception. It was really special to have this handmade touch from my mom at the wedding, and we are still enjoying them now because they are hanging above each side of our bed at home.
What Southern details or traditions did you include in your celebration? What was Southern about your wedding? When we first started planning the wedding, some of our biggest priorities were making sure that out-of-town guests felt at home, that family traditions were honored and that everyone had a really good time. In other words, that the event was chock-full of Southern (and Texas) hospitality. Sure, we also included many traditionally Southern details — Bluebell ice cream, seersucker bow ties for the groomsmen, pearls for the bridesmaids, “Texas” alcohol in the bar, Brennan’s pralines as favors and my grandmother’s banana bread with Texas pecans in the welcome bags — but I really hope what stays with guests the most is the genuine hospitality they received and a new or rekindled appreciation for both the history and modernization of the South.

Did you write your own vows? We didn’t write our own vows, however we did ask that our minister use the vows from the Book of Common Prayer, which is slightly different from the vows in the Presbyterian Church. The language from the Book of Common Prayer is both clear and weighty: “…To have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until we are parted by death. This is my solemn vow.” That last part just has so much gravity and weight to it, reinforcing that you’re making this vow not just to your spouse but also to the Lord.
What readings, if any, did you have at your ceremony? We tried to choose scriptures that brought to life several angles of God’s vision and design for marriage, so we had passages that spoke to Creation (Genesis 2: 4-7, 18-24), God’s love (1 John 4: 7-16), and the parallels between earthly marriage and that of Christ and the Church in eternity (Ephesians 5: 1-2, 21-33). We had two of our uncles and one aunt read these passages during the ceremony, so it was really meaningful for us.

Describe your wedding flowers: A black and white wedding couldn’t be complete without anemones, so we ended up using a blend of anemones and black berries to bring a “pop” of black to the bridesmaids’ otherwise white bouquets of vendella roses and hydrangeas. They were also used in Patrick’s boutonniere and the reception centerpieces with peonies, O’Hare roses, and hydrangeas. We wrapped the bridesmaids’ bouquets in black and white striped grosgrain ribbon, which was a detail we carried out in several places throughout the wedding. Our centerpieces were one of our favorite decor touches. We had two variations: three clusters of varying heights in black milk glass vessels, and fun black candelabras that gave several tables more height without obstructing guests’ views across each table. My bridal bouquet was also a lovely blend of peonies, Ella garden roses and hydrangeas with dusty miller, all wrapped in a blush satin ribbon to which we affixed my family’s gold wishbone pin. All of the women on my dad’s maternal side of the family (or marrying into it) have worn this on their wedding day, so it was really special to be a part of that tradition.

I’ve always loved Pachelbel’s Canon in D — it reminds me of ballet class from growing up — so my bridesmaids walked into the church with the organist playing this piece. My dad walked me down the aisle as Clarke’s Trumpet Voluntary was played — a traditional choice, but we wanted a pretty traditional ceremony. For the recessional however, we followed a bagpiper, playing a traditional Scottish score called Scotland the Brave, down the aisle and out of the church. Patrick’s family roots are in Scotland, so having a bagpiper incorporated into the ceremony was a surprise that was meant to honor his family. At the reception, our bridal party entered to the up-beat song Walking on Sunshine, and Patrick and I entered to Nat King Cole’s “L-O-V-E,” a favorite of Patrick’s. Although most of our decisions erred on the side of timelessness, one that could date was our choice for the first dance, “Lucky” by Jason Mraz with Colbie Caillat. The lyrics and score are just so darn cute and meaningful for us, and it was really fun to dance to! My dance with my dad was to Heartland’s “I Loved Her First,” which was a sentimental but appropriate choice for a girl who grew up on country music. We closed the night dancing to Lady Antebellum’s “We Owned the Night” — a really energizing way to end the evening and one of Patrick’s and my mutual favorite bands right now.

Describe your wedding cake or dessert: Being from the Midwest, Patrick didn’t have the same desire for a groom’s cake that Southern guys do, however he also wasn’t a fan of the almond cake I fell in LOOOVE with during our tasting. What’s a bride to do? Add chocolate to the wedding cake. Within each tier of cake, we had an almond layer and milk chocolate layer sandwiching chocolate buttercream frosting and enveloped by a buttercream exterior inspired by the pintuck detail from my dress. It was the perfect compromise for our wedding cake.

