Southern Weddings: An Introduction

by in Main on

Hello, hello, belles and beaus! We like to do one of these Southern Weddings grand tours about every six months, because while we loooooove those of y’all that have been around for years (literally!), we like to make the newest members feel welcome, too! Out last tour was in June 2012, so let’s get started!

First, of course, you’ve got the main blog. We post here two-four times a day on a variety of topics related to weddings and the South. There will always be gorgeous real weddings, but we also post fun features and series. Some of our favorites right now are our Southern Brides of the Month and Marissa’s Southern Delicacy posts.

New readers, be sure to check out our real weddings gallery to catch up on years’ worth of inspiring Southern weddings! You can search by color and state, too.

Don’t miss the editorial galleries, either! We’ve posted in-depth looks at almost all of our editorial features from V3 and V4. While you’re at it, why not flip through online editions of V1, V2, V3, and V4?

Engaged ladies, your new best friend is our Blue Ribbon Vendor Directory. We’ve stocked it with more than 160 of our favorite vendors across the South, and we’re adding more talents every day! Vendors do pay to be listed (full disclosure!), but they also must apply to be admitted, and we review each application as a team, and follow up with their references. Only the best for our belles! The Blue Ribbon Vendors you see listed as “Editors’ Picks” have been featured in one of our print editions, so they get an extra-special stamp of SW approval.

If you’re well on your way with wedding planning, it’s time to start thinking about the honeymoon! The Honey List is our collection of SW-approved vacation spots.

Everyone loves to learn from real brides, which is why we’ve collected a few of our favorites on our Southern Bride Bloggers page! These gals all blog regularly about their upcoming (Southern) weddings, and are a great resource!

Of course, you must be sure to get acquainted with all of the Southern Weddings ladies, if we haven’t yet been formally introduced! You can see all of our profiles here, including Lara (Editor in Chief), Emily (Creative Director), Marissa (Director of Advertising and Editor), Nicole (Art Director), and Kristin (Blue Ribbon Vendor Director). We also post about goings-on in our office of ladies in a special “In the Office” category. By the way, if you’re new here, you will DEFINITELY want to check out this post — it explains a lot about how a small business like ours works!

Now that we’re better acquainted, we know you’re going to want to spend some quality time with us, am I right? Lucky for you, we’re quite social! We have one main Twitter account (@iloveswmag) and one main Instagram account (@iloveswmag) where we share recent blog posts, happenings in the office, behind-the-scenes deets on shoot days, industry discounts and sample sales, news about Southern friends and events, and much more.

All the SW ladies have their own accounts, too. So if you like business + branding, follow Lara (Twitter + Instagram), or if paper pretties and mini food are more your thing, follow Emily (Twitter + Instagram)! Nicole (Twitter + Instagram) is great about finding neat design finds and everything orange, Kristin (Twitter + Instagram) shares the cutest glimpses of newlywed life, and Marissa (Twitter + Instagram) is our source for all things preppy, pretty, and baseball-related.

Next, there’s Facebook. You may all feel free to like us here :) We share much of the same insider news and details that we do on Twitter, but it’s fun to see the conversations develop on FB. Plus, we sometimes ask fun polls on our Facebook page, and love hearing what y’all have to say!

Up next is Pinterest! You can follow Southern Weddings here. We love to pin photos from blog and print features, and it’s great for y’all, too, because we sort photos into different, fun categories. So if you’re looking for sweet tea + other drinks, biscuits + other delectables, or bow ties + boutonnieres, we’ve got you covered. We also have boards for ceremonies, fashion + style, bouquets, sweets, Southern traditions… you name it. And of course, each color has its own board, too. Get pinning!

And while you’re there, feel free to follow each individual account, too: Lara, Emily, Marissa, and Nicole.

Of course, we also love Lover.ly, a curated visual search engine just for weddings! You can find all of the SW bundles right here, and we’re adding more every day!

You can always buy all of our back issues in our shop, right here. We’ve also started to offer a few Southern prints in the shop, with plans for many more!

The General Store is chockfull of Southern goods made by others, including wedding decor, favors & gifts, and craft supplies! We’re adding more every day, so pop by and take a look!

Last but certainly not least, there’s one thing that arches over everything we do: the Sweet Tea Society. It’s our manifesto on weddings, marriage, love, and the South, and we would love for you to check it out here if you haven’t already done so! (And even if you have, it’s always good to have a refresher!) If you believe in what we believe in, you’re already a member of the Society, so feel free to grab your badge here!

And there you have it! Southern Weddings in a nutshell (make that a pecan husk, natch). Questions, just ask! And if you’re new around these parts, introduce yourself below! We LOVE to meet our readers!

