Happy Martin Luther King Jr Day, y’all! Since it’s a holiday, there’s significantly less for me to do today. Therefore, my top priority will be Pinterest. Is anyone else obsessed with this thing?? Sometimes I pin up to ten things before breakfast! Next on my pins? Today’s bride, Elise’s gorgeous veil and shiny vintage car. It’s perfect inspiration for my dreams of speeding off into the sunset with my future hubby as my veil billows gracefully in the wind. (In reality, my veil will probably tear out of my hair and spin wildly in the car like a loose plastic bag. Yikes. We’ll nix the veil for the grand exit, as most brides do.)

Thankfully, Elise + Matt did not have this problem. Elise looked graceful as ever as she said her “I do’s” to Matt. Her bridesmaids’ turquoise dresses were a pop of color in their bright church and the line of lush white flowers at the altar were an elegant addition to the space. Big thanks to Whitebox Weddings for sharing this with us!

Erin McLean gave us a few insider details about the wedding:

“Elise and Matt are a classic couple with great style and elegance. The bride is from North Carolina and when she and Matt got engaged in New York City, where they reside, she knew High Point Country Club was the perfect location for her wedding.

“I presented the couple with some design ideas to choose from. They chose to go with a peacock blue, shades of pink, and silver palette. The ‘maids wore cocktail length dresses and carried lush bouquets of peonies and garden roses in varying shades of pink. Elise carried a cream and ivory version for her bouquet. It was the perfect complement to her gorgeous gown.

“Matt and Elise read their personal vows in her family’s church in front of 350 of their family and friends. The altar was adorned with a white and cream floral runner that spanned the entire front of the church. It was highlighted by candlelight. It was a gorgeous complement to the bridesmaids colorful dresses and bouquets.”

See that first shot by Crystal Genes Photography? Adorable. And those wicker basket favors? Also adorable. I love the gold doilies that were tied on — just an added touch of glam! Britt + Heath and A Plum Perfect Affair worked together to create a reception at The Hotel Concord that would make the Steel Magnolias women proud. The pink and lace details decked the room and looked especially sweet combined with the couple’s pie bar! Britt’s mom arranged a special appearance from the Carolina Panther’s mascot, Sir Purr, who had everyone “hog wild dancing all night!” No one would have ever expected that the wedding lived through a changed wedding photographer (the couple’s first double-booked the day, but it worked out for the best!), broken bridal portraits, a chipped front tooth hours before the wedding, a wrong linen order, and a missing cake topper among other things!

Describe your wedding flowers: I knew I had to have peonies but the florist said they probably wouldn’t be available that late in the season. Luckily, it turns out that they were! My bridesmaids had ivory bouquets with small sprays of feathers, tied together with a black lace bow. My bouquet was the same except had splashes of blush and bashful (just like Shelby from Steel Magnolias!) peonies and was tied with an ivory lace bow. The groomsmen wore freesia boutonnières and the mothers carried a smaller version of my bouquet.
Describe your wedding cake or dessert: We had a pie bar with peach pie, pecan pie and apple pie. Our wedding cake was two tiered red velvet with buttercream frosting.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? Everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong. We went through three venue changes, and then our first wedding photographer double-booked the day, but we were so glad that happened because we ended up with the best! On the day of, we had broken bridal portraits, a chipped front tooth hours before the wedding, a wrong linen order, and a missing cake topper among other things! I dealt with it and everything worked out perfectly!
What range did your wedding budget fall into? $20,000
What is the one thing you are most happy you splurged on? Without a doubt, the photographer. My Dad and I decided on this fact before deciding anything else. It was actually the only thing I splurged on and boy was it worth it. After all, the pictures are what you have to remember this day forever. Crystal and Ben are amazingly talented and were absolutely wonderful to work with!
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? When my Dad and I were standing behind the church doors getting ready to walk, he said, “I’ll race ya!” It was a line from one of our favorite movies that only we would appreciate, and perfect for the situation. Right then the doors opened and I got to have my daddy, the model of what a husband should be, help me turn the page to the next chapter in my life.
Did you write your own vows? If so, what was your favorite phrase, verse or line? No. But the Bible verse from our wedding was 1 Peter 4:8: “Above all, love each other deeply, for love covers a multitude of sins.”
What advice do you have for folks currently planning a wedding? Enjoy the process. Don’t get your feathers ruffled about the little things. After all the mishaps we went through, I am a testament to the fact that it’ll all work out!
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? We are enjoying our time together as husband and wife! Now that the stress of the wedding planning is over, we can get back to all our favorite things to do together: playing board games/Wii, throwing the football, grocery shopping and yard work! We are looking forward to kids someday, but we’ll enjoy spoiling our nephews for now!