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. I grew up in Texas and moved to Chicago in 2006 after graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Meanwhile, Patrick grew up in Chicago and, after graduating from Miami of Ohio, life took him to Africa, Texas and Notre Dame before returning him to Chicago in 2009. In May of 2010, we both — not having met yet — found ourselves attending a singles weekend retreat with our church in Lake Geneva, WI. As providence would have it, we both decided to join a group of friends-of-friends to rent a boat one day during the long weekend. We had actually eyed each other the day prior while playing ultimate Frisbee, but it wasn’t until we were on the boat that we had a chance to really talk and connect. Chemistry was instantaneous and after some expert sleuthing skills on Patrick’s part to get my phone number, we immediately started hanging out back in Chicago.
Describe the proposal. Patrick’s first visit to my home in Houston was in August of 2011. At that point, we had discussed engagement, but I knew before he would officially propose, he would talk with my parents. So, we arrived in Houston and after settling in, I took Patrick on a driving tour of my favorite Houston hot spots. On our way home, we swung by a local bakery to pick up a dessert that my mom had ordered (supposedly). Patrick offered to run inside for the dessert so I could stay cool in the car. He came back with a HUGE black and white hat box tied with a bright pink ribbon. I was suspicious, but again, didn’t think it could really be happening. We got home and my parents were strangely not there. Patrick insisted that I (an obstinate, unwavering rule-follower) open the dessert box. Of course, I said no. But he insisted and gave me a look like I really needed to just open the box. I did and I saw that our dessert was in the form of cupcakes spelling out “Will U Marry Me.” Patrick dropped to one knee and said some of the sweetest words a girl could ever hear. Of course, I immediately said “yes” and we called my parents so they could come back home and the celebrating could officially begin. It turns out that Patrick had asked my parents’ permission the month prior while they were visiting us in Chicago – completely unbeknownst to me.

What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? Planning a wedding long-distance while having a demanding full time job was definitely a big challenge. I couldn’t be more thankful and appreciative of everything Natalie and Ashley at Two Be Wed did throughout the planning process and on the big day to bring our vision to life and make sure everything was executed flawlessly. I would also be remiss not to be eternally grateful for my mom’s help on the ground in Houston and her ability to step in when I wasn’t able to handle things. Planning a wedding in general is a big challenge, and I was very lucky to have a solid support system to help throughout the process.
What is the one thing you are most happy you splurged on? Finding the right reception venue was one of our earliest challenges in the planning process. We were torn between a less expensive venue and one that would cost more. The less expensive venue would have freed up money to do other things but also required more investment to transform the setting into what we had envisioned. The more expensive venue would leave less money for “extras” but require less transformation to achieve our vision. We ultimately went with the more expensive venue and at the end of the day, we couldn’t have been happier because the food was not only fantastic, but the setting was exactly what we were looking for — traditional with a modern sensibility.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? We had a lot of memorable moments, but the most meaningful was probably our vows. In that moment, everything else slips away and you just look into each other’s eyes with all of the excitement and gravity of the moment, making the most significant vow you’ll ever make to your best friend in the whole world, in front of God and everyone who matters the most in your life. It’s thrilling and emotional and weighty all at the same time, and something you can never forget.
What advice do you have for folks currently planning a wedding? Create a vision up-front and stick to it; decision-making is easier if you know what the overall aesthetic goal is. Also, avoid the temptation to over-saturate your brain with wedding stuff. Catch up with friends. Enjoy life. Don’t drive yourself crazy by continually second-guessing decisions because you’ve seen yet another new pin on Pinterest (aside: I didn’t join Pinterest until after the wedding because I knew I couldn’t handle the additional sea of ideas. Don’t get me wrong, Pinterest is awesome. But know yourself well enough to know your limits and create some boundaries).
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? At 120+ days in and counting, we’re still trying to get settled in at home; I feel like we have piles of randomness in every corner of our condo that need to be sorted through and either tossed or put away. But it’s been such a fun journey so far! It’s so great to wake up next to your best friend every morning and come home to them at night — to always have someone there to talk to (or just be with) and support you in every way. In 2013, we’re hoping to take a big step forward in adult responsibilities and get a puppy :) We are REALLY excited about this prospect. In the longer term future, I think we’re just really excited to see where life takes us, together. We literally have no idea where life will lead but we’re really excited to face everything together with the confidence that we’re not in this alone on several levels.

