Happy early Valentine’s Day, my dear friends!! We’re always full of love in the office, but today we’re especially excited since this wedding is a red, pink and purple beauty.

When I first saw Valerie + Kevin’s wedding, a few thoughts popped into my mind. First, Valerie is a beautiful bride (and I immediately started singing Amy Winehouse when I heard her name). Second, how gorgeous are those mixed hues of pink dresses? Third, string lights win. Every time. You’d be surprised to know that those lovely ladies flanking Valerie aren’t her bridesmaids. With such a huge group of close friends, the bride chose to keep the wedding party to just family, but invited her girlfriends to wear their choice of dress in any shade of pink. Genius!

Valerie + Kevin’s wedding was so full of great images that we couldn’t fit them all in this post! Be sure to check out their Real Wedding Gallery for all of them.

Valerie + Kevin’s wedding was chock full of handmade charm. Family and friends created all of the decor and centerpieces. The cake tablecloth and custom pillows were made by Valerie’s mom and the sand dollar favors were collected by the flower girls and ring bearer from a nearby beach! And see that driftwood cake stand? It’s actually a mirror that was made for the bride and groom as a wedding present and now hangs in their home. So sweet, right?

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. In April of 2009, we met through a mutual friend in Atlanta, where we were both living at the time.
Describe the proposal. On Sunday evening, November 28, while I was visiting Kevin and his family in Saint Simons Island and Sea Island in Georgia, we had plans to go to dinner at The Lodge with his brother and sister-in-law. On our way to dinner, Kevin turned to go to Sea Island and I quickly asked, “Where were we going?” Kevin said that since we hadn’t had a lot of alone time over the weekend or a chance to take our ritual walk on the beach in front of his mother’s home, he thought we’d go now before dinner and enjoy the sunset. I then realized he was playing our favorite tunes on the radio, he was wearing the tie I had given him on his birthday a few days before, and the fact that we never went for our ritual walk on the beach all dressed up! I did not want to get my hopes up in case this was not the moment, though. We parked the car and walked to the beach and within a few minutes of our walk, he kneeled on one knee and proposed. It was wonderful and a beautiful evening. We then called my family back in Louisiana with the exciting news and went to dinner where all of his family gathered to celebrate the special occasion with us.
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Fun, celebration and beautiful scenery.
In what month did you get married? June
How many guests attended your wedding? 140
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: the lights over the dance floor at the outdoor reception underneath the live oaks and Spanish moss
Describe your wedding flowers: Casablanca lilies, stargazing lilies, hydrangeas, roses, peonies and snapdragons where all used in arrangements. My bouquet contained Casablanca lilies, white hydrangeas and white roses. The overall color scheme was very natural with lots of white and pops of hot pink. We put the flowers in antique tin creamers purchased at Scott’s Antique Market in Atlanta, antique Mason jars from my mother’s collection and oversized silver mint julep cups. All the flowers were arranged by friends and family.
What Southern details or traditions did you include in your celebration? What was Southern about your wedding? Our gift bags included local Georgia Peanuts and homemade oatmeal raisin cookies by my mom, mason jars served as glassware for cocktails, sweet tea and fresh squeezed pink lemonade. As per the wedding tradition, I wore a silver sixpence in my shoe for good luck. Our save the dates had a piece of loose burlap monogrammed with the date on it, which carried over to the wedding day where we used burlap in the boutonnieres and center pieces of the tables. A quilt made by my grandmother and great grandmother served as a table linen at the sign-in table and antique lace from my mom’s wedding gown was used to make the ring bearer pillow. Food was served on an antique wagon that was restored by the Kevin. Additionally, the entire wedding weekend took place at Southern locations. Thursday evening, we went on a shrimp boat cruise with family and out-of-town guests that arrived early. Friday evening, the rehearsal dinner was on the lawn of Kevin’s parent’s home on Sea Island and featured crawfish etouffee and jambalaya, native food from Louisiana where the my parents live, and local seafood from the coast of Georgia. The wedding reception site was on the same property, 10 acres covered in live oaks, Spanish moss, palmetto’s and Tabby Ruins.
What range did your wedding budget fall into? $50,000-$75,000
What is the one thing you are most happy you splurged on? Our photographer, Melissa Schollaert.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? Arriving to the wedding reception site with my husband in an antique 1915 Model-T Ford that my uncle owned and was driving. Then, getting out of the car and walking to the dance floor with Kevin holding my hand the entire way. As we began our first dance, the sun was setting over the river and marsh. A little while later when the sun was almost completely set, the lead singer of the band called an impromptu toast and drew the guests’ attention to the sunset and said “this looks like something in a movie scene” The timing was impeccable and just as I had envisioned.
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? Having a family, learning the ways of life in the low country and sharing that with friends, and traveling together.

Happy Monday, y’all! If you’re off to a bit of a slow start like I am, maybe today’s wedding will help get you in the spirit! (You know, the Monday-Funday spirit.)

Shelley + Greg’s wedding is fun, indeed! Is anyone else crazy for Shelley’s white “getting ready” dress and her adorable monogram and flower-adorned bag? It’s a good sign when you’re finding things you love in a wedding before the bride even puts on her wedding gown! (Shelley’s gown is actually her second white dress. Her first was ruined by the cleaners after her bridal portraits — yikes!) We’re loving the big pink bouquets and boutonnieres and the striped details, from the groomsmen’s custom ties to the wedding programs. Cheers to Virgil Bunao Photography who shared this fun wedding with us!

