Get the Look :: Emily + Monty

by in Main on

As promised, we are back with a few insider tips, tricks, and sources for Emily + Monty’s fabulous Charleston wedding! If you missed their blog debut, check here and here for the feature. Big thanks to Calder of Calder Clark Designs, Emily + Monty’s wedding designer, for her help with this post!

A. Calder recommends scouting Target (once a week, and in person, not online) for fun and inexpensive melamine trays. Hand them over to your caterer for a fun splash during cocktail hour or for a late-night snack. Calder also loves CB2, which is where we found these gray platters.

B. Pom poms are easily bought at discount craft supply stores. Calder recommends Craft Supplies For Less; we found these at Factory Direct Craft. Be prepared for someone to be out at the end of the night with a ShopVac, however!

C. Tuck those poms into a plastic folding box from Paper Mart, the best discount bulk packaging supply store we know.

D. Emily’s maids wore dresses from J. Crew. Though it doesn’t look like her exact style is available anymore, the smoky blue of the current Siren dress would be a nice substitute. Calder also recommends LulaKate, who can custom make anything your heart might desire and competes with the mass retailers on price.

E. Top those plastic pom boxes with a custom set of labels. These are from My Own Labels, but if you’re crafty, you could just as easily whip something together using Paper Source stickers or Adobe Illustrator.

F. Emily’s gold locket (LOVE!) was a family heirloom, but, as Calder says, “there’s nothing to stop you from finding your own and passing it down from generation to generation.” After all, traditions have to start somewhere! Calder recommends Southern Classic Jewelry, and we loved this monogrammed piece from Ruby Lane.

G. The exact pillows Calder and Emily chose were these from Koko Company. Try searching at Target, World Market, and Ikea throughout the year!

H. Fuzzy blankets tucked into a woven basket? We can’t think of anything more cozy in the cooler months. These three are extremely reasonably priced at Ikea (here, here, and here).

I. The pattern used on trays and as a background throughout Emily + Monty’s celebration was actually to-the-trade wallpaper, but we think this fabric would stand in nicely! We found the best price on the Fioretto at Mary Jo’s.

Not pictured here are the vintage keys and hankies, which Calder and company collected over several weeks on eBay.

Questions? Anything else you’d love to see a source for? We’ll try our best to help out!

Today we want to share a peek at our Rockabilly Romance shoot from V3. This fab slice of inspiration was the brainchild of Kristy Rice of Momental Designs and Caroline Vasquez of Paloma’s Nest. Fun fact? They actually hatched the initial idea when they met at our V2 release party in Atlanta in the fall of 2009!

Caroline and Kristy imagined a shoot celebrating young love and handcrafted details in the eclectic city of Austin. There’s so much more goodness in the gallery — take a look!

The talented vendors involved:

Design and Styling: Caroline Vasquez and Kristy Rice // Photography: Jesse Ryan // Location and Catering: The Salt Lick // Floral Design: Pollen Floral Art // Dresses: Jessica Audey // Ring Bearer Bowl and Bouquet Charm: Paloma’s Nest // Stationery Suite: Momental Designs // Design Assistants and Planners: Barbara Hearne and April Orr // Hair and Makeup: Noemi Esquival of J. Joining the ranks of my Handmade Find and Paper Pick is new column Southern Spotting! I know you’re all looking for that perfect Southern detail to add an extra dose of sweetness or sass to your big day, and here’s where I’ll share sussies that catch my eye: perfectly Southern cakes, dresses, accessories, decor details, venues… the list goes on, but each entry will be just a quick glimpse at a delightful detail.

Today’s beauty is from photographer Steve DePino.

College sweethearts or united by love for a certain team? Instead of the cute but sometimes cheesy “Mr.” and “Mrs.” chair signs, string a vintage felt banner between you at the reception. Perfect for sports-crazed Southerners, even if this inspiration is from up North. Find a similar banner at your school’s bookstore or at the College Flags & Banners Company.

Like the look of this wedding? Visit Steve’s blog to see more, including a gorgeous bride, cheeky skull and crossbones ties and bow ties, chic neutral bridesmaid dresses, and a stationery suite by SW fave Cheree Berry.
