Our Monthly Real Wedding Round-Ups are always one of my favorites to put together and write. Taking a look back on October and November’s weddings with Sierra and Whitney was so much fun. We love so many things about each of the weddings we post, and rediscovering the highlights from them makes our hearts happy and our Pinterest boards fill up. Without further ado, let’s take a look!

FAVORITE WEDDING DRESS: With a dreamy fabric, sweet straps and a bow in the back, Whitney couldn’t resist Marilisa’s dress. Suzanne’s lacy white gown with a creamy sash took Sierra’s vote, while I couldn’t help but add Ashley’s rosette and bow-backed dress to my list of highlights.

FAVORITE BRIDESMAID DRESS: Of course, we had to give major kudos to the lovely ladies who stood by our brides’ sides on their big day. The neutral-hued and mix-and-match dresses that Ashley’s ‘maids sported caught my eye. Caroline’s pink and green bridesmaids’ dresses were a favorite of Sierra’s and it was the bright coral frocks from Suzanne’s wedding that won Whitney over.

FAVORITE FEMALE ACCESSORY: Being the classic Southern gal that she is, Whitney was smitten with Ashley’s accessories. Pearls and hankies? We couldn’t love them more! I, personally, loved the pink wildflower hair wreaths from Stephanie + Erik’s wedding. Sierra couldn’t choose just one — both the sparkly flats and the adorable flower girl headbands from Melissa + Matthew’s wedding stole her heart.

FAVORITE MENSWEAR: I love seeing how our dapper Southern gents dress on the big day! Melissa + Matthew’s family won me over. The plaid beret, snazzy blazer and fun pennants? Who couldn’t love that? Sierra had to give a big kudos to the gentlemen in Marilisa + Taylor’s wedding. They rocked the blue gingham and yellow boutonnieres, effectively stealing our hearts. But it was the velvet-wrapped boutonnieres from Stephanie + Erik’s wedding that took the cake for Whitney.

FAVORITE DETAIL: I’m sure it was Sierra’s design-savvy that made Caroline + Tyler’s letterpressed invitations shoot to the top of her highlights. For Whitney, it was the custom embroidery on the ties at Melissa + Matthew’s wedding that made the cut. Embroidery stole my heart, too, with Jamie + Dan’s his and hers chair covers.

FAVORITE BOUQUET: Caroline’s lush bouquet with unexpected snow on the mountain was a favorite of Sierra’s. Whitney was a big fan of Suzanne’s classic white bouquet. I loved the simple green and white arrangements carried by Ashley’s bridesmaids.

FAVORITE SWEET: The Southern Weddings gals have a collectively large sweet tooth, so pulling the highlights under this category always comes with laughs (and cravings). For Whitney, the hummingbird cake and sweet favors from Jamie + Dan’s wedding won out. Sierra couldn’t help but love Caroline + Tyler’s swiss-dotted and peony-topped cake. Always the pie-fan, I was smitten with the welcoming pie bar at Melissa + Matthew’s wedding.

FAVORITE PHOTO: Southern and sweet, Marilisa + Taylor’s photo by the hay bale was one of Sierra’s favorites. For Whitney, love won out in two weddings. The sweet kisses shared by Suzanne + Keith and Stephanie + Erik made her heart melt. I couldn’t help but fall for the joy and happiness that came with Jamie + Dan’s sparkler send-off.

September was good to us, y’all. We finalized V4, featured beautiful weddings on the blog, and did many a happy dance. Emily, Marissa and Sierra are here to highlight some of our favorite details from our Real Weddings, but we want to know what you think, too!

FAVORITE WEDDING DRESS: We’re always swooning over dresses in the office, and this month was no different! Marissa fell for Carolyn’s Priscilla of Boston gown. Sierra chose Beverly’s lacy dress with a gorgeous deep V in the back, while Non’s one-shouldered Greek dress had Emily in love.

FAVORITE BRIDESMAID DRESS: Emily was crazy for Whitney’s sleek gray bridesmaids’ dresses, while Sierra found eye candy in Carolyn’s bright and colorful ‘maids and Marissa found hers in Lauren’s cowboy-booted ‘maids.

FAVORITE FEMALE ACCESSORY: Is it any surprise that Marissa fell for Lauren’s monogrammed robe? We admit, we all love it! In addition, Emily thought Non’s bow shoes were adorable and Sierra found another Southern highlight in Kristen’s cowboy boots.

FAVORITE MENSWEAR: Y’all know how much we love dapper-looking men! This month, Curtis’s seersucker suit drew Marissa’s eye. Sierra thought Rusty looked handsome in his bow tie and navy blazer and Emily couldn’t help but love Caleb’s boyish good looks in a bow tie and suspenders.

FAVORITE DETAIL: Marissa highlighted a Southern classic: hay bales, this time used as a comfy-looking lounge area in Lauren + Tommy’s wedding. Emily couldn’t help but be taken with Kristen + Chad’s quilt-lined pickup truck and Sierra loved how Victoria + Rusty dressed their pups in a bow tie and wreath.

