It’s hard for any of us at Southern Weddings to answer the question of what exactly we love so much about the South, namely because there is so much of it to love. We love our deeply-held traditions. The focus on family and creating a legacy over anything else. Our historic cities, our rolling hills, our beautiful beaches, our Spanish moss-covered trees. We love the books and movies that our mommas introduced us to, the recipes that are handed down to us through generations, and the strong-as-oak marriages that we get to learn from. In our new column Life and Love in the South, we’ll be sharing snippets of these things–culture, places, people, epic love stories–that inspire us daily and make us thank our lucky stars for this place we call home. We hope they transport you back home, too!

Meg + Jeremy by Melissa Schollaert

“And if in some distant place in the future we see each other in our new lives, I’ll smile at you with joy and remember how we spent the summer beneath the trees, learning from each other and growing in love. The best love is the kind that awakens the soul and makes us reach for more, that plants a fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds, and that’s what you’ve given me. That’s what I hope to give to you, forever.”
