Southern Weddings

Monthly Archives: November 2016

Even if you’re getting married just down the road from your apartment, chances are your wedding will be a destination for at least a few of your guests. And if you’re getting married in the South, almost any location will feel like an idyllic place to visit! :) Whether near or far, play up all things local with a welcome gift for your guests–either themed around the state in which you’re saying “I do’ or the states from which you hail. We jump started your imagination in Southern Weddings V9 with luxe boxes from four Southern states, but know this is just a starting point.

P.S. If you have a large guest list, don’t be intimidated by the grandeur of these boxes–feel free to reserve the full complement for VIP guests (your families and bridal party), and then wrap up just an item or two for everyone else!

Introduce your guests to the Commonwealth in classic style. For this box, Marigold & Grey included mini bottles of Pellegrino; a booklet with information about the wedding weekend by Poppy & Scooter; Virginia pears; roasted Virginia peanuts; trail mix in a muslin bag; and a sugar cookie in the shape of Virginia’s state flower, the dogwood, by Two Sugars.

The Bluegrass State is represented in racing form with this box from Memento & Muse, including mini bottles of Perrier, caramel corn, state-shaped sugar cookies by Oak City Cookies, a sweet note from the couple in a horseshoe frame with calligraphy by Quietude Co., Molly & Me bourbon pecans, and all the ingredients for a single-serve mint julep.

Teak & Twine captured the artisan cowboy vibe of Nashville today with this monochromatic welcome box, tied off with custom leather disks from Warfield Supply. Tucked inside are an Olive & Sinclair chocolate bar, a Moscow Mule carryon cocktail kit, Willa’s shortbread cookies, and two monogrammed copper mugs from Mark & Graham.

A Signature Welcome capitalized on the talented companies based in Raleigh to welcome guests to the Old North State. Included in one of ASW’s custom boxes is a bag of Counter Culture coffee, a Videri sea salt chocolate bar, Moravian cookies, a jar of Outer Banks sea salt, Five Points Baking Co. cheese straws, a can of Legendary Sunshine Beverage, a watercolor itinerary by One & Only Paper, and a custom Revelry + Remedy kit created by the ASW team.

The Greenbrier is one of those places that has always seemed so enchanting to me, so we jumped at the chance to hit the road to West Virginia and create an editorial there for Southern Weddings V9! From the colors and patterns, to the architecture, to the history, to the traditions wrapped up in this incredible property, there was an abundance of inspiration to pull from, and we had a blast meeting up with one of our favorite vendor teams (including Jaclyn Journey, Whitney Neal, and Carley Randall, who all made the trip from Kentucky) to bring this bold and colorful, but refined, shoot to life. Our story was inspired by the many real families who create sweet traditions at the Greenbrier–in this case, a girl whose grandmother takes her there for tea every year on her birthday. When it came time for her wedding, she couldn’t imagine a more meaningful or celebratory place to gather loved ones for a ceremony and reception…and afternoon tea, of course!

We’re so grateful to the fantastic weddings team at The Greenbrier for hosting us so graciously, and to the phenomenal team who helped us bring our Dorothy Draper-esque vision to life!

We were incredibly lucky to work with Momental Designs for this paper suite. Kristy had visited the Greenbrier before, and knew exactly how to translate their incredible patterns and plaster work into paper. She truly knocked it out of the park!

One of my favorite small details from this shoot: our sweet bride’s stylish little teal bow! And of course, that coral charm peony bouquet by Jaclyn Journey gets ALL the heart eyes.

Our bride and groom from this shoot are married in real life! It was so fun to meet West Virginia couple Astleigh and Pete and work with them on this project.

The Greenbrier is famous for its afternoon tea service (complete with a rendition of the Greenbrier Waltz!), so for this editorial, we opted to replace cocktail hour with afternoon tea! Our bride’s own 93-year-old grandmom joined us for these photos, and she was completely precious!! Pick up your copy of the magazine for more of the backstory here!

Any Bachelorette fans in the house? Emily Maynard made the Greenbrier love clock tradition famous, and we had fun indulging in it with our bride and groom, too!

Josh from McComas Video Productions put together the most wonderful behind-the-scenes film from our day at the Greenbrier – it really showcases the iconic property and all that went into this shoot!

Pick up your copy of the magazine in our shop or on newsstands around the South right now!

There is something very “all hail the Queen” about this wedding that also screams a Palm Springs beach vacation as well. It’s the perfect conversation between pure elegance and playfulness. I love it!

In the Southern Weddings office, we all have different approaches to the holidays.

Emily prefers to give Thanksgiving its due, not decking the halls for Christmas a day sooner than Black Friday. Lisa prefers to get all of her holiday shopping done in November, so she can focus on spending time with loved ones in December. I prefer to celebrate the holidays as soon as possible—they only come once a year, and don’t last that long!

No matter how we approach our yuletide celebrations, we all agree on two things:

1. We love a good deal, but Black Friday sales are much too stressful for us, and we’d prefer to spend that day with our families.
2. When it comes to gift giving, the more meaningful, useful, and beautiful, the better.

I’m guessing y’all would agree on those two points, too! This year, we’re taking them to heart and running our annual holiday sale for an entire WEEK! Today through Monday, November 28, you can take up to 50% off select products in the Southern Weddings Shop.

We even went ahead and combined our most popular items into one AMAZING gift bundle! The bundle is the ultimate gift for any Southern bride, and includes the Southern Weddings Planner, the new Welcome Home Guestbook in natural linen, a Marriage Certificate in gold foil, Southern Weddings Volume 9, The Wedding Day Journal, and a Vows Booklet Set in blue. The whole bundle is valued at over $150, but is on sale for $99 for this week only! Find the Ultimate Southern Bride Bundle here.

Whether you’re searching for a sweet gift for your bridesmaids, the bride in your life, or your favorite newlywed couple, you can find prints, journals, and even our Project Life collection up to 50% off for the next week.

Head to the Southern Weddings Shop to explore all of the deals. No coupon code needed, and no Black Friday rush required :)
