Monthly Archives: June 2011

The day has come! Southern Weddings V3, our third issue, which debuted in October 2010, is officially sold out!! For eight months we shipped copies to 45+ states and 30+ countries around the world, and now we’re left with a box or two in our office closet for posterity. Hey, we warned y’all! Thank you SO MUCH for the generous, overwhelming support — you guys made this happen, which gets nothing short of a yippee-kay-yai-yay from us! Thank you, dear readers!

Our second issue, V2, is still available, which should help tide you over until V4 comes out in September. Purchase here!

For those of you who were not able to get a copy in time, you can still get some V3 goodness! Over the next few weeks we’ll be posting our favorite spreads on the blog for some good ol’ reminiscing.

Remember, you can also always head on over to our beautiful editorial galleries which are filled to the brim with beauties from V3. And my, they are beauties!

MOST exciting, though? With V3 completely out the door, we’re focusing even harder on our next issue, Southern Weddings V4. It’s dropping in September, and we. are. SO EXCITED!! Believe me, y’all will want IN on this action. This issue is truly going to be bigger and better than ever!

So how can you get involved? There are a few ways. Print real weddings submissions are due July 15 (we’ve already got 7 weddings from around the Southeast, and are looking for 5-7 more!). See the full details here on how and what to submit, then email Emily.

Most importantly, you’ll want in on a gorgeous ad in this next glossy! Email Whitney for a copy of our media kit. The ad deadline is also July 15, so get in touch quick to reserve your spot! We guarantee you’ll be glad you did.

We cannot WAIT to share the best moments of V3 with you as we get ready for V4’s release. There will be another behind-the-scenes shoot post in two weeks, and we’ll open preorders for V4 in August, so get excited!!

Did I tell you how much I love the blue in this Virgil Bunao wedding? Emily + Brian dressed up Legare Waring House’s already beautiful lawn with flowing linens, floral patterned table runners and string lights. The cocktail tables interspersed throughout the dinner tables carries over the bold shade of blue we love while the cake, courtesy of The Cake Stand, seamlessly mirrored the wedding decor. I’m so happy to see that the couple included a game of corn hole at their wedding, complete with their monogram — because if that isn’t Southern, I don’t know what is!

See all the photos from Emily + Brian’s wedding in their Real Wedding Gallery!

Describe your wedding cake: It was seamlessly intertwined into our wedding décor and decorated with white, cobalt blue and powder blue. It was delicious chocolate, key lime, and carrot cake.
What is the one thing you are most happy you splurged on? Our photographer! Virgil Bunao Fine Arts wedding photography captured every special moment and emotion that I will be able to reflect back on for a lifetime.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? The feeling of having all of our friends and family in the same place sharing in our celebration. The amount of love present in one place was incredible.
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? We are extremely excited to start our life together. We look forward to many adventures to come and to taking on the world together.

Who made the cornhole boards? LOVE them! :)

Working on getting you a source, Lindsey! We’ll update as soon as we know. But in the meantime, aren’t they amazing?!

    • avatar Emily @ Southern Weddings reply

Hi Lindsey! Thank you so much for your patience! I finally have an answer, though it’s probably not the one you want — they were made by the bride and groom! Darn those crafty couples :)

Thus far, I have had 2 brides this year use cornhole for entertainment for their guests – 1 had a Miami Dolphins set and the other had a combo of UGA & UF colors. HOWEVER, I looooove this personalized monogram! woo! Doesn’t get much more southern than that, I will certainly suggest that to my next couple.

Id also like to add that those table runners are exquisite! just love em!

We’ve been seeing a lot of all-white bouquets on the blog lately, and Emily + Brian’s florals help prove why we love seeing them again! The clean and sophisticated blooms by Jade Water Designs tied all the elements of their ceremony together perfectly–all the way from the men’s boutonnieres (dapper, indeed!) to the tall vases at the altar. I can’t stop staring at the bridesmaids’ cobalt blue dresses from Jasmine Bridal. They stand out magnificently against the green landscape at Legare Waring House in Charleston and flanking the beautiful bride, make her look radiant. We can’t wait to share Part II with you! A huge thanks to Virgil Bunao for sharing this wedding with us, and a huge hug to Stacey with Red Letter Events for designing such a beautiful celebration!

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. We are both graduates of Virginia Tech, but did not have the pleasure of knowing each other as Hokies. In 2009, life’s events had both led us to Charlotte, North Carolina. I was working at a local hospital, completing my clinical work prior to graduating medical school in the spring, and Brian was working for a technical recruiting company in the city. Mutual friends from Virginia Tech had invited us to play on an intramural flag football team in February. Beers and touchdowns made flirting a breeze, and here we are! We are now living in beautiful Charleston, SC where I am completing her medical residency as a family physician.
Describe the proposal. It was Easter 2010. We had planned to go to church in historic downtown Charleston. Brian seemed preoccupied during the entire service. After church, he asked if I wanted to walk to the Battery and look at all the beautiful blooming azaleas. As we approached the water on the Battery, he produced a beautiful ring from his pocket and I said “yes”.
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Comfortable, Southern, exciting.
Describe your wedding flowers: Romantic, clean, and all white.