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. We actually met on match.com. Greg is from Cary, NC where I was born and we learned that we even went to the same pediatrician when we were infants! Greg drove down to Charleston last October for us to meet and we clicked immediately. We had an amazing weekend together and I knew that weekend that Greg was the man I wanted to marry. He met my family and all of my parents’ friends the following weekend and they, of course, loved him. Greg and I make a perfect team together as husband and wife and as friends.
Describe the proposal. Greg proposed to me at my parents’ house in Ohio on December 23. We were able to celebrate with my family until Christmas day and then flew to Cary to celebrate Christmas and our engagement with Greg’s family.
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Nostalgically Southern, beautiful, and fun.
In what month did you get married? July
How many guests attended your wedding? 115
What Southern details or traditions did you include in your celebration? What was Southern about your wedding? We love pink and green. The guys all wore khaki suits with custom made pink and green ties from M. Dumas & Sons. The girls kept it simple in pink J.Crew dresses and wedge heels, while the four children in the wedding wore custom-made seersucker john johns in green and dresses in pink with their monogrammed initials on the front. We wanted the entire day to be Southern and detail-oriented so we also provided pink and green flip flops in galvanized buckets, custom-made bottled water, pink and green koozies, pink and white striped ceremony programs, bamboo fans, monogrammed pink and green matchbooks for the sparklers, and more.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: To make a long story short, I ended up with the most perfect wedding dress just two weeks before my wedding. My wedding dress was ruined by the cleaners after my bridal portrait shoot and I was forced to find a replacement dress, which I wanted it to look as much like my original dress as possible. Lula Kate had a sample very similar to my original Lula Kate dress, but it was too tight for me. I took the dress to my seamstress and she worked magic. She lowered the back on the replacement dress to make it more comfortable and Lula Kate rush ordered a replacement sash to make my wedding day dress better than I could have imagined.
Describe your wedding flowers: Breath taking! Whitney far exceeded our expectations and we will never forget the flowers on our wedding day. We told her that we love pink and green and love tulips, peonies, and hydrangea. Whitney hit a home run with the flowers. She even brought a beautiful pink peony for me in a mason jar for the girls to put in my hair for the reception. I loved it!

It’s always a sweet reminder to read about couple’s love stories that are as beautiful as their weddings. Suzanne + Keith’s is one of pure serendipity. They met poolside in Florida but didn’t realize until after they started dating that they had been at the same place at the same time many instances before! We think it’s wonderful that, though Suzanne was diagnosed with breast cancer exactly a month after she and Keith exchanged “I Do’s,” they have found many blessings in unexpected places and believe their obstacles make their relationship even stronger. I love that the cheery coral bridesmaids’ dresses and blue hydrangea bouquets remind of us how happy weddings are! Suzanne looked lovely in lace and gentle curls. I’m smitten with her ivory-colored sash and bouquet with magnolias and exposed stems. Another thing we’re crazy for? Their beautiful church ceremony and bagpipes! Big hugs and thanks to Ali Harper for sharing this one with us!

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. (From the groom) If you believe in fate or serendipity, then this story will be for you. A week before Memorial Day, Suzanne decided she needed a break from Atlanta and headed down to Ponte Vedra, Florida. I had some friends going to Ponte Vedra, too, and headed down with them the next day. Both of us used Marriott points to pay for the rooms, so it was no coincidence we were staying at the same place. That Sunday, my friends and I decided to hit the pool instead of going to the beach. There were only a couple of chairs by the pool, next to some lovely ladies. Lo and behold, this beautiful girl on the right would be my soul mate. It only took one little question to have her hook, line and sinker. “Can I borrow some sun tan lotion and can you put it on my back?” The rest, as they say, is history. As we later found out, we lived in Vail, Colorado at the same time and never met. She has pictures with her girlfriends at festivals and you can see me in the background. Our families grew up singing the same songs, in college, her brother-in-law and I played soccer against each other, and the list goes on and on. The stars were aligned that day in Ponte Vedra!
Describe the proposal. (From the groom) Suzanne was in Louisiana for Christmas and I had already decided that I was going to propose around that time. My plan was to ask her when I picked her up from the airport on December 26. I wanted to create a beach scene, and hide the ring in a bottle of sun tan lotion. With the help from my sister and mom, I created a scene with beach chairs, towels, and sand toys. I had tea lights leading the way to the chairs. Suzanne’s flight was supposed to be in around 7, but it didn’t land until after 10. She was sick and wasn’t in a great mood from the flight delays, but I knew she would be happy in a just few minutes. She opened the door, and to her surprise was the beach scene. I asked if she would sit down, and I gave her a giftwrapped bottle of sunscreen. The ring was in the cap and I got down on one knee. It couldn’t have gone better, she said YES!
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Exciting, magical, perfect
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: My mom and sisters all went shopping in New Orleans and found the perfect dress.
Describe your wedding flowers: My bouquet had white roses, hydrangeas, and magnolias with exposed stems. My bridesmaids had beautiful large blue hydrangea bouquets.
