It has been 532 days since my best friend got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife, and in just two short days, I finally will be! I am officially out of the SW office starting today to focus on wrapping up last minute details and welcoming my beloved family and friends to North Carolina, but I couldn’t possibly leave without one last Lisa’s Southern Wedding post. It has been an honor to share snippets of my wedding planning journey with y’all over the last year and a half!

First, y’all found out about our engagement–many just a few minutes after it happened, if you were tuned into the V6 launch party live stream! I’m eternally grateful to Callie Davis for capturing this magical moment in mine and Dave’s lives.

I love our love story–it has taught us so much about faith and trusting in God’s timing. I shared it with y’all (complete with some fun throwback pictures) here!

The first big decision we had to make was where on earth to tie the knot–and from New York to Texas, we had our fair share of options! We finally settled on our new town of Raleigh so that we could say our vows in our beloved church. You can read about our venue search here.

Choosing a photographer and a videographer we love were at the tippy top of our priority list. We are overjoyed that the talented Ryan Ray is making the trip to be our photographer, and that the incredible team at Inkspot Crow will be by his side to capture the day on video! I have utmost confidence in both Ryan and Inkspot Crow, and am already giddy with excitement to see our wedding through their lenses!

Ryan Ray

Speaking of photography, taking our engagement pictures with Ryan was one of the highlights of the last year and a half! You can see some of our inspiration here, and a few peeks at the results scattered throughout my Instagram.

KT Merry, Jose Villa

Flowers are one of my favorite wedding details, and I’ve loved working with Kelly of Philosophy Flowers to dream up beautiful and meaningful bouquets. I can’t WAIT to see how they turn out!

Eric Kelley via Love In Bloom, Jose Villa via Something Blue

I’ve been keeping the details of my wedding day look very secret (only my mom and sisters have seen my dress!), but had fun sharing about what the gents and my bridesmaids will be wearing. I also shared some of my jewelry and beauty inspiration!

Brett Heidebrecht via Style Me Pretty, Jessica Lorren via Once Wed

Sending our save the dates was so exciting! Confession: I have one of them framed on my gallery wall :)

Planning our ceremony has been the most rewarding and exciting part of wedding planning, and I get butterflies in my stomach just thinking about it happening in real life this Saturday. I loved sharing our plans here.

Nancy Ray

Finally, I let y’all in on a few of my favorite details–the things I’ve always dreamed of including in my wedding. I feel so lucky that all four things I mentioned in this post worked out and will indeed be present!

Amanda Dumouchelle via Style Me Pretty

Before signing off, I just want to say thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for all of your kind words and comments as I’ve shared our wedding planning journey. I’m truly humbled by your support and am so honored to have shared this time with such a wonderful community!

I also want to give big hugs and thanks to the SW gals–from the way they helped Dave orchestrate his proposal, to the sweetest surprise bridal shower, to the countless words of wisdom and encouragement they’ve shared with me over the last year and a half, I am truly, truly grateful to have them as coworkers and friends!

With that, sweet friends, I’m signing off! You’ll see a few posts from me over the next two weeks, but rest assured, they’ve all been written ahead of time :) I can’t wait to catch up with y’all when I’m back in the office, complete with a new husband and a new monogram. Xoxo!

Y’all, it is crunch time! My wedding is just a month and a half away, and I feel like I am making decisions left and right. With many things in my life, I’m the type of person who says “I’ll know it when I see it,” and I’m happy (and a little bit relieved) that that was the case for my shoes and my veil. My jewelry, on the other hand, has been another story entirely. I have been waiting for the “perfect wedding day jewelry” to show up in my path for over a year now, and I’m running out of time, so I need to make some decisions!

Some of my jewelry inspiration! Clockwise from top left: Julie + Will by Pasha Belman, Raya Photography via 100 Layer Cake, Lauren + Casey by Whitebox Photo, Lynze + Josh by Trent Bailey, Emily + John by Abby Grace, Rosa + Vincent by Gracie Blue

I think what makes this decision a little overwhelming to me is that jewelry is one of the most special things a girl can pass down. I really love the idea of being able to show my future daughters what I wore on my wedding day, which means I need to choose pieces that will last for a long time and still look beautiful. There isn’t much heirloom jewelry in my family and I would love to start the tradition!

While I don’t have a super clear picture in my head of what I’m looking for, I know I want to keep my jewelry simple and elegant, but special. So far, I’ve sifted through the options at BHLDN, J. Crew, BaubleBar, Nordstrom, Kendra Scott, Kate Spade, Tiffany & Co., Stella & Dot, and Loren Hope (phew!), and I’ve saved a few pieces that have caught my eye. I love classic Southern pearls, but I also think a hint of sparkle would be a pretty addition to my wedding day look, and I’m a little obsessed with that pale blue bracelet (something blue, anyone?).

Do you have a favorite combination from these options? And do you have any other favorite jewelry sources I should check out? I’m all ears!

I love that blue bracelet too! That would be perfect as your something blue. With the earrings, I don’t think you can go wrong with any of your options. But the good thing about classic pearl earrings is that you can wear them for years to come and maybe it will be a sweet reminder of your wedding day whenever you wear them :)

  2. avatar Jane Tippins reply

I would like to suggest The Pearl Girls in Athens, GA. The website is thepearlgirls.com. I’m sure they would love to talk with you about a special bridal design!

