Weekly Round-Up

Hey there, ladies (and gents!), happy Friday! It’s Derby week here in the South and we couldn’t be happier to celebrate it! For the past few days, we’ve rounded-up the best of our favorite Derby-inspired things, from mint juleps to roses. A brief rundown:

Emily dreamed up one traditional Derby inspiration board, and one more whimsical. The whimsical board seemed to be the favorite with y’all :)

We shared ways to incorporate mint juleps and red roses into your weddings and parties.

Marissa found some truly Derby-worthy hats.

And we were invited to a Derby brunch.

Lastly, we offered up two awesome prizes: 100 save the dates from Spark Letterpress, and five fabulously-Southern monogrammed hats from Marley Lilly! Head to the original posts (here + here) to enter!

Now for some fun announcements:

Kathryn Murray has good news! If you don’t remember, Kathryn did the calligraphy for our print edition. Now, she is announcing a completely redesigned site and a summer special. Now through Labor Day, she is offering reduced prices on her two most popular calligraphy items. Check out her site for more details.

Kristy Rice of Momental Designs is celebrating the launch of her new collection this week! I have to say, y’all, it looks amazing! From impressionist-inspired to modern watercolors, the new collection is varied and beautiful. Head over to Momental Design’s website to look through everything!

All you Southern-lovin’ photographers out there will enjoy this: Kellan Studios, The Beautiful Mess and Jodi Miller Photography are hosting Venn Workshops and “The Southern Experience.” “The Southern Experience” workshop is a one and a half day immersion in the “best” of the South. It is unlike any other workshop, focusing not only on the unique aspects of the Southern Experience but also some of the challenges and obstacles of shooting in this area of the country. Info and registration are found at the Venn Workshops site. Sounds pretty neat to us!

One last photo, this one by Drew B, to begin your weekend with! Look at her fab hat! Very Derby-esque.

Have a lovely weekend, y’all! Anyone having a Kentucky Derby party?

I am hosting a derby themed mother-daughter brunch, Saturday afternoon, in Lexington KY. This brunch will showcase cheese grits, mini Ky hot browns, and of course mint juleps. The decorations include gold spray-painted horse shoes, peonies, roses, and more.

Hi friends! We’re wrapping up another great week at Southern Weddings, full of some great weddings and exciting announcements. Antsy for more details? Read on.

We featured some lovely real weddings this week:

Laurie Anne + Taylor had a sweet reception backed by a sweeter love story. See the wedding here and here.

Our very own Katharine got married! Check out her beautiful black and white wedding here, here and here. If you’re new to the blog, you can also check out all the posts Katharine and Emily co-authored as the wedding was planned here.

And we made some big announcements:

Though we searched and searched for a new Ad Director, we realized we needn’t have searched much at all! We are very excited to introduce Whitney as our new Ad Director! Whitney has been with Southern Weddings for two years and has moved from intern to editorial assistant and now to ad director. Head to the post to leave her some love!

Times are a-changin’ on the blog. Though we’re excited for Whitney’s new position, we’re very sad to see Katharine go. We bid our lovely managing editor farewell today since she’s off to law school. Take a trip down memory lane with us.

Now for a few bits of randomness.

First, a fun picture to share with you! Last week, all the SW ladies and their respective beaus went to dinner to celebrate all of the wonderful changes.

From left to right: (top row) Lara’s husband Ari, Katharine’s husband Kyle, Katharine, Whitney, Whitney’s boyfriend Scott, Nicole, Emily’s boyfriend John (bottom row) Sierra, Emily N., Marissa, Lara, Emily

Because every post is better with shoes, Jimmy Choo announced their 2011 Bridal Collection! If you’re searching for the perfect pair or just a huge fan of shoes, check out their website to explore the collection.

Lastly, we just wanted to say that our hearts go out to our belles and beaus across the South who’ve been affected by this week’s violent tornadoes. Readers, if you’re moved to donate, the Red Cross is taking a collection.

Have a great weekend y’all!

Happy Friday, my dears! At the end of a busy week, it always makes me feel better to look back on everything we’ve posted. Beautiful images and Saturday on the horizon is a guaranteed mood-booster. If you’re a fan of great photography and Saturdays, too, then I think we’ll get along splendidly!

This week, Emily has us craving sunny beaches and salty breezes with her Southern Spotting. A modern beach ceremony with bits of Southern details caught her eye. We have to say, we love the eye candy from Key West, too!

Marissa has got you covered from morning until night (and a few days before that too!) with Southern style tips for your wedding week. Whether you’re running some last minute errands and having lunch with your bridesmaids or preparing to walk down the aisle, we have some style suggestions you’re sure to love! Head to the posts here and here to check everything out.

Whitney brings us a perfectly Southern giveaway this week. Born and bred under the Mason-Dixon line, High Cotton Ties features our favorite of Southern fabrics. Whether you’re going monogrammed, seersucker, gingham or madras, they’re sure to meet your expectations! You could win a monogrammed cummerbund set if you head over to the original post and leave a comment!

Tara + Steve’s Charleston wedding gave us a breath of fresh air. Their coral and pink wedding was perfectly sweet and Southern. See it here and here.

Now for some announcements:

Forever Photography is giving away a free photo session! Become a fan of them on Facebook, have your friends vote for you, and you could win! The contest ends on May 9, so gather up your family and friends for the chance to win! Read more details on their blog.

Serendipity Bridal in Austin, Texas is having a sample sale! Gowns from Monique Lhuillier Bliss, Lazaro, Amsale, Marisa, Paloma Blanca, Watters, and WTOO are marked down. Check out their blog for more details.