Ooh, y’all! I am SO tickled to be blogging the first wedding from our latest issue, Southern Weddings Volume 5! If you haven’t gotten your hands on this beauty, order here!

Let me first start by saying I feel like I’m a kindred spirit to Kalen + Parks, as their “meet-cute” involves the words “Roll Tide!” AND Parks was a college baseball player. Change a few details, and you’ve got a similar exchange from when my husband and I first clapped eyes on each other!

Though I love the rest of their story and y’all should absolutely read it below, let’s get on to the absolutely divine details of this sweet Southern soiree! Kalen and Parks chose the Old Edwards Inn in the mountains of North Carolina, making theirs a destination wedding for both them and their guests. They chose it in part because they wanted to make a memory at a new destination that they could return to for anniversaries for years to come, which I love! Kalen and her super-talented planner Calder Clark teamed up with Blossoms Events to create one of the most lush and detail-filled events we’ve ever seen, and we can’t wait to share it in two parts today. By the way, gigantic thanks to Jeremy at Harwell Photography, a true gentleman for capturing every (pink) detail in stunning style!

How about those metallic foil + pink invites?? You are just the bee’s knees, Cheree Berry!

What was the design inspiration for your wedding? Girly-girl meets rock ‘n’ roll.
Why was this design special to you as a couple? We both come from very laid-back families. For us, it’s more about who you are with then what you are eating on. While our moms have very impressive china collections, it is not uncommon to see us eating on a paper plate during holidays with a can of Bud Light (my family) or Miller Lite (Parks’ family). I think our wedding represented that. It was homey and comfortable, much like our families. There was never a stuffy moment about the wedding. It was elegant, yet functional and touchable. Calder did such a great job on making it so “us.”
What were your wedding colors? Gold, gray, and tonal shades of pink, from blush to bubblegum.

My favorite part of finding my wedding dress was the weekends I got to spend with my mom and sister in NYC on the hunt. All three of us went up the first time and after three appointments and knowing only that I wanted lace, we found the one I loved at Pronovias. I knew that it could get better. While the dress came with patches of lace, I wanted them to fill it in completely. Against that romantic lace, I thought inconspicuous glimmers of sparkle would give it the perfect “me” touch. We went to the garment district on the hunt for sparkle and ended up finding itty bitty little Swarovski crystals. Pronovias graduated them through the dress, heavier at the bottom and lighter at the top. While the dress was amazing, my favorite part was the adventures that it gave my mom, sister and I with the multiple trips to NYC for fittings.

Bouquet perfection in pink! Kalen’s bouquet recipe included lisianthus, peonies, assorted garden roses, stephanotis vine, blushing bride, astilbe, maiden hair fern, and dusty miller. Her maids’ included lisianthus, peonies, assorted garden roses, astilbe, maiden hair fern, dusty miller, and phalaenopsis orchids.

Describe your bridesmaids’ dresses. My mom actually bought the dress from Anthropologie for a holiday party. The second she pulled it out, she gasped and said “Kalen, I found the perfect bridesmaid dress for you!” I wanted a neutral color with gold, but I absolutely did not want it to be from a wedding store. So I dug hard and found the dress for my girls. It was perfect and pulled all of the elements of the wedding together. I remember that once we found them, I felt like I could actually visualize all of us standing up there and everything coming together.

What did the groomsmen wear? Our Groomsmen wore the Vera Wang tux from her new men’s line, “Black.” The groomsmen were hard. I wanted them to look dressy enough to match the wedding, but didn’t want them to look overdressed and stuffy. The new tux from Vera doesn’t have silk lapels, and so I felt that was the best option. We also had custom Vineyard Vines ties with little sneaks and boots on them. Being that I have a boot store and Parks has a running store, our friends often call us Sneaks ‘n Boots. I gave my bridesmaids boots at the bridesmaids’ luncheon as a thank you, and Parks gave our groomsmen custom sneakers from Nike. The guys changed right after the ceremony into their bright kicks. So Parks!