FAVORITE BOUQUET: Marissa was in love with the fluffy pink and white bouquets from Whitney’s wedding. Sierra was a fan of Lauren’s soft-colored bouquet with hints of green and Emily was immediately crazy for Carolyn’s colorful blooms.

FAVORITE SWEET: The sweets we feature on the blog always have us licking our lips! Just looking at Victoria + Michael’s wedding pie made Sierra hungry. Emily was ready to dig into Lisa + Blake’s strawberry cake and Marissa couldn’t help but fall in love with Carolyn + Dustin’s cake and froyo combo.

FAVORITE PHOTO: Marissa thought the photo of Beverly + Curtis’s ceremony was gorgeous. Sierra decided to highlight the fun on the dance floor of Carolyn + Dustin’s wedding, while Emily loved the joyful bouquet toss from Non + KG’s wedding.

It’s been awhile since I’ve seen a genuine pink wedding on the blog, but Mimi + Harry’s Virginia celebration at the Brookside Gardens hits the spot for me.  It’s light, fresh + feminine without being too girly.  (Anyone else suddenly reminded how much they’re going to miss these warm months?)  Theresa Choi + Julie Lim photographed the happy couple on their big day.  The bride opted for an elegant J. Crew ball gown, and went super-sleek with her veil from Unveiled Bridal Designs.  Mimi + Harry toasted their newlywed status at the China Garden Restaurant, where they enjoyed a dessert bar from the New York-based Momofuku.  My Simple Details not only planned the event, but also designed the flowers.  Lovely!  P.S.  How much do you love short hair summer brides?  I sure do!

How did the two of you meet?  Tell us your story. We met in college at the University of Maryland through mutual friends.  We seemed like opposites in most ways, but something sparked and we’ve had an amazing journey discovering both our differences and similarities ever since!  We’ve been together for about 8 years now.
Describe the proposal.
Harry proposed to me, surprising me by taking me up to the Santa Barbara courthouse clock tower where there is a beautiful view of the city, the ocean, and the mountains all at once.  At that time, we were preparing to move back to our hometown in suburban Maryland from Santa Barbara, CA, where we had been living for the past 3-4 years while I was in graduate school.  The move symbolized a new chapter of our life, and Harry thought it a fitting moment.
Three adjectives that describe the day are:
meaningful, intimate, personal
Our favorite detail of the wedding was:
While there were many very cute details, one detail definitely stood out above the rest for us: the cake toppers, custom created based on our Nintendo Wii “Mii’s”, or avatars.  Paul Pape Designs created these toppers based on images of our avatars and our actual wedding outfits, copying them to the tiniest detail. They looked just like us!
Tell us about finding your wedding dress:
I knew I had to have a wedding dress with pockets (to hold his ring and my vows, of course)! I discovered that J. Crew had many dresses with pockets so I looked through their designs.  The Lucinda ball gown was perfect: super simple, flattering, and just a little princess-y. Once I picked the dress I wanted, I went looking for it used! As a budget bride, I couldn’t imagine paying full-price for a dress I was wearing for only a day.  Luckily, I found a once-worn Lucinda on OnceWed.com for a great price!
Describe your wedding flowers:
We provided a mini calla lily for each of our guests at the ceremony, in lieu of the boutonnieres we traditionally provide to all family members.  We wanted our parents to stand out in particular, though, so we had simple boutonnieres from a single calla lily for each of them.  We decided to forgo the traditional bouquet and flower arrangements, opting instead to getting married outdoors in a garden full of flowers and creating DIY centerpieces with origami flowers.  I, along with my sisters and friends, folded over 1500 origami cherry blossoms (and then attached them to branches, one by one) for our 50 centerpieces!
Describe your wedding cake:
We decided to forgo the traditional giant wedding cake, and instead went with a giant dessert buffet stocked with my favorite desserts.  The highlights of the dessert buffet were chocolate chip cornflake marshmallow cookies and a small banana cake. The small uncovered cake was perfect for the cake toppers and matched our nontraditional style.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding?
The biggest challenge was finding a balance between our individuality and our families’ desires and expectations.  We wanted to express ourselves as a couple – our life philosophies, our idea of marriage and partnership – but we also wanted to include our families and emphasize the importance of community.  This took a lot of (sometimes painful and frustrating) give and take throughout the planning process.  But we were especially able to bring all these concerns together in our wedding ceremony, which we carefully created along with our officiant over the course of weeks.  The result was an incredibly special and meaningful ceremony that was an expression of us as a couple and that also brought our communities together.
What’s next for you as a couple?  What are you looking forward to in the future?
We are looking forward to normalcy! After almost a year of planning this event, we just want life’s daily rhythms to return to what we vaguely remember as normal! I am especially looking forward to having time to return to culinary and musical pursuits.  Long term, we are looking forward to discovering together the depths of the commitment that we have made.

Are these big pink flowers true or is it made of paper?? I like the pink theme wedding. I think you can take more pink elements in the wedding. such as pink bridesmaids or pink clothes of guests.
