Category: Inspirations

Born a northerner and the daughter of a Coast Guard captain, I usually think of seaside weddings and their nautical flag palettes as the province of New England nuptials. But that’s not quite right, because the South has miles and miles of coastline, and a boating culture all its own! Rachel Red Photography and Lindsay Bishop Events chose to embrace the bold colors and simple style of Charleston Harbor for this elopement inspiration shoot, and I must say, it’s a breath of fresh (salty sea) air.

A few words from Lindsay on the inspiration behind this shoot:

When they began planning their wedding, the two of them knew that they didn’t want a grand gathering; it just didn’t feel like them. Madeline and Chandler wanted to celebrate the beginning of their marriage surrounded with only the people that meant the most to them, in the place that they felt most at home. Eloping on a sailboat at sunset just felt right! The Schooner Pride was the perfect vessel for their nuptials. Modeled after an 18th century coastal trading schooner, the 84’ tall ship embodied all of the romantic, historic elements that Madeline loves so much about Charleston. They used signal flags to frame their quaint ceremony space, spelling “Forever” in the colorful emblems. With a color palette inspired by the signal flags they love so much, their distinctly nautical style was reflected in every detail. A beautifully textured blue and white striped linen adorned the main dining table, and weathered wood boards were paired with shining gold flatware to evoke feelings of an old ship. Soft Turkish towels made lovely accents for a number of food displays.

After the ceremony, their intimate group enjoyed an enormous farmer’s snack board filled with charcuterie and cheese, accompanied by savory shrimp salad boats and succulent pickled shrimp, paying homage to the low country’s abundance with tons of local ingredients. No Charleston party is complete without oysters, and Madeline and Chandler didn’t disappoint with a giant clam shell full of raw oysters paired with lemon slices and adorable mini bottles of Tabasco sauce!

Pineapple bowling on the beach, anyone?! While this oh-so-Southern twist on a cocktail hour staple has to be my favorite element from today’s wedding inspiration, there is so much more to love! The team at JLeslie Designs blended coastal and traditional Southern style together effortlessly, from the monogrammed details to the framed family photos to the oyster-topped cake. Take a peek below, and let me know your favorite part in the comments!

Big hugs to Marianne Lucille for these photos!

From Jenna Coleman of JLeslie Designs:

In planning for a summer styled shoot, we noticed that few seem to take advantage of the beach landscape that is so close to us here in Savannah. It makes for the perfect wedding backdrop, though it is often only chosen for the ceremony. We decided to plan our shoot for the dunes area just before the flat of the beach, but with the lighthouse in the background. We wanted to incorporate Savannah Vintage Rental’s unique pieces to really create a sense of a room in such a vast setting. We went with the Hayes gown by Sarah Seven because of its feminine feel and movement, perfect for the breeze of the beach. We incorporated oyster elements in the invitation design, and from there, we decided to do oyster place cards and use oysters as a cake topper to tie in the concept. I wanted any of my wood signage to have similar tones as driftwood to create a natural look. This shoot was a joy to design, a dream to work with these vendors, and a blast to model in!

The coconut pineapple bowling is too cute!! Your wedding’s location lends itself to instant personalization opportunities. Thinking of ways to inject that personality into features you already know you’ll have – like lawn games – is a great way to engage guests.

This shoot was so fun! I had an amazing time getting everything together and working with all the vendors involved. This shoot definitely has lots of that laid back southern charm personality to it. Thank you again for featuring the shoot on your beautiful blog!

You know the saying, “If it stops moving, monogram it”? It’s safe to say that we Southern girls like to monogram everything, and one of the biggest days of our lives is certainly no exception! Historically, monograms were used to show ownership or status, but now, they’ve become so much more–they’ve become a sentimental way to personalize your wedding details so they can be passed down or displayed in your newlywed home. Whether walking down the aisle is the last time you’ll wear your maiden initials, or your first meal as husband and wife is on china with your initials cozied up next to your new husband’s, a monogram makes everything that much more special!

Today, we’ve rounded up ten of our best ideas for incorporating your monogram into your wedding details. Enjoy!