Favorite design element of your big day: The flowers! Holy cow! How does one find that many perfectly-bloomed flowers?! I absolutely loved the romanticism of the flowers, the antique china and the lace and pearls mixed up with raw, rustic wood. It represented our families perfectly. We are all very traditional people and very wholesome people, but there is a pistol inside of all of us. Both of my parents and Parks’ parents, all of our siblings and Parks and I will give you the shirt off our backs, but we will also fight like hell for each other. I think the girly, romantic feel of the wedding mixed with the raw, wholesome elements played off of each other perfectly.

Holy moly!! Can you just imagine looking up, and seeing those gorgeous blooms as you said your vows? I’m not sure I could concentrate!

What was the most memorable or touching moment about your wedding day? Parks says it was seeing me walk down the aisle. I would say just being together. Parks and I never left each other’s sides so that we would have all the same memories of the night. Every dance and every moment was special. We soaked every second in.

Guess what, y’all… there is more coming a little later from this beauty!

Occupations: We both own retail stores. Parks has a running specialty store that offers anything a runner would need and currently has six locations. I have a boutique in Tampa that has a country theme, selling the latest in fashion trends along with cowboy boots.
How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. My mom had been wanting to start running, but her feet always hurt, so we stumbled into Fit2Run. Parks was working the floor that day and started helping my mom find the perfect shoe. Parks said he had played baseball at Georgia, so I replied with a “Roll Tide.” Parks said his parents went to Alabama and my mom said, “she has a bulldog!” Parks had a bulldog, too, so we started showing pictures of them. My mom then continued to drill him with questions. He answered every one of her questions perfectly to meet her dating criteria for her daughter. She asked him about politics, religion, family values, and hobbies. After two hours of “shoe shopping” with Parks and realizing we both had retail in common, he asked for my number. He called me the next day and we met up at the Bucs game that weekend. I had my sister with me and he was with all of his brothers. We hung out there, and the next night he took me on the best first date I’ve ever had on Clearwater Beach. We have been together every day since and the rest is history.
Describe the proposal: July of 2011, Parks took me to Grand Cayman for a few days away from work. Everything about the location, time, and atmosphere was so fun and perfect that I was never expecting a proposal. I just completely forgot about it. Tuesday, we hung out on the beach all day and Parks insisted that we go for a run before we went to dinner. I had been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the new Nike Lunarglide when Parks said he had a present and pulled them out of his suitcase. I put them on and said “Let’s go!” He told me to put a Nike chip in my shoe since he didn’t think the GPS would work. I took the shoe off and opened the hole where the chip goes. Still not seeing anything, I handed him the shoe. He insisted I put the chip in myself. When I finally looked in the shoe, my ring was inside of the hole. Parks then got down on one knee and of course, I said yes. It was perfect..
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Romantic, enchanted, and most importantly, FUN!
What was the weather like on your big day? Warm and sunny with clear skies and a mountain breeze.
How many guests attended your wedding? 210 people attended the wedding weekend events, which included a rehearsal dinner, the ceremony and reception, an after party, and a farewell brunch.
Who participated in your ceremony? A great friend of our family, Jack Taylor married us. It meant so much to me to have someone special do that for us. One of my best friends, Evie, read the Apache blessing during the ceremony.
Who was one of the most special guests at your wedding? Each and every person was special. It meant so much to us that so many people came from so far to celebrate our wedding. What a blessing it is that we have so many family and friends and such a great support system.

This was hands down my favorite real wedding in V5! I fell head over heels for the floral design- especially the ceiling details in the ceremony and the lined entrway at the reception. The mint julep cups, the champagne jello shots, the draping, and the lounge seating also stole my heart.

I’m also so happy to hear the bride’s perspective in this post. I love the story of how they met and I now finally understand those fun sneakers on the groomsmen! Such a lovely story :)

Eeep! I couldn’t agree more, Jessica. I died over the groomsmen and their sneakers. Totally something my husband would have LOVED to have done. And of course the floral design blew me away!