Hello, friends! We’re actually planning to post a little updated guide to the world of Southern Weddings this week because we know there are lots of y’all joining us for the first time (or, at least, joining us for the first time as officially engaged ladies – ha!). We’ll focus on all the nooks and crannies of SW then, but today, we just wanted to highlight one particular nook — our Southern Bride Bloggers!

We love promoting these ladies because they give you something that we generally can’t. Yep, we’ve got the resources to share stunning real weddings and offer expert advice (side note — etiquette posts are making a comeback in 2013 – WHOO!), but, aside from our Southern Bride of the Month series and the occasional SW gal getting married, we don’t share the step-by-step of an average bride’s walk to the altar. But these ladies do, in great Southern style, and we’d love for you to check them out! You can see the full list right here.

Of course, we’re always looking for new belles to add to the list! We look for brides currently planning a wedding in the Southeastern United States that blog at least once a week. If you fit the bill and are interested, just leave a comment here with your blog address and a little about yourself and we’ll take a look at your site. Make sure you include a valid email in your comment so we can send over your badge!

Happy planning to all!

I’m engaged to the most wonderul man in the world (sorry ladies!). I’m blogging each step of our wedding planning to keep not just family and friends in the loop, but anyone else who is planning too! We’re getting married in SC in August (7 months, whew!) and couldn’t be more excited about it. We live in Charlotte right now and will be making our way a little farther South after our nuptials. My blog has included everything so far from venue searching to bridesmaid gifts to suits for the boys and of course, my gorgeous gown. Take a peek and let me know what you think!

I recently got engaged and it was completely unexpected. I am not getting married until June 28, 2014, but I am doing a lot of planning now because living in Raleigh, things get booked up quickly!

I’m a born and raised Carolina girl who is in the process of juggling life planning a wedding in May of 2013 to my high school sweet heart while also navigating my last year of college and the job search! I’ve had my lifestyle blog for a few years and have recently added posts about the progress of my wedding planning and am planning on consciously adding more in the new year!

I’m an avid Southern Wedding blog reader and fairly obsessed with all things wedding :) To be a bride to the love of my life is probably one of the most exciting things EVER! Matt and I have been together almost 6 years and we’re getting married this July in Virginia. I can’t WAIT to be his wife :) I started randomly blogging wedding updates on our wedding website last year. My 2013 resolution is to blog EVERY day leading up to the wedding. I’ve always loved READING wedding blogs and I think it’s time I try a hand at being consistent with it! Emily’s post about writing down everything that happened on her wedding day really struck me – SO much time is going into this and it’s going to go by SO fast. Blogging is a great way to not only help other brides & wedding obsessed ladies, but to remind me in the months to come of all that’s happening! I’d love to add the “southern bride blogger” badge to my “little details” wedding blog :)

I’d love to join this! I read every post, but I don’t live in the South. I’m from the Chicago area, but my tastes all revolve around southern charm and taste! Maybe if you open your parameters a bit I could join in and grab a badge. :)

Hi! I have barely scratched the service with my wedding planning and while I used to blog all the time I took a year long break but now that I am engaged I am getting back into it! I would love for you to look at my website and if you are interested feel insured that it will get a little more exciting around those parts pretty soon! :)

Is there a group for southern newlyweds? I recently got married and have been sharing many of my wedding DIY as well as photos from my wedding. Just let me know!

There’s something innately dramatic about the classic bridal white and tuxedo black pairing, and though most weddings have a hint of that palette in the stars of the show, I love when something so simple and sophisticated gets extended across an entire celebration. That’s why we’re so happy to have the ladies of Atrendy Wedding here today with some gorgeous B&W Southern details for us to swoon over!

To begin with, isn’t that polka dot pocket square dapper?

The lovely bride’s gown is “Mika” by Modern Trousseau, and all of her accessories, except the necklace, are from Erin Cole, while that gorgeous statement piece is by Desla Couture. Everything was picked out and sourced by Hitched!

Wouldn’t this idea be so fun in a reception powder room? I think a huge part of wedding details is creating little surprises and delights for your guests throughout the day, and this lipstick and pearls station would definitely qualify!

Not to be outdone, the gents have their own station, complete with bow ties for those who might be lacking and a few reminders on gentlemanly behavior.

I love this idea so much. Weddings are all about celebrating family, and while I always enjoy a good photo display at any celebration I attend, I often wish I knew a little bit more about the people in the photos! Little signs (try place card holders for the stands) would clear things up in style.

A few more sweet details to finish us off, beautiful captured by Nessa K Photography:

Check back later this week, because we’ll be sharing a Texas real wedding that seems inspired by this very shoot!

Atrendy Wedding is a fabulous member of our Blue Ribbon Vendor Directory!