What a happy, happy wedding! Stephanie + Erik chose pink and red as their wedding colors and then let wedding stylist Ginny Branch Stelling take the reigns with flowers. I love it when couples and vendors build such a trusting relationship and the gorgeous bouquets are only a portion of the pretty proof that it paid off. The rest of the wedding was styled by Ginny, who the couple chose to work with over a planner. Stephanie was happy to plan the logistics of the big day but left the translation of her vision to Ginny. Those cute balloons and the streamer-decorated ceremony? So adorable. Read on to find out what S + E said in their hand-written vows. Even sweeter! Big thanks to Kate Byars for sharing this colorful wedding!

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. Erik and I met while in school at Georgia Tech. We dated briefly in college, and were friends for a few years before Erik moved into the building next door to me and we started dating again. The rest is history!
Describe the proposal. We take a big two-week trip every year. Last summer, we spent two weeks driving the ring road around Iceland. We spent our days hiking around volcanoes, visiting fishing villages, and swimming in the blue lagoon. It was the trip of a lifetime, made even better by Erik’s proposal in front of a bright orange lighthouse, on a cliff overlooking a black sand beach. We were the only people for miles and it was the most perfect, intimate surprise!
Tell us about your engagement and wedding rings: Erik and I went the non-traditional route with our rings. I knew that I wanted a colored stone engagement ring and absolutely fell in love with Becky Kelso’s designs. I gave Erik and little hint while we were dating and he worked with Becky to design my blue calcite in yellow gold engagement ring. It is perfect! We found my wedding ring unexpectedly at a small boutique jeweler on a trip to Portland, Oregon. It’s designed by Alex Sepkus and features lots of diamonds around a yellow gold band. I love it’s eclectic/mid-century look. For Erik’s ring, it was important to him to have an eco-friendly ring, so we used an environmentally conscious designer in Philadelphia that works with reclaimed metal to create his hammered palladium ring.
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Personal, charming, fun.
In what month did you get married? October
How many guests attended your wedding? 145
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: The photo booth! Our guests had SO MUCH FUN.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: I knew I wanted a vintage glam dress from the very beginning. I went to a few bridal stores in Atlanta and was having a hard time finding a dress I loved. I ended up finding Matthew Christopher online and fell in love with his dresses. Unfortunately, there is only one store in Georgia that sells his designs and they didn’t have the dress I wanted. Luckily, I spend a lot of time in New York City for work, so I was able to visit a small boutique in the meat packing district while on a work trip and try on the dress. I fell in love immediately and ordered it. It was hard since I bought it without any of my friends or family seeing it on me, but I knew it was the perfect dress. When it was ready, they shipped it to Atlanta and I had my closest friends and family over to see it in person. It made for a very fun and exciting day.
Describe your wedding flowers: Erik and I have a pretty eclectic taste, so we didn’t want to be “pigeon holed” by any of our decisions. We wanted the wedding to be a true representation of the two of us. We opted to use shades of red and pink as our wedding colors and I gave Ginny Branch free reign to choose the types of flowers we would have. I just wanted them to look elegant with a vintage vibe. She chose a beautiful mixture of locally sourced flowers that pulled in all the colors of our wedding.
Did you write your own vows? If so, what was your favorite phrase, verse or line? We wrote part of our vows and also included portions of other ceremonies that we found and we liked. This was my favorite part, which we each said to each other “Erik, I promise to be your faithful and loving wife,
to cherish your intellect and uniqueness, to delight in your happiness and comfort you in sorrow, to communicate openly and honestly and to listen carefully, to support and encourage you, and to be your eager partner in exploring the things we have yet to learn and places we have yet to go. My love is yours now, and for all the days before us.”
