Category: Inspirations

We feature inspiration shoots here and there on the blog, and boy do we love them when they’re done right! They’re a great way to share creative, beautiful, and fun ideas. But you know what we really love? When we see y’all take those ideas and use them as a springboard for real-life events with those you love most. That’s exactly what our reader Bri did when she created a special celebration to ask her best friends to stand beside her as bridesmaids. In her email, she reminded me of how wonderful it is that an engagement gives us these opportunities to “celebrate along the way,” and I couldn’t agree more!

This is the point of inspiration, friends. Our fondest hope is that you’ll take the inspiration shoots we share and not necessarily create magical, perfect images from your own events, but create events that feel magical and perfect to the people in attendance. I’m guessing this is a night Bri and her friends will remember for a long, long time, and I hope it inspires y’all to go make your own magic!

I used heirlooms for this dinner, including my mom’s china, my grandmother’s glass, and my great-grandmother’s silver. Each gal received a handwritten keepsake when I asked her to stand next to me on the most important day of my life. I also asked them my question on the family property where I’ll be married. It was seven Southern women coming together on a hot summer night with a sunset for the books, and it was an evening full of magic I will never forget.

This is such a sweet idea! All of my girls love in different states, but I wish we could get together like this! Simply beautiful!

When Marilisa from Martel Event described this shoot to me, she noted that the peach and neutral tones used made it fitting for spring, summer, or fall — and I couldn’t agree more! From the picturesque farmhouse setting at Half-Mile Farm to the natural texture in the bride’s skirt, I was captivated by each thoughtful detail, and hope it provides lots of fall wedding inspiration for y’all this morning, too!

Big hugs to Davy Whitener for these photos!

From Martel Event:
With a stunning setting like Old Edwards Inn & Spa’s Half-Mile Farm, it’s not hard to dream up a lakeside elopement to celebrate the commitment and unity of two people. The color palette and overall feel of the aesthetic was inspired by the natural muslin fibers of Carol Hannah’s Kensington skirt. The casual linen texture made elegant with the fullness of the skirt embodied the carefree and timeless spirit of the couple we imagined would pursue this type of gathering.

Martha McIntosh used a mostly neutral color palette for the florals, allowing the beauty of the couple and the setting to enhance the floral story. By including subtle pops of peach in both the centerpiece and bouquet, the flowers were given a fresh and playful feel – similar to how relaxed the couple feels with one another. The neutral tones of the guest table details as well as the paper goods created by Lydia Whitener ensure that the details are not bound to a particular season, but could easily be assimilated into a spring, summer, or fall affair.

For a small fete consisting of only family or close friends, we envisioned the couple adorning their guest table with collected heirlooms of china and mix-and-match flatware. The wedding cake, designed with a delicate stitching pattern and adorned simply with silk ribbon and single peony sits atop a hand-made cake stand cut from a single piece of wood- another heirloom for the couple to remember their wedding day by for years to come.

Gorgeous! Such attention to detail. It screams “southern” in the most elegant way possible. I love the bridge and groom tags in the forks as funny as that sounds. Jealous!

Seersucker, Spanish moss, a gracious plantation home, and a beautiful (real life!) couple in love: sounds like just the ticket for Southern Weddings! Allison Pedigo and Elizabeth Marie Weddings & Events put together these details, inspired by the Lowcountry of South Carolina and the hospitality we all hope to offer on our wedding days and in newlywed life. Don’t miss the beautiful wreaths on the venue doors and at the reception table, and the joyful petal toss at the end!

From the team:

Incorporating a taste of South Carolina was important to us, not only for the sake of matching our backdrop, but in helping our viewers take a front seat and truly feel the essence of the Palmetto State — a place where porch sitting takes precedence over air conditioning and southern hospitality is just a way of life. My trips to South Carolina as a kid growing up consisted of beach visits, lagoons, humidity, popsicles and our annual Low Country Boil. Since sending guests home with Frogmore Stew wasn’t an option, we opted for a homemade starter for “guests” to enjoy at their leisure.

We began the day by photographing our bride as she went about her quiet, thoughtful morning, taking a moment to reflect on the commitment she would soon make to her groom. We created two separate spaces — one which was a sweetheart table for our couple after they wed in front of the estate, the other for their guests to enjoy the reception under the shade of the large, live oak that greets you upon stepping foot on the property. We ended the day with a whimsical, petal send-off as they exited down the long pathway as bride and groom.

Our bride and groom had recently wed before we planned our collaboration, so it was truly a joy to capture raw emotion and excited banter between the two throughout. Brandy and Drew have a love like none other, and I love how their adoration and newlywed giddiness show through in this collection of images.