  3. avatar Mattye reply

Love the idea of having an heirloom piece to pass down! I kept my jewelry simple for the wedding day, but one thing I’m so glad I did was select a ceremony earring and a reception earring. I didn’t want my earrings dangling all around as I said my vows, but I was fine with it for dancing. The ceremony look was simple and classic while the reception earring was more fun and glamorous. I think it would be beautiful if you wore the sweet pearl studs for the ceremony and put on the sparkly, dangly ones for the reception. Oh, and both of my earrings were Stella & Dot-love S&D! Can’t wait to see what you select!

  4. avatar Emily reply

I say go for the “something blue” bracelet! It’s subtle enough that I don’t think it will make a huge statement, but it’s sweet and fun. For earrings, I think Mattye’s idea is quite fabulous, but I don’t think you could go wrong with either!

  5. avatar Lisa Hays reply

I’m pretty sure I’m older than your mother – but younger than your grandmother (LOL) and I don’t know your dress of course. A young woman I work with wore a gorgeous, simple necklace that I think is referred to as back jewelry. It was stunning from the front or the back. I am a “pearls” girl but love those sparkly drop earrings! You will be gorgeous;maybe go with a “gut reaction”.

    Best Wishes!

Check out Gemma Jewels (www.gemmajewelsshop.com). She is an MTH alum and has worked with a few of my brides on jewels for their wedding day! And since she’s local to Chapel Hill you can see the pieces in person too. Can’t wait to see what you decide on!!

I don’t know how on earth my wedding is almost two months away, but here we are! I am definitely feeling the pressure of everything that still needs to get done, but it’s all coming together, and now that RSVP cards are showing up in my mailbox, it’s feeling more real than ever! Fellow spring brides, know that I am thinking of y’all–we’re almost there! :)

Next up on my wedding to-do list is my hair and makeup trial, so I thought this would be a good time to share some of my inspiration. I am SO excited that Samantha of Lula Hair and Makeup (she worked her magic at this shoot last year!) will be prettifying my favorite ladies and me on my wedding day. She is so talented at achieving the really beautiful, natural look I love, and she’s also as sweet as can be–exactly the type of person a girl wants around on her wedding morning!

When thinking about how I want to look on my wedding day, one of the most important things to me is that I feel like myself. That said, I have two “signature” beauty looks: my hair is really long, and I never shy away from bright lipstick. Long hair means that I can do pretty much anything with it, so I’ve been collecting inspiration that runs the gamut from long, romantic curls to chic updos. Let’s take a look!

There are the “all down” looks–I love the princess-y feel of these styles!

Clockwise from top left: Keely + Hill by Lauren Friday, Tec Petaja, Vogue, Elizabeth Messina via Wedding Chicks

There’s the classic half up/half down, AKA the perfect happy medium.

Clockwise from top left: Meredith + Beau by Lauren Kinsey, Blair + Brian by Justin DeMutiis, Jemma Keech via Once Wed, Sally Ward + Patrick by Geneoh

And, the updos! I rarely wear my hair up, which makes it feel extra special when I do (like at the V7 launch party). I love these elegant, piece-y (but not messy) styles.

Clockwise from top left: Kristen + Patrick by Rachel May, Savannah + Robbie by Andi Mans, unknown, Ben Q Photography

I always feel my most dressed up with color on my lips, and while I wouldn’t want to go too bold for my wedding, I do have my eye on a few bright-ish shades as possibilities (this one in Strawberry Sorbet and this one in Primerose look gorgeous!). Here is some pretty lipstick inspiration from past SW editorials!

Clockwise from top left: Carolina on My Mind by Joey Seawell, A Southern Gentleman by Stephen DeVries, Fun and Fancy Free by Nancy Ray, Berry Bliss by Katie Stoops

How did you/will you wear your hair on your wedding day? Are you incorporating any of your go-to beauty looks? I’d love to hear!

Samantha is the perfect choice for someone to do your hair and makeup!! She did ours for my sister’s Chapel Hill wedding, and cannot say enough good things about her (from her sweet, sunny personality to her incredible hair & makeup styling skills)! Y’all are in good hands. And I love the pop of color in the lip, for sure!

My entire engagement I planned on wearing my hair in an updo (something I never do). But while getting ready on the morning of the wedding I was worried that I might not look like or feel like myself with my hair up but I was also worried that if I wore my hair down that it wouldn’t be special enough. However, my bridesmaids reminded me that Kate Middleton wore her hair down on her wedding day and that convinced me! :) I decided to go with a half up/half down and I’m so glad I did. I felt like myself and when you add a veil, any hairstyle turns special. I know you’ll look lovely whatever you choose!

    • avatar Lisa reply

That is so sweet!! Love that your bridesmaids were so supportive and encouraging of your last-minute switch…and Kate Middleton is pretty great encouragement, too! :)

  3. avatar Morgan reply

You are going to look stunning, Lisa!

  4. avatar Emily reply

Well hmm, those all down styles do look lovely, and you certainly looked beautiful rocking something similar at the peach shoot!! I wore my hair up, as you know, and am very glad that I did – I think I would have been fussing too much with it otherwise, and my sleeves needed space to shine :) The funniest part of my wedding day hair and makeup session was that Tia unilaterally decided I and all of my bridesmaids needed eyebrow plucking. Luckily she is a master, and my brows have never looked better!! If only she lived in NC…

    • avatar Lisa reply

Your hair and makeup was perfect on you, especially with your gorgeous dress! I have not thought about my eyebrows at all…maybe Sam will give me some insight as to if they need any wedding day prep! :P

You can’t go wrong with loose curls and wavy hair. I adore the last braid, it is both low-key and elegant at the same time.
